1443 Tasting Notes
I am so close to a sipdown here, but I must find a way to get more. I love this tea, however infrequently I drink it. It’s just comforting in a delicious, bready way.
I ordered 3 oz. last time, but I think 2 oz. may be a safer bet this time around. It’s lost a wee bit of flavour because it takes me an age to drink.
Burn baby, burn. This is addicting amazing.
I’ve already added it to my Amazon cart. I couldn’t believe the whole package was for 6-8 oz. of water. I used 15oz. and it is strong. Delicious, yes, but strong. It was also awesome to just watch all the crystals dissolve instantly upon my pouring boiling water in. Thanks OMGsrsly!
I might have used like 1/4 of the package for 8 oz and the honey was too strong. I wanted more ginger!!
The honey was pretty strong but I got a lot of ginger too. It burned the back of my throat. In a good way haha. I used the whole package though, gah. It was intense.
Enjoying this tea as I settle in to study before my exam tomorrow. The creaminess will never get old. The black base is great, and of course the cream accentuates it wonderfully.
This morning was quite eventful. I have a psychology presentation and paper due the day I return from Jamaica, which meant I had to get my research done beforehand. The abundant time spent on planes will be perfect for preparing the actual paper and presentation. I decided to examine social influence in religion. And what better way to examine than to attend a meeting/service/mass? So that is what I did this morning. I may be a scientist, but that doesn’t stop me from having a curiosity about religion, and overall it was a fascinating experience.
I’m glad everything worked out so that you can go to Jamaica.
That’s really interesting. I had to do a paper on a religion in my first year of university and we had to attend a meeting/seminar. Was kind of cool. This reminds me of some research a linguist in southern Alberta is doing. She’s discovered a correlation between Mormonism and pronunciation, oddly. She thought the religion aspect would be boring at first, but despite being a scientist too, she also ended up liking the religion aspect. Go figure!
And best of luck on your exam tomorrow!
Everyone else was doing something in sales and social influence and it just seemed to me that religion has an incredible social influence so I chose that instead. I actually chose a specific religion, which I had to get okayed beforehand by my prof. and it was quite fascinating. I’ve never been a religious person, but it doesn’t hurt to learn how other people view the world.
And thanks!
I thought I had mixed Cheesecake with milk and popped it in the fridge, but it turned out it was Coconut. That was a lovely surprise. I actually added just a wee touch of sugar because I find it helps the coconut in cold milk.
Hopefully this will give me the kick I need to finish off the reading part of my studying for my exam on Monday. Tomorrow’s studying will be all writing and rewriting. The cat has been sleeping on the couch for about four hours and I just want to nap too.
Good luck on Monday!! I have a final on Wednesday and a midterm Thursday but I may be procrastinating by watching Dawson’s Creek. What a ridiculous show. I should be reading too but do not want!
Haha it’s so hard at this time of term. I have that exam Monday, then 3 presentations and the papers that go with them all that have to be done before I leave early Thursday. GAH.
Yes! And you will also survive hehe. My finals don’t start until April 14. They go from the first to the last day of the exam period. Of course. :P
I like how I have a final the day before a midterm. The course also has a paper though so I think the prof is being nice and helping us get something out of the way.
That is nice :) Yeah this exam Monday is a midterm. When courses fit in two midterms sometimes I have finals overlapping too.
I hear you. The midterm Thursday is my second in the course as well. My actual exam period doesn’t start until after the first two weeks in April and it goes until the very last day of the month, though for the first time in forever, I am finishing early (which is good because I need time to move out of my apartment).
Tea makes reading coursework more bearable… especially the getting up breaks to make the tea. ;-) Good luck to you and VariaTEA on exams!
This one is pretty awesome. There is a distinct, rich vanilla flavour, with a strong, but not overwhelming black base. I could happily drink plenty of this one. I bet it would be tasty chilled too.
Angrboda you were right about this one! Thanks for sharing. :)
Flavors: Vanilla
Preparation
The scent of coconut and banana wafting from this cup promises for something wonderful.
