I tried to love coffee long ago but gave it up for my true love – tea. I don’t discriminate between tisanes and teas and the like, it’s all wonderful and delicious. However, hibiscus and I do not get along except in very rare circumstances. I don’t do that tart-sour taste that so many use to mimic berry flavours. I avoid coconut and pineapple as a rule. I dislike sweetened teas, whether from genuine natural sugars or sweeteners, whether stevia or otherwise, although the odd bit of caramel or sweetened pieces I can tolerate. Oolongs and rooibos are near and dear to my heart – I love a good Tie Kwan Yin. If I go for the black teas, I’ll go with a chai with a Darjeeling base, likely homemade, although I am still nostalgically partial to the way my Welsh grandmother drank her Red Rose Orange Pekoe – astringent enough to make your mouth dry completely out and watered heavily down with copious amounts of full-fat milk and sugar.
