drank Watermelon Matcha by Matcha Outlet
871 tasting notes

I got this one in basic grade and robust flavour.

On first sniff after opening the package it is delicious watermelon scent. Almost like watermelon gum or candy. It almost has a caramel scent to it. Not sure if it is supposed to have that or if there has been some contamination.

I made this one a cold shaken in a water bottle. No sweetener added. It is absolutely delicious. Very refreshing and thirst quenching. It tastes like watermelon gummy candies. Not quite authentic watermelon but also not overly artificial either. I get a bit of a creamy, caramel type flavour in the aftertaste, but it is not bad.

I would be interested to to add a bit of sweetener to see what it does to the taste. Also, not sure if ts one is going to be good hot, but I will give it a try anyway.

Oh, my!

This is wonderful. I cold brewed this overnight for about 12 hours. I think it might have been a bit too long becuase it is quite tart. But overall tastes almost identical to freshly squeezed lemonade. I added just a bit of sugar to sweeten it up. Tastes like the drinks you get at lemonade stands at fairs and exhibitions, but not as sweet. Just perfect for me!

Sil

want! lol man… you and your secret tea places that have ghetto websites. May need to do another swap sometime or just bite the bullet and blind order from them lol

Dexter

Their web site may not be the best, but that looks like a really fun store. Hmmmmmmmm, it’s only an 8 hours drive from here…..

Lala

You both need to come and visit and then you can get all the secret tea you want!

Sil – I would be interested in some of you A and D when it comes, so we can certainly do a swap!

Sil

Lala – It’s here! lol so we can swap anytime. though I’m happy to wait as well, let you get a chance to buy some more teas lol

drank Coconut Mango Colada by Tea Forte
871 tasting notes

Coconut is very hit or miss for me. I like real fresh coconut, not imitation coconut, dried coconut, or coconut flavour. But when I saw this tea I thought I had to give it a try because it smelled so delicious. I had some coconut tea from Hawaii a few years ago and it was soooooo good. I had to see if this one was a good.

While brewing is smells like rich, creamy, buttery, coconut, almost like coconut cream. There was a slight tartness to the smell, made me think of coconut and lime. The taste if the tea is strong coconut, smooth and rich. There is a very suble mango flavour, but it really could be any tropical fruit.

It’s pretty good, not the same as Hawaii but it will be good enough for now.

I love coconut! This sounds delicious!

Lala

I had to admit, it is pretty good. Tea forte has a whole line of coconut teas.

Courtney

I’ll have to check them out. Thanks!

Sil

Lala

Ha ha. So sorry! I can’t help it. I got this tea while on my “bender”.

I tried this yesterday, and found that the peices of the mix were so large, that you couldn’t get a good mix into just one cup. On further inspection of the packaging, it seemed that most everything settled to the bottom, except for the verbena leaves. So I dumped out the bag into a bowl, gave it a good stir and then put it back in the bag.

This time the blend tastes alot more balanced. The verbena is very slight. There is a good balance between the verbena, bamboo, lemongrass and ginger. It is not as spicey as it was the first try. I think I would like this tea to be a bit more ginger-y.

I bought this one to make as a cold brew. But I thought I should try is as a hot brew too. I pretty much expected super lemon because the only ingredient is lemon peel.

I love iced tea, but I think I love lemonade more.

It tastes just like hot lemonade. It is quite tart but in a good way. There is a sweetness, but in the way a tart lemon is also sweet. Dead on fresh squeezed lemons. I thought it would actually be worse hot. Looking forward to this one cold brewed.

you’re killing me! I so wish these guys had a functional website that didn’t make my eyes bleed. So many delicious sounding teas.

Lala

Ha ha. I know what you mean. I feel like their website is something that was made in grade 8 computer class.

Sil

actually… i’m pretty sure grade 8 kids can do better. It looks like something that was created over 20 years ago when online commerce was just starting out…an 8th grader probably did it back then lol

Rachel J

I had to check out this site to see what you guys were talking about. Oh lordy! Someone needs to show them Verdant’s site. ;p

Sil

rachel…or any site built after 2000 :)

Yeah, I know! Yikes!

drank Tokyo by Harney & Sons
871 tasting notes

I bought this tea because a few weeks ago I was at a sushi restaurant. I was waiting for the rest of the group to arrive and the host offered me a small cup of tea. It tasted exactly like roasted sesame seeds, almost like they were roasted on a BBQ. It was so good. The tea was not on the menu and when I asked what it was, the only answer I got was tea.

This tea is nothing like what I had. This tea is a smooth, gentle, buttery, green tea, with a few sesame seeds in it. There is only a very slight sesame taste to it. Actually, I wasnt even sure if there was sesame in the blend at all when I opened the package, but one floated to the top of the cup when I was steeping. There was also a ver light, creamy, sweet, caramel flavour.

Like the description from Harney and Sons, it does remind me of a dessert. But it is much more light than many other of the dessert teas that are out there.

drank Heavenly Cream by Sloane Tea Company
871 tasting notes

So Heavenly Cream is just another name for Creamy Earl Grey. And I am more than OK with that.

