Dammann Frères Advent Day 14 (14-February 2021)

We did a massive purge declutter yesterday and I drank this tea during, but honestly didn’t catch any in depth notes.

The tea was really good, very popcorn-like with a hint of sweetness. Very true to form, but I don’t know that I’m a huge popcorn tea fan. Nonetheless, another enjoyable cuppa from DF!

Decluttering is one of my favorite activities. So is acquiring more tea :P

Courtney

Hahah yes, same here!

I loved this one! Such a nice maple syrup flavor.

Dammann Frères Advent Day 15 (15-February 2021)

This tea smells delicious dry. Very fruity.

The flavour is really well done here. The passionfruit comes through clearly and is so delicious. The scent is almost intoxicating. It feels very tropical. There’s a hint of spiciness that doesn’t overtake at all and adds some depth here. I love that DF is all about the passionfruit!

Lexa is loving this one too, and we would definitely order this for our cupboard. This DF calendar has been great so far!

Preparation

This was surprised me so much, because I was expecting a coconut chai ha ha.

Courtney

I agree! But I love it so much more than I assume I would’ve enjoyed a coconut chai. :)

2021 sipdown no. 39

Sad sipdown! This tea is really delicious and I didn’t want to sip it down, but here we are! Also, it’s quite sad that this isn’t on the DF website and I’m not really sure if it’s just out of stock or forever gone.

The fruitiness here is so delightful – very red fruits, but also different than other French tea red fruits. There’s also the delicious DF pastry flavour that I really enjoy from them. This tea will be missed in my cupboard.

Preparation
190 °F / 87 °C 4 min, 30 sec 3 g 14 OZ / 414 ML

Dammann Frères Advent Day 13 (13-February 2021)

Another delicious tea from DF! I was always a little hesitant to order this one, but I will definitely add it into my next order.

The carrot comes through really nicely here, with an almost cream cheese flavour as well! I’m really impressed with this one. I love that the cinnamon is almost non-existent because it sadly ruined Carrot Cake from B&B for me.

Lexa loves this one too!

Preparation
190 °F / 87 °C 4 min, 0 sec 3 g 14 OZ / 414 ML

Did I send you the S&V version? I haven’t tried it yet, but based on their other desserty green rooibos blends, I’m expecting greatness.

Courtney

I don’t have a note on that one, so I guess not!

Cameron B.

Adding it to the list! XD

drank Mint Chaï by Dammann Frères

Dammann Frères Advent Day 12 (12-February 2021)

I think this tea works really well! The mint and chai spices are so strong on their own that together, they create a perfect balance. Not too minty, not too chai – just right.

I also enjoy that this is a herbal blend and Lex says she loves it. We both said we could have this in our cupboard. :) What a great start to a Friday!

drank Joyeux Noël by Lupicia

Wow, this is very bitter. I steeped it at 200 F, so there doesn’t seem to be astringency, but the bitterness – my word!

I don’t taste much else but a black base and bitter.

Nonetheless, grateful to have been able to try! Thanks Cameron!

Preparation
200 °F / 93 °C 2 min, 30 sec 3 tsp 14 OZ / 414 ML

Thanks to Cameron for sending this one along!

I was surprised to see a rose petal in this mix, but perhaps one won’t have too much of an effect…

The steeped scent is really lovely – like a freshly baked holiday baked good.

Hmm. The good news is that I don’t really get any floral from the rose petal. The base mixes well with the flavours, but it may be just a touch clove and anise-heavy and that covers some other flavours that may have had a chance to balance the blend. The tea overall seems quite thick and malty. It is reminiscent of a baked good with just a bit too much spice.

200 °F / 93 °C 4 min, 0 sec 3 tsp 14 OZ / 414 ML

Dammann Frères Advent Day 11 (11-February 2021)

The dry scent here is very banana — I hope that translates into the flavour!

The banana flavour does come through, but much more subtly. I’m quite enjoying this. The green base complements nicely.

Dammann Frères Advent Day 10 (10-February 2021)

This tea is delicious. The lemon is subtle and a but more in scent than taste, which has come out really nicely. There’s a creaminess that I think is the caramel coming through, but with the most subtle hints of sweetness which is also lovely. I’m almost half done this cup without realizing it — the true mark of a delicious cup of tea.

I’d order this one without a second thought!

Preparation
190 °F / 87 °C 4 min, 30 sec 3 tsp 14 OZ / 414 ML

I love this one too! Creamy lemon deliciousness…

Courtney

I now have more teas to order haha! The DF teas are adding up. :P

Cameron B.

Stupid 100g sizes… :(

Courtney

True…although I really do make my way through them. I was examining my cupboard and my oldest teas are the DF ones from November 2019. I didn’t think that was too bad, and most are getting close to done!

Leafhopper

Speaking as someone who still owns 2017 teas, I’d say you’re doing well! :)

2021 sipdown no. 38

This is my last August Uncommon tea from Cameron and sadly, these rooibos teas have not been good for me. At all.

The combination of ingredients here ends up tasting like a deli meat? I can’t really peg down which deli meat since I haven’t eaten meat in many years, and this was not a positive reminder of the taste haha!

Preparation
200 °F / 93 °C 5 min, 0 sec 3 g 14 OZ / 414 ML

Haha, wut!

Courtney

I know!

derk

Tonight I understand. I boiled some on the stove then simmered with milk. Kiki came home and said “What’s that smell? Did you make something with pepperoni?”

Courtney

Finally haha!

Bio

I love black tea and this is usually what’s in my mug. I’m also happy to enjoy a cup of green or red rooibos (green preferable to red), herbals, oolongs (unroasted/green and red preferable to roasted), whites, and subtly flavoured greens (mango or pineapple, yum!).

Likes:
Raspberry, strawberry, peach, rhubarb, passionfruit, blackcurrant, redcurrant, fig, and most fruits in general, maple, creaminess, hay, biscuit, lavender, and cacao/dark chocolate.

I enjoy bergamot when paired with flavours that mellow it (Camellia Sinensis Earl Grey Cream is one of my favourites).

Dislikes:
Any smokiness at all, stevia, too much blackberry leaf, rose, jasmine, ginger (except in chai), cinnamon-heavy teas, anything cloying or fake/candy-like.

I’m vegan with an allergy to potatoes, so I avoid any animal products in tea, along with sprinkles as these often have potato starch (I usually just pick them out of blends).
