652 Tasting Notes

A sample sent my way from QueenofTarts, I see here that it’s been discontinued.

That doesn’t make me too sad, especially after North Winds and Golden Orchid (!!!) have wormed their way into my heart (and my belly)…. While I do get a faint hint of chocolate from this, it is bitter rather than creamy. And the oolong is earthy. I don’t love these dark oolongs, I think I’m learning that.

I followed the steeping parameters of 5 min @ boiling.
I took a sip when it was really hot to test it out, wanting to know if I should add milk or not.
I was taking it downstairs to watch a movie, see, and I knew I wouldn’t want to come back up to add milk.

It brewed up BLACK, so I decided to add cream.

It was a comforting cup but not nearly malty or chocolatey enough for me, I know there are more special WP teas out there, so if one like this had to go to make room for, say, golden orchid, then I totally support that decision :)

Whispering Pines Tea Company

Haha this is almost 2 years old! :P

ohfancythat

I was wondering about the age, thought it weird that no one had reviewed it in two years!

My friend gave me a few of these sachets, so I tossed them in the fridge in some water to cold brew overnight.

The result was a very red, very fruity (definitely some hibiscus), decent iced tea.

Not bad, considering it’s Lipton!

(Sorry everyone, I’d accidentally logged this under Davidstea instead of Tea Desire)

Meh
I’m just logging this so that I remember drinking it

Nothing is really standing out while it’s hot. Just another flavoured black tea.

Thanks to MissB for sending some along!

I think I’m definitely moving in the opposite direction of a lot of these teas.

Sample from MissB, actually faintly reminiscent of an Oreo!
A watered down Oreo, obviously.

I added some cream to give it that creamy filling note.

Pretty good!

Thanks for sending some along :)

I think I like flavoured oolongs but not this kind of basementy tasting oolong.

I don’t know how else to describe that taste, like an old cardboard box that’s been sitting in a dirty, musty basement for awhile.

Not the kind of tea for me!

Honestly I didn’t get any flavour out of this one. Didn’t really taste like anything. I’m trying to get through a lot of teas right now so I actually ended up dumping it, no sense drinking tea that tastes like nothing!

Though I appreciate getting to try it :)
I think I’m more a fan of MF’s black and gourmand teas.

Ysaurella

I didn’t like this one neither. MF proposes a lot of nice green teas even if I am not very green but this one is really meh.

I enjoyed this one when I first got it ages ago, when I first started drinking loose leaf, but it was never a dynamic blend even when it did have flavour.

Mixed the rest of this with some of the old Davidstea version (pre lemongrass), to top it up, and cold brewed it.

I left it two days because I didn’t feel like drinking cold tea yesterday.
It was understandably bitter, I left it too long without straining it. But it was amazing coconutty and creamy so I will definitely do it again and just remove it sooner.

Aw crap. I guess I lied when I said the last note was my last note.
I forgot I drank the rest of this sample from Courtney earlier tonight while my hubby and I were watching the making of Diagon Alley special to ramp up our excitement for our trip to Florida in the fall.

I was also working on a banner for my mom’s surprise birthday/retirement party this weekend.

That is to say, I was majorly distracted as I drank this.

I addd milk. It was a comforting cup. But not nearly as mapley as I’d like a maple tea to be.
Probably if you would just give me pure maple syrup to drink, that would maybe be mapley enough.

I’m a tough Canadian to please!

Thanks for sending this for me to try, Courtney, I can cross it off my list now! :)

Sorry for the spam of reviews.
I drank a lot of tea this weekend but weekends are bad for logging, too much going on.

I saved the best for last though!

This was my Saturday morning tea. I got up and knew that we had plans to go see a movie at 2, so I figured I had plenty of time to properly enjoy this tea.

There are two types of tea for me, the ones that are special and deserving of my time and attention, and possibly multiple resteeps…and the ones that I pretty much guzzle all day long. I can go through a cup really quick once it’s cooled down to an acceptable level.

Anyway, Golden Orchid falls into the first category. I haven’t been drinking these delicious favorites lately because I’ve been trying to sipdown my silly amount of samples.

SO – knowing that I had lots of time to properly devote to it, I made a cup of Golden Orchid. I even bought a jug of spring water just to use for my “special teas”. So I used it.

I’m sniffing the bag, just taking my time. Then inhaling my delicious tea, waiting for it to cool off so I wouldn’t burn my mouth (done that before, too often)….

Then my husband was all like “let’s go out for breakfast at Homestead (local place) before the movie! How fast can you get ready? We will have to leave in an hour tops”

Which doesn’t sound too bad, but it meant I had to chug my tea down while I got the baby ready to go and got myself ready.

Hardly the experience I had been hoping for.

Though, it was still delicious.

It’s almost good that I’ve been drinking an abundance of mediocre samples lately, makes me really appreciate teas like this!

Mmmmm I just ordered this one after trying a sample and I can’t wait to taste it again. :D

This is a total special occasion tea for me too even though I want to drink it constantly! SO GOOD

To all Golden Orchid lovers, I strongly suggest trying this:

Note that I did not have elderberries handy, so I used frozen blueberries and it tasted awesome!! Can’t wait to get some elderberries though and try it the right way :-)

Marzipan

Are elderberries a Canadian thing? I have never seen them for sale here in the US in my life.

Samples sipdown!

I really like this tea. I just finished drinking it. It’s 11:50pm here….I think I need to order from Herbal infusions once I get my cupboard down to a manageable size….I need some caffeine free options for these nighttime tea cravings

Thanks again for sending the sample, Courtney :)

Courtney

This one and Cacao are my go-to caffeine free options. The scent of this one is nearly intoxicating. I’m glad you enjoyed it!

Hello!

I love tea. I love my mini-me daughter, my husband, my dog Wally, Netflix, shopping, and tea. Some other stuff too, but these are the most important!

Some favourites -

My new favourite tea company is A Quarter to Tea. I love the flavouring used and how it doesn’t seem fake, and the combinations are so delicious. Right up my alley.

My favourite teas are black, I love Laoshan Black and Taiwanese Wild Mountain Black tea from TTC. Also many of Teavivre’s black teas.

Butiki teas RIP, I loved how the flavours were subtle and not fake tasting and didn’t overwhelm the tea base. Trust that I am dramatically mourning the loss of this company!

Teavivre, Whispering Pines and Mariage Freres are some more tea companies I appreciate. Along with Davidstea as it was the ‘gateway drug’ to my tea addiction. Though I’m mostly over it now, I’ve definitely moved on from the artificially flavoured teas and am trying more quality straight teas!

My ultimate goal is to try as many French teas as possible – and to finally find a source in Canada for Mariage Freres so I can buy Wedding Imperial, and Black Orchid for sure.

I would like to try any Taiwanese Assams that exist in the world!

Also continuously on the hunt for Fauchon – La Naissance. If anyone has some of this I would pay for it!!! It’s my number one all time favourite tea.

When I rate, it goes like this:

85 -100 = WIN! awesome, I love this and keep it on hand
70 – 85 = pretty darn good but I don’t NEED to own it
55 – 70 = not necessarily terrible but not a tea for me!
30 – 55 = missed the mark as far as I am concerned. Wouldn’t drink it willingly.
0 – 30 = I likely won’t rate this low very often, so if you see it, consider the tea a great big FAIL and probably disgusting.
