this is probably the most unremarkable puerh I’ve ever had. I’ve tried it a dozen of times by now each time deciding to store it somewhere that I’d never stumble upon it again. the taste is just that bland… probably this time I will actually do it

Very smooth lapsang with a pleasant aftertaste that stays for a long time

I agree! Good to see you, Zeks, I thought of you the other day when I was drinking from. My tiny double walled glass cups. Not a pleasant memory for you, I know…

Zeks

haha, lol, I am way past that thankfully :)

Not exactly my cup. The taste is way too aggressive and though I kinda like it, it is a very bad idea to drink it while eating or as a complement to anything else… (like thinking, lol). The taste overpowers everything. It’s certainly an interesting experience but not the one you’d like to repeat too often. (i.e. brewing multiple times is definitely possible but by the time you finish first cup you are a week away from wanting to try it again)

Adding 1/3rd of sencha really helps balance the unnecessary sweetness of this batch

Whaaaaa!?

Zeks

What’s so strange?:) It’s too sweet and not enough astringent as it is, sencha fits perfectly to fix it :) Also, I couldn’t answer your earleir comments because for some reason steepster thinks I have negative amount of comments on that note XD

Bonnie

I’ve never mixed sencha and black tea.Sorry if it seems perfectly normal to you, but to me it sounds like adding instant coffee to an oolong. Could you have used less leaf possibly (a less sweet longer steep) and retained the flavor of the Yu Lu Yan Cha? Since this is one of my favorite tea’s, I may be overstating my reaction to your blending. No offence intended to you.

Zeks

Nope, less leaves doesn’t help with taht particular batch. I was in love with the original but this one is just barely tolerable without adding something to fix the balance of sweetness and afetrtaste

Zeks

And japanese sencha really helps in that particular case btw :)

The latest(as in – sold 2 months before this note) batch of Yu Lu Yan is considerably different in taste to the original and, imho, much much worse.

The balance of sweetness and astringency is way off. It feels too sweet and there’s this aftertaste which was ok in the previous batch but here its too strong.

A Shu with extremely thick and rich earthy taste. Brewing in gaiwan as per instructions and so far I absolutely love it.
