drank Cardamom Tea by Alokozay

Grabbed this at a Middle Eastern Market in the Mission while I was in San Francisco. I’d say this is really coffee-like with zero coffee in it – although that may be because my son’s grandparents put cardamom in their coffee grounds prior to brewing. (Try it, it’s delicious!) Rich, full, heavy and thick tea, and surprisingly tasty for bagged.

Flavors: Cardamom, Thick

Preparation
200 °F / 93 °C 3 min, 0 sec 2 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML

oh, I love cardamom. do you remember the name of the market or where it was? :)

MissB

I can’t seem to find the name of it. It was right on Mission, along the less, er, nice side of the street, just past the 24th & Mission BART station. So my horrible directions… it’s almost directly across the street from the soda shop on Mission. Oh wait, I think I found it on Yelp. Samiramis Imports, 2990 Mission Street (between 26th and 25th).

groovy, thanks!

drank Guava Cadabra by DAVIDsTEA

Holy mackerel, is this another amazing tea from DAVIDs this summer. I grabbed 20g and it was gone in a flash… 4 tsp in 12 oz. boiling water, steeped three to five minutes, poured over ice… it’s pure heaven in a glass. Went to go grab a ton more yesterday with my 15% off, and they’re temporarily (yay, it’s coming back!) sold out. Oh, and leave it unsweetened… it’s freakishly sweet as-is.

Flavors: Candied Apple, Thick

Iced 5 min, 0 sec 4 tsp 32 OZ / 946 ML

This really is a thick, lovely coffee substitute. Having said that, drinking it as an iced tea? Underleaf it considerably. I’d normally use 4 tsp of tea for my large iced cups, but I used 3 tsp here and it was still too much.

Never thought to ice this…

drank Hot Tropic by DAVIDsTEA

Cold steeped overnight, then made into iced tea this morning. I’ve guzzled it, it’s just so darn good. I do notice more apple than anything though when I make it this way, as a long, cold, second steep.

Iced 8 min or more 4 tsp 32 OZ / 946 ML

Made this today iced, and it’s really tasty and refreshing with the cool mint coming through in the background. Phew! Thought I’d ruined it with a touch of oversteeping.

Flavors: Chocolate, Drying, Mint

Damn you Sil for suggesting this when it came out. I’ve gone through 350g of this so far (so wish I was joking!) as both hot and iced, although right now it’s mostly just iced. Needs no sweetener, and it really is an amazing pina colada tea with a hint of spices, like spiced rum. I want to try and make this as a slushy, rum pina colada cocktail… but I drink it too fast to get that far.

Flavors: Coconut, Hibiscus, Pineapple, Sweet

Preparation
Iced 5 min, 0 sec 4 tsp 16 OZ / 473 ML

Lol that’s especially funny to me since I am not generally a fan of a davids lol

I ran out, and eventually bought $4.32 more of it, which works out to about 100g. Score! Made it iced today, and while I like it better hot, it’s still damn tasty tea. Sweet anise today mostly, with some hints of sasparilla.

Flavors: Anise, Root Beer, Smooth

Preparation
Iced 4 min, 45 sec 4 tsp 16 OZ / 473 ML

I need to check this out! :) Still haven’t made it to the Drive. Maybe this weekend.

Grabbed a bag of this while at the Lupicia store in SF, and I’m so glad I did. Very much coffee-like, with notes of burnt sugar in there. I don’t get honey, but I’m cool with that!

Flavors: Burnt Sugar, Coffee, Roasted

Preparation
200 °F / 93 °C 3 min, 0 sec 2 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML

i love this one for a coffee like beverage

Yea, not my cup of tea. It tastes like raspberry soap, more so as it cools.

Well that does not sound pleasant at all. Hope you dumped the cup and moved on to something delicious

Ew. Ew. Ew. I didn’t know what one of the main ingredient in here (vasaka), and I should have done some more research. This is… yuck! It’s tart and bitterly so. Pass.

Profile

Bio

A few years ago, the obsession with tea started. The cupboard got bigger and bigger, more swaps occurred, group buys, secret rendezvous with local teapassionistas… and that’s how you end up with 500+ different kinds of tea in your home. At one time.

Almost all of the tea was given away, sold, or otherwise shared. A few relics still remain. I now travel full time with only two carryon bags to my name. One quarter of those bags are tea.

It’s still a challenge to avoid the chipmunk-like hoarding of The Teas, yet, the lightness of being from having so little compels me more.

If I have enough, I’m happy to share. If I’m in your area, I’d love to swap, meet for tea, and explore together.

As for the day-to-day stuff, I’m focused almost entirely on Love, (yes, with a capital L), Spirit/Self, transformation, travel and my writing and speaking work.

What kinds of teas do I normally like?

YES: flavored teas, fruity, dessert, chai, and spicy (REALLY spicy).

A FONDNESS FOR: all white teas, malty black teas, any herbal or medicinal teas, strange/weird teas you can only get in one place.

ALLERGIC TO: strawberries, lavender

DISLIKES: any added sugars, grains, lapsang souchong, and overly floral teas – I might enjoy a Jasmine Green every once in a while, but unless it’s a creamy floral tea (think roses in a chai, or the smoothness of a floral note in a French tea), I’ll likely pass. Earl Greys are a hit or miss with me; heavy on the cream or fruit notes and I might like it, heavy on the blergamot and I definitely won’t.