The dry tea smells very strong of bergamot. I actually had to double check the tin to make sure I grabbed the right one.

The brewed tea smells and tatse like a medium, smooth, black base, with strong bergamot flavour. There are also notes of creamy vanilla. The tea is very creamy and smooth, but also heavy.

Delicious!

Beautiful presentation/tin too!

Jasonde

Lala, can you recommend another tea like Heavenly Cream of same quality?

Lala

Hi Jason. Sorry for the late reply. I am not active on Steepster anymore. I haven’t found any other tea quite like Heavenly Cream. I would guess that Parisien Matin from Mariages Freres is similar in the fact that is has the creamy sensation.

Jasonde

Thank you Lala for replying. Take care!

So while I was drinking this tea, I was dreaming up my tasting note and what I was going to write because it is so awesome. But first I needed to take the laundry out of the washer. And guess what, the entire basement is backed up with laundry water. Thankfully not a sewer back up but nothing is draining down the sewer. Yuck. Now waiting for roto-rooter so I can pay them double time becuase it is the weekend. And I have never had sewer problems. Hrmph!

So lets see if this tea can make it better. First of all, the whole presentation of the tea is awesome. Awesome packaging, awesome tin, awesome smell, awesome looking dry tea, awesome that it is a Canadian company (Ontario), the price not so awesome – but I am sure I will get over that.

The smell of the dry tea is like candied peaches and cream. The brewed tea smells the same. The tea tastes like delicious peaches and cream. Fresh, fruity and delightful. It is a white tea base, so it is very light.

I bought this and there were 4 teas in a sample pack. Can’t wait to try the others!

this has made me want to go get the other mother’s day blends. Annoys me i can’t purchase them through sloane though…has to be at chapters and the 4 pack only has 2 of the new teas! bah! but i’m thinking maybe i’ll get this one and the caramel black…as a treat. lol

Lala

I am definitely impressed, great quality of tea. If you go on the Sloane website, you can look up places close to you that sell it, lots in Ontario. But I know some of their blends are exclusive to Indigo/Chapters.

Sil

Yeah the Mother’s Day ones are chapters exclusives. So I know where I’m going tomorrow lol

Miss Starfish

Ugh, flooding is so horrible! I hope things are fixed and drying out by now? Tea wise, this sounds absolutely delicious. Did you buy the sample pack from Chapters or Sloane?

Sil

you can’t get them except at chapters for this particular sampler. lesigh at least that’s my understanding

Lala

Basement is all good now. Unread out to be a tree root in the city party of the sewer line. I didn’t have any back up, just nothing going down. Now the fight with the city begins for who gets to pay the bill.
Yes bought the sample pack at chapters. Sloane made some specific blends that are only exclusives to indigo and chapters. The peaches and cream was one of them, so if the Mother’s Day tea I guess.

I decided to try the cold drip method again. This time I used a straight green, instead of a flavoured one. I had the ice dripping over the tea in a strainer, then the liquor draining into a mug. I didn’t want it to get too strong so I didn’t want the ice, tea leaves, and liquor to be all mixed together in a pot.

It actually turned out not too bad. The tea was very rich and buttery. Slightly sweet. Felt very thick.

drank Tower of London by Harney & Sons
871 tasting notes

This blend reminds me very much of Harney and Sons Paris. There is more fruity flavour in this blend, very much stone fruit. But I have a hard time placing which stone fruits, I get apricot, maybe plum, maybe cherry. I feel like I am getting a bit of a black currant type flavour.

The bergamot is moderately strong. You can definitely tell the base is an Earl Grey.

I got this one in one of Harney’s cute little tagalongs. Perfect to carry the tea around, and it fits lots in it.

I’m drinking this right now while scrolling through my dashboard/newsfeed. I get a titch of black currant as well, so it’s not just you. :) Stone fruits are hard to place as I find they very so much from region to region (I taste dark cherries from the South Island, for example, which taste very different to the dark cherries I would eat when I lived in British Columbia).

Profile

Bio

I am a lifetime tea lover.

I did foray into the world of coffee for a period of time, but I returned to my true love. I still, however, enjoy a good cup of java.

My all time favorite tea is Earl Grey, which I drink every morning, the stronger the bergamot the better. I definitely prefer natural oil of bergamot to artificial flavouring.

I mostly like black and dark oolong teas. My current favs are Fujian blacks, Keemun and Assams, and Wuyi oolongs. I gravitate towards anything with lychee in it. I also drink a lot of herbal blends but am wary of hibiscus. I do not favour mate, or pu’erh tea, although I have found a few blends that I like. (I so badly want to like straight pu’erh tea but it all tastes gross to me. I keep trying though). Rooibos, green and white teas fall somewhere in the middle. I find myself gravitating towards heavily roasted oolongs and teas from Paris/France based companies.

I love iced teas and cold brews.

My current tea goal is to make the perfect cup of chai from scratch – almost there…I think.

I am in love with the whole experience of tea.
