523 Tasting Notes

I just ordered some of this tea, having remembered really liking it, but I don’t like it so much now. It is heavily spiced, with enough pepper to scare any cold away, I’m sure, but this isn’t how I remember it. I think, having had a swap sample, that what I tasted before resulted from not being fresh out of a new bag. This is one potent tea, and the ginger is stronger than I remember too. I could let the tea sit for a while, hoping to recreate what I enjoyed before, but I’m too annoyed that Teavana is so attached to artificial flavoring. I thought this one was free of it, but I was wrong. Why is it necessary? This tea has just about every spice known to man in it, why do they need to add artificial flavor too? frustrating.

I do make exceptions here and there for the rogue artificially flavored tea (or food) because there are a few flavors that really do come out better that way (key word few). Teavana is like artificial flavor paradise. . .sigh

Basic cup of bold black tea, suitable for breakfast time and milk (if your into that). Im having mine in the afternoon, milk-free. I just wish I had some tea cookies to go with it. . . ::in day-dreamy voice:: yummy cookies, I want a cookie. . .

No cookies for me. Only tea.

I kept an extra serving of this from the tea box to be sure of my opinion of it. This time around, I couldn’t stomach the fruity sweetness. It isn’t so strong several sips in, but I’d rather not have to “suffer” my first few sips of a tea. I have other preferred white teas anyway.

I don’t order very much from Della Terra. I’ve largely scratched them off as a generic-artificial-flavor dessert tea shop. I know I am in the minority, as always. My parents both have some favorite teas from DT and sometimes I order on their behalf.

Eight Candles was a tea that I really wanted to try from them when I first got into loose tea in late January. I had just missed the holidays and this tea was sold out. SInce then, I’ve largely discovered that dessert teas aren’t my thing (with the exception of Butiki) Caramel and chocolate in particular never come out good in a tea. But, remembering the excitement I had when I discovered that tea comes in more flavors and forms than “bagged green” (I felt like a hobbit learning that beer comes in Pints! lol) I decided to get this tea in honor of those memories.

It smells so unbelievably good. The best smelling of any DT tea. It’s like fluffy marshmallows and cake frosting. I was hoping so much it would taste the same, hoping so intently I thought that I could will it to happen. But, alas, my powers are not that strong (yet >;) ). The best I can say for the flavor is that it doesn’t offend me and there is absolutely no weird caramel aftertaste (a first!). But it’s still blah. But, that smell, like heaven. I might brew it again sometime anyway just for it. And put extra marshmallows in it like in a hot cocoa. :) I will make this tea work for me, I will.

Floral, nutty, creamy. . .my type of oolong!

oh man, when I said that to my self in my head, I thought of the recent toaster strudel commercials. Please do not read the above in the voice of the creepy little boy from those commercials! lol

Thanks for sharing this tea with me stephanie. i love it! :)

The dry leaf smells so pleasing like a vanilla cupcake. It’s a soft, natural vanilla aroma that carries into the brewed cup. The first couple of sips didn’t deliver anything but white tea. I wondered what happened to the vanilla and I wondered where the grapefruit was in the first place. But after the third sip, it all came together. The grapefruit was just late to the party I guess.

I really like this tea. Pleasant, balanced flavor; a good comforting cup for a quiet day. :)

Tea #12 from Another TTB

The mint is strong in this one. Hmm, I didn’t intend for that to come out sounding like a Star Wars reference, but now that it does… :D

I can’t detect the raspberry or chocolate, but it has that nasty aftertaste that some chocolate (and caramel too) blends have. Why doesn’t anyone else ever notice this?

I love mint, but it’s not enough to compensate for the icky aftertaste here.

Lol I read the first line with Yoda in mind too :)

Apples! that’s what I taste. Apple! I should have known. I read the ingredients of this tea before I asked moraiwe for it in a swap, but I had completely forgotten them by the time I brewed it this morning.

I smelled it and kept thinking it smells so familiar, what is that smell? It’s an extremely natural apple flavor. I hardly detect the cinnamon. I really should be able to recognize the smell of apple. . don’t know what was up with me then :)

Thanks for sharing this yummy tea with me moraiwe (^.^)

This is a very unique flavor. I don’t know what to make of it yet. It reminds me, sort of, of the smell of a musty used-to-be-a-smoking motel room. The kind that is clean and looks comfortable, but it still has that smell, you know? Strangely comforting if only because you are so tired and just grateful that you found a motel room before sunrise. Or maybe this only makes sense to me, having gone on so many family road trips, and my parents never making reservations.. . always an adventure :)

I can also see, unlike many teas with the same description, how this one can compare to a scotch.

I’m not rating this now because I am not sure how I feel about it just yet.

My Rating System

100 My happiness absolutely depends on it

95 Will definitely repurchase

85: Might repurchase (teas that depend on my mood)

75 Won’t repurchase (but I would drink it again if offered).

65: meh

45: I reluctantly finished a cup.

15: Couldn’t finish a cup.

I simplified my ratings to single numbers rather than ranges because I can’t precisely compare so many teas with a system more detailed than this.

An unrated tea is most often one that I recognize as having significant notable quality, but that does not suit me personally. Sometimes, I leave teas unrated for other reasons, such as I am undecided or I brewed it wrong, etc.

Note: Boiling temp. barely reaches 200 where I am (and a few times it sticks at 195, I assume due to unexplainable shifts in altitude or the position of the moon. . .aliens?. . .).
