Major reading comprehension fail caused me to miss my flight back home from Toronto (seriously, I can’t even count how many times I looked at my itinerary and read 8:10 as 8:30.) So I’ve been up since 5:30am for pretty much no reason at all. I’m running on about four hours of sleep and I have more than an hour to wait for my rebooked flight. And here I am, sitting in Pearson, sipping a take out cup from DAVIDs.

I knew I was wanting a straight tea this morning and I figured that I should give this one a try. And I’m quite impressed.

The nose is very fruity. The liquor a warm, reddish brown and very clear. On the palate, there are lovely notes of sweet, fermented grapes and something that might be chestnuts. No bitterness, but a drying sensation that builds quite intensely toward the bottom of the cup. A hint of vegetal on the finish, giving it a bit of a tangy quality. This reminds me a lot of a Darjeeling black actually.

This is a pretty delicious and unique green tea. A very short steep is probably called for. I can’t imagine steeping this for the recommended 3-4 min.

Edit: Second steep was even better – some malt in addition to the previous flavours, and very smooth. almost no astringency.

Flavors: Astringent, Chestnut, Sweet, White Grapes, White Wine

Oh no! At least Pearsons has a Davids. Hope you can get home soon!

Yikes, not cool! I’ve almost missed flights due to unexpected gate changes, but never actually failed to make it, thankfully. Also, lucky you’re in the terminal with the DT – the Westjet terminal (3) is the most boring ever to have to wait in.

Made it home! I’ve had bad luck with missing flights with trips to Toronto. Years back we missed one and we were on a tiny airline that didn’t have another flight for three days! Also we were both near broke and didn’t have a cell phone, laptop or contact info for anyone in Toronto. We got incredibly lucky and a friend happened to just walk by while we were sitting in the airport and gave us a place to crash till the next flight.

Last year I missed my flight going to Toronto, because the airport had changed the cut off time for checking in, which wasn’t announced anywhere. I was so stressed out I very nearly just went home, which would have been bad, since I was meeting friends there, and presenting at a conference.

I thought I was doing really great today, but alas, no.

Glad you made it home! Is it snowing in Winnipeg? It has been snowing all day here. :(

It’s bright and sunny today but we have snow on the ground that’s going to stick around. -12C and windy today, so walking outdoors was no fun.

Seriously, every single winter I ask myself why I live here.

Lindsay

Ugh, me too! At least this time around I have lots of tea… :)

Bio

I grew up drinking jasmine green tea with meals, but really fell in love with tea on a trip to Britain in elementary school. My first great love was Earl Grey, and I still adore it and all its variants.

I discovered the beauty of loose leaf tea much later, when, on impulse, I picked up a few teas that were on clearance at a home store. My introduction to loose leaf teas were Masala Chai and Provence Rooibos by the Metropolitan Tea Co and an unknown brand of kukicha and gyokuro (little did I know what a precious treasure I’d stumbled onto with that.)

At the time I was lucky to live in a place with multiple tea shops and several places to have afternoon tea, which is a delight I still miss.

Tea is part of my daily ritual and a nice, affordable way to appease the collector in me.

I enjoy distinctive whites, greens and oolongs, flavoured blacks, and herbals that are heavy on the citrus, lavender or mint.

Rating rubric, to give myself some consistency:
0-15 Yuck, not even drinkable.
16-30 Disappointing, not really inclined to give it a second try.
31-45 Disappointing, but maybe there’s potential? Worth one more try, prepped differently.
46-60 Mediocre, not terrible but not memorable.
61-75 Not bad. I’ll definitely finish what I have and might buy again.
76-90 Very enjoyable. Tasty, complex, it’ll keep me coming back.
91-100 BEST! I love everything about it and I will drink it forever.

Beyond tea, I’m a sex educator, polyamory activist, and radical queer. I love backwoods camping, abstract painting, baking & cooking, nail polish, cats, ceramic sculpture, and home nesting.
