1379 Tasting Notes
I think that 52 Teas make my favourite Honeybush blends of all time. Frank seems to have a gift when it comes to blending Honeybush. I’m hoping that this one will be no exception.
It smells like sweet orange with a sour undercurrent that I’m guessing could be the cranberry. I’ve never had a cranberry orange scone before so have no basis for comparison. They do sound yummy though!
A nice long 8 minute steep should bring out all the flavour. Such a long time to wait though :(
Once finally steeped the tea is red brown in colour with a sweet, orange and very edible. I can just imagine taking a huge bite out of a scone and trying my best to ignore the calories.
I can taste creamy and sweet orange with a hint or sour cranberries and a thick after taste of Honeybush. Not as strong as I would like in terms of the fruit but it’s a charming blend non the less. Rather mellow in strength considering it has such a strong scent.
It may not be one of my favourites per say but I still maintain that Frank has a magic touch with his Honeybush blends.
Preparation
I’ve been meaning to try this for a while but I haven’t much been in the right mood for green tea. Time to ignore that and just go for it instead.
It smells like strong, dry walnut with a sweet off maple finish. By off maple I mean it’s similar (dark, treacly) but just not quite right. Not sure it smells like cake but the walnut is a dead certainty.
Once steeped the tea is light yellowy green with a the same strong walnut scent as it’s raw form. Possibly the most nuttiest tea I have ever sniffed.
It smells like walnut and it tastes like walnut. Toasted, dry, sweet yet slightly creamy walnut in liquid tea form. I can’t taste the sencha as such but it appears to be keeping the walnut on the light side. At least it’s drinkable. Not sure what to think of this blend, walnut is one of my favourite nuts but this edges on being bizarre. Also it leaves my tongue a little dry in the after taste.
Only a rough rating for now, it may change. I have perhaps two cups left of this plus another unopened 10g pouch if anyone is interested?
Preparation
Cinnamon + Autumn = Love.
Just me at home tonight while my husband is working late. We need to get up early in the morning to visit my grandparents on the way to Ikea. Hoping to pick up a new dining set, glass iced tea jug and a nosey at their storage. Not my idea of fun but my mum wanted to go and I volunteered to go with her. Speaking of my mother, yesterday I went for dinner to arrange our Ikea visit and she said she got me a gift and wanted to see me in it. So clothing I thought, great! I open the bag and there before me is a onesie, bright red with black stars. My face must have been a give away but I had to put it on for her and my mum was in her element…I felt like a big baby, all I was missing was the dummy (pacifier). I had to keep it on all night and even go home in it! All to keep her happy, my face turned redder than the onesie with embarrassment. :/
…………………………………………………………..
Anyway this tea smells strongly of cinnamon, so deliciously spicy and sweet. Smells like an American cinnamon chewing gum I used to buy as a child.
Wowsers! This is delicious! Similar to Maharaja Chai Oolong by Teavana but not as strong. It does taste like candy, like mild atomic fireballs without the aniseed. One of the best cinnamon teas I have had in a long time and I know my husband will love this one. It’s a cup of warming, sweet, spicy, pure cinnamon. It suits this cold Autumn perfectly.
Preparation
Adult onesies are seriously where it’s at! so so unbelievably comfortable. It’s just annoying to try and extract yourself to go to the bathroom the big kid way, though.
The onesie was fleecy and very warm, I could only describe it as being wrapped up into a blanket that you can walk around in with ease. I am a terrible sleeper and can guarantee I will get up in the night to visit the toilet, only it took me 5 minutes before I could last night. Bending my arm this way and trying to manoeuvre my way out of it…a lot of work.
I never thought of looking for storage tins…no idea why though. Thanks for the heads up, will have a good look :)
The last tea to try from my monthly club package. I did intend to try using this as a morning tea but unfortunately this morning my stomach was too raw to drink tea. Still I could do with a kick of energy so perhaps it will make an equally good afternoon pick me up tea.
The blend looks green and herbal, lots of light green lemon verbena and only a light sprinkle of dark green tea leaves. All roughly chopped together. It smells strongly like lemon with a creamy yet sour undertone.
Once steeped the tea is gold in colour with a rich lemon verbena scent. Not as sour as expected, more creamy than sour.
Flavour is not as strong as it’s scent and if I’m completely honest I cannot taste anything sweet or sour enough to be considered sherbet like. It’s just missing something, perhaps a touch of sugar and hibiscus?
So sherbet it is not but it is a nice green tea and lemon verbena blend. Gentle, creamy and fresh tasting lemon with a wonderful citrus after taste. I love lermon verbena teas and this is a nice blend, not too strong nor too weak but a nice balance inbetween the two.
I my try this with a little sugar next time to see if any sherbet comes out in the flavour.
Preparation
Sorry for the lack of posts but I have been unwell and unable to stomach any tea. Nothing serious, just a bug that has been going around.
This tea was part of my monthly club package that I have yet to try. The base is Rooibos and quite thick but large chunks of fruit and cinnamon bark are clearly noticeable. Smell wise it’s sweet apple, raisins and cinnamon with a baked pastry aroma, not sure where that is coming from but it smells delicious. It’s been a long time since I had any sort of sweet pastry. :(
Once steeped the tea is red brown in colour with a delicious sweet, sticky apple strudel pasty. Much nicer than the raw form and I didn’t think that was possible.
In flavour I can taste light and sweet with notes of apple, raisin, cinnamon and subtle hints of pastry. I think the pastry is present mostly because of a sweet almost buttery flavour that I cannot work out. The ingredients list things that I cannot detect at all such as orange, lemon and hibiscus.
My husband is a fan too, says it really does taste like apple strudel (and he rarely ever likes sweet teas). Another hit, not one of my favourites but a nice treat from time to time when I crave apple.
Preparation
Organic teas make me smile :)
The Kundaly has a rather sweet and nutty scent in it’s raw form. It’s colours are dark brown and red brown and the leaves are finely chopped.
Brewing Method – 1tsp Fresh boiling water 4 minute steep time
Once steeped the tea is dark golden brown in colour with a sweet earth and wood scent.
The tea is rather delicate and smooth with notable flavours of sweet wood, soft musk, dry nuts, mild raisins and malt. A very relaxing black tea that has flavour without a lot of strength (so milk is not required) and would make a wonderful evening tea.
It’s a very nice medium strength Organic Kundaly that has left me sipping the rest of my cup with a smile.
Preparation
It’s been a black tea day for the most part which my husband has enjoyed because his favourite teas are black. Still watching Luther (series 2 episode 3).
The tea whilst raw has a strong, smoky, dark, wooden scent. Just the way I like a black tea to smell.
Brewing this with a drop of soy milk.
Once steeped this tea smells robust, wooden and malted.
Flavour is wonderfully strong and sweetly wooden with elements of smoke, earth, leather and malt. It also has a musky quality and dryness. This would make a perfect breakfast tea or simple a ‘pick me up’ tea.
Very nice drink and I shall try it next time without the milk, I may even try it in the morning. Happy I tried this sample, may have to get some more of this.
Preparation
Thank you adagio breeze for this sample.
Watching series 2 of Luther and going through some samples to help clear my cupboard. Served this tea with only a drop of soy milk.
Flavour is softer than expected with a slight smokiness and malted with little to no astringency or harshness. A little too weak for me, I used 1tsp of leaves so next time I will try it with 1.5tsp or maybe even 2tsp and see how it bares as a breakfast tea. Still it’s an average Russian Caravan blend and worth trying.
I feel like many 52Teas blends are best at very short steep times – like 35-45 seconds. If you have enough, you can always experiment!