I kept pulling out this sample from keychange’s swap envelope and staring at it the last few days, because in my efficiency, I deleted our message and forgot what all she sent. This one was a mystery, and it has been bothering me since her envelope arrived. Today it finally hit me that it was this tea. This tea! The tea that everyone loved. So of course, I brewed it up immediately.
Both the banana and coconut are apparent, yet not overwhelming. AKA perfection. True to Butiki style. I’m also thrilled the back is PTA, rather than the original pu’erh planned. I’ll have to write a bit more later, because I had an incredibly garlicky dinner and I’m concocting ways to rid my mouth of the taste to further enjoy this tea. I clearly did not think through the timing for steeping. :P
Thanks keychange for sending me this one, and thanks to JustJames and Stacy for thinking and creating it.
Me too! I’m out a few of my favourite Butikis, but I’ve been patiently waiting for this one to be released before I place an order.
Oh, I’m not supposed to be ordering anything, but… I will really need to get more of this. I’m so happy JustJames and
the dynamic for this tea was so funny. we agreed, we disagreed, we agreed…. then stacy said ‘it needs a fruit’. i said ‘no’. ‘yes’, ‘no’, ‘yes, ’no’, ‘yes, ’banana, ’ew!….really…. no…. maybe?’
then she loved it. but i’m normally the ‘ew banana type,’ heh heh. has to be juuuuuust right. proof that it is? stacy and i both love this!
This is a sad sipdown this morning. This tea has grown more and more on me. I will definitely be picking up more. Now to work Seattle into the Vancouver trip.
I overslept this morning, which shouldn’t have happened, but sometimes I just don’t care.
Now I’m sitting down with my delicious oatmeal and maple syrup and this awesome tea. I leave in less than a week for Jamaica and I need to focus on all the things I have to get done for school because my concentration has not been up to snuff.
Thanks EvaGrimm for this delightful tea.
This one has a lot going on, but the Laoshan Black shines through. Thank goodness. When I saw pu’erh in the description I was concerned.
Those chocolate notes I love are clearly there, and the oolong is also apparent. Teas with an overabundance of ingredients sometimes overwhelm me, but this one melds so well together. Very tasty.
Thanks OMGsrsly!
I’ve taken to steeping my tea and covering it, before I hop in the shower in the morning. When I get out, it’s cooled to the perfect drinking temperature. This one is a sipdown this morning. It’s so tasty! I can’t wait to visit Steam Tea House when I go to Van come spring.
So, my shower was frigid this morning, so that was a joy… Especially when there’s snow blowing by the window outside. Now I’m drinking my hot, awesome tea, and eating hot, awesome oatmeal with maple syrup so that should make things better.
Thanks for sharing OMGsrsly!
This one came in from keychange. :)
I think I would be open to exploring more Darjeelings. This one is similar in that it steeped up lightly, to the Puttabong one I had a while back. Does that mean it’s a first flush? I’be had ones that steep up darker that I didn’t enjoy as much.
This one has a hay-like quality going on with some underlying flavours that are just out of my reach. There is a subtle hint of nuttiness, with a touch of astringency. Not an astringency I’m used to in most black teas I have though. Interesting, interesting. I’d be open to trying this one again. Or other Darjeelings. The more I sip away, the more I am growing to really enjoy this tea.
Thanks keychange!

No problem! If I get my hands on more darjes, I’ll send some your way to try. I generally like them, too.
Woot! I will have to keep an eye out now. The light steeping ones I’ve had I’ve enjoyed. All two of them haha. Very much enjoyed them. I will keep this one on my Butiki order list I think. When I’m close to a free shipping threshold it will be thrown in for sure. :)
i need to order more of this..but maybe i’ll keep holding off until July.
I will hold off too, for a bit. I want to route it through my friend in the US, but she may not be there much longer. Eep.
I need to order more of this, too. Unfortunately, I am not buying anymore tea until at least May. :(
Oh wow. That is a long time. I’m sure it will be worth it when Brioche is the reward. :)
yes, I love this tea but can see myself drinking it infrequently as well. Do you guys know if ATR is a real stor or only an online one?
Oh wow, I’m heading to CA this summer also! July 19-26, I think.
