Decided to make real strawberry matcha limeade putting all the sugar (I used stevia) it calls for. Yes… 3 packets- which would be equal to 6 teaspoons or 2 TABLESPOONS! of sugar in a small 6oz serving (w/ 1tsp matcha)!!! Aside from the overwhelming sweetness, this is actually a pretty good matcha lemonade… but… it’s not really a strawberry matcha limeade… the sweetness is so obnoxious that the matcha is like “Oh… yeah… um… this was supposed to be a strawberry matcha limeade, wasn’t it? Oops, I forgot… sorry…” Next time I want a fruit matcha lime/lemonade I think I’ll make a blended version and use unsweetened frozen fruit instead of ice and CUT DOWN ON THE SUGAR! lol or just wait for a strawberry/lemon, strawberry/lime, raspberry/lemon, or raspberry/lime (<- that would be my fave option Frank) matcha. :)

Decided to change up chrine’s suggestion a bit and go w/ strawberry matcha limeade since I generally prefer limeade over lemonade. Another difference is this is homemade- not Crystal Light. 2tsp matcha, 12oz water, 4TB lime juice, and 1 packet stevia… HOLY CRAP! I just noticed that I’m supposed to use the equivelent of 4TB of sugar for this amound of limeade! That would be 6 packets of stevia!!! OUCH! My teeth hurt just thinking about it. How can anyone that drinks lemon or limeade made w/ real sugar still have any teeth? lol ok, sorry… back to my drink. The strawberry isn’t quite as strong as it was in the overly sugary Crystal Light Lemonade version, but it definitely works. I… gulp… may try it w/ limeade made as directed tomorrow…

I had an egg roll and rice Lean Cuisine so I went for the most obvious beverage- Koicha! 1tsp sifted and 40ml hot water added and then whisked. I need to have this at a Chado Ceremony though, it’s always just a bit chalky when I make it.

Had this, neat, with a brownie (plain, no matcha sugar topping). This is a new pouch and I’m noticing a few more almonds in this one than normal- unfortunately not as much as the MC Pu Erh. What the dry leaf didn’t tell me was there’s also a LOT more cayenne in this one. WHOA! Almost too much, even for me! I’m so glad I had the brownie w/ it. It’s 10:40 here and I have a feeling I won’t be falling asleep any time soon- but it won’t be due to the caffeine in the Assam. It’ll be cuz of the cayenne- wow, it actually made me kinda hyper…

Well Chrine swears the strawberry stands up to lemonade, so I’ll try it. 1tsp matcha in 1 cup lemonade (unfortunately crystal light, not real stuff made w/ stevia). Paired w/ pizza for dinner WOW. Pretty suprised, but it does. And would even more so if the sugar wasn’t so obnoxious. I still prefer matcha limeade though… I have enough to try that yet. I may have to! And inspite of the pizza not being all that great, they make a pretty darn good combo:)

Made black bean brownies: 1 package brownie mix + 1 14oz can unseasoned black beans blended, mixed well. No egg, oil, water, etc.

Topped with: Equal parts unsweetened cocoa, powdered sugar, plain white sugar, and matcha, sifted together. I’ve had this w/o the plain white sugar before and the texture gets a bit pastey in my mouth, so it’s a must. I just wish it would have been vanilla bean sugar.

Hair of the dog, of sorts, after my dairy disaster. 2 containers of Strawberry Fiber One yogurt w/ 1/2 a teaspoon of matcha in each. Don’t worry, these are safe lol! I’m hoping more matcha, the active cultures, and the fiber (10g total!) help ward off anything that might be brewing in my digestive tract.

Jade Limeade! (which makes more sense then Jade Lemonade since Limeade is green) Unfortunately this is not happy occasion. Today, purely on accident, I have consumed both bad sour cream (expired in May) and shredded cheese (although unopened, expired in June)… I’m not feeling sick, but I don’t want to wait around til I do. Unfortunately the packets of stevia I have equal the sweetness of 2tsp of sugar so I have to make a 2x cuppa. 4TB lime juice, 1 packet stevia, 12oz water, and 2tsp matcha. Although I normally do not have sweetened lemon or limeade, this was really good. Not just good… BETTER than regular limeade! The matcha gives it a whole new mouthfeel and tones down the sweetness.

TeaEqualsBliss

“like” for the Matcha “dislike” the sour sour cream and cheese! LOL – seriously tho…I hope you don’t get sick! eeeeek! My fingers are crossed for you!

Janefan

I hope the awesome powers of lime juice and matcha will negate any badness you consumed. fingers crossed Matcha limeade sounds wonderful, I’m going to have to follow your lead soon, esp. since it’s going to get HOT again this weekend!

RachanaC (Rachel)-iHeartTeas

How is it that you got your hands on both sour sour cream and expired cheese?

Cofftea

Items getting forgotten/not used in my fridge and not watching expiration dates Rachel:)

RachanaC (Rachel)-iHeartTeas

LOL :-). Hope you don’t get sick I can imagine it wouldn’t be fun.

Cofftea

So far so good! So I can’t imagine getting sick now. I’m gonna have some hair of the dog, of sorts, later- 2 containers (totaling 1 cup) of fiber one yogurt plus another tsp of matcha so the cultures, fiber, and matcha should help even more.

Even though my scale is broken, I decided to make this anyway- mainly to prove the reason why I weigh whites. For my 1st infusion I made 18oz iced to take to dinner tonite. 1 heaping TB steeped in 6oz water for 3 min (when I use 2.25g/6oz I steep it for 1-1.5 min) @ 180 (again, when weighing I normally like 160) then added 12oz cold water.

2nd infusion, 1 min 20 sec usining only 6oz water. Paired w/ a pocky stick. The orangish liquor is so flavorful! Maybe it won’t be so bad after all. The honey and vanilla flavors are not as strong as my prefered way of preparing it, but the white tea is solid. It pairs pretty good w/ the pocky stick, but I wish the sweeter notes were stronger to compare w/ the bakeyness of the cookie. Bakeyness is an odd thing, it’s an ok (although not my fave) thing in the right cookie- but a quality I hate in tea. I’d probably give this method of prep a 70-75.

3rd infusion. I steeped the tea in just 3oz of water for 1 min 40 sec, decanted it in my chawan and added a tsp of their ceremonial matcha to make Koicha. My tea sifter was wet so I didn’t sift it, which it really needs, so unfortunately it was a touch chalking and bitter, but the honey vanilla white really lessoned it.

Day 2 of… um… mineral replacement lol. I filled my chawan w/ musk melon, sifted a tsp of matcha over it and stirred. Most of the matcha ended up w/ the juice at the bottom so I added 2oz hot water and whisked. Whoa! This has the best foam I’ve gotten yet! Ok, well it’s more like bubbles than real foam or froth. But it covers the entire surface of the matcha- I’ve never managed to get that before!:)

DaveWiesmann

Yep – A frothy matcha is a happy matcha

Are you a company or tea blender on sites like Adagio that would you like your tea reviewed? If so, please e-mail me @ [email protected].

What I most enjoy from obtaining samples from companies to review is that it helps me to better learn to drink and review teas from a more objective perspective, meaning more of the “This tea is…” point of view rather than the “I like/don’t like” this tea. I feel objectivism in tea reviews is EXTREMELY important because no two tea drinkers tastes are exactly the same. I’ve also been extremely surprised by several teas. I love recieving a sample I think I will be only writing an objective review on, only to completely fall in love with it upon tasting it.

Tea tastes:
I will ALWAYS pick loose leaf over tea bags. I only drink bagged tea if that’s my only choice or I find a flavor that I can’t find a loose leaf version for. When I do drink bagged; however, I always weigh my bag and am constantly curious as to the weight/flavor ratio- sometimes I am quite surprised by the flavor punch of light bags.

I have a preference for organic and fair trade teas (preferably both), but would never pass up an amzing tea just because it isn’t organic and/or fair trade.

I love savory teas.

I’m currently searching for a chai flavored soy powder or a soy based chai mix (either already mixed or a recipe).

I hardly EVER sweeten my teas. I feel that sweeteners (unless flavored like tea honeys, brown sugar, ice cream topping syrups, flavored coffee syrups, etc) do not add anything to the flavor profile of tea- in fact, I’ve found that they dumb down the flavors.

I NEVER serve my tea over regular iced cubes- I always make tea cubes.

I LOVE cooking w/ tea and making smoothTEAS.

I LOVE tea blending.

I rarely drink herbal teas unless they are mixed with true teas. My favorite herbals to mix with true teas are: spearmint, peppermint, lemongrass, rose hips, and gingeroot.

I can’t stand anything w/ fennel or anise. Hot black teas (except orange pekoe bagged tea that you get when you go out to eat and chai teas) tend to upset my stomach.

I drink matcha daily and love flavoring it. I’m also in a constant search of preflavored matchas.

I’m constantly searching for information on how to prepare tea authentically according to its country of origin.

My Tasting Notes Ratings (edited 8/8/10)
1: I can’t even stand the raw leaf enough to make this (I’ve never owned a tea w/ this rating, but I’ve smelled some before buying resulting in me NOT buying them that were that bad)

2: I steeped this tea but couldn’t stand the aroma enough to get it past my nose

3: I immediately gagged at the 1st sip and spit it out.

4: I manageed to get the 1st sip down, but I tossed the rest.

5: I drank the 1st cup but I can’t bring myself to resteep

6: Made it thru the entire set of infusions but I can’t bring myself to tinker w/ the parameters and won’t be making it again.

7-10: Does not taste anything like the ingredients or name suggests (i.e. Adagio’s Sour apple)

11-25: I can taste some of the ingredients, but the flavor is severely lacking

25-49: Teas that I would not consider bad in their flavor profile, but certainly below average

50: Average.

51-69: Teas above averge, but I wouldn’t go as far as calling them “good”.

70-75: Very good, but still room for improvement

76-85: Above average flavor profile

86-90: REALLY good flavors

91-99: Almost PERFECTLY achieves the goal of the ingredients and name of the tea.

100: Abosolutely perfect teas!
