2966 Tasting Notes
Ok, this time for real- I am going to get the hang of iced tea. It’s going to be 108 today, with tomorrow being around the same. I’ve done some trial brewing, but this is the summer where I really learn how this iced tea thing is done.
Whew. I do not like summer!
So the only thing I can be said to really like that has come out of the pandemic is that there are a lot more classes offered virtually. I’ve been happily taking classes online for a few years now, delighted to be getting a lecture from someone far away and getting to indulge my passions for all sorts of subjects.
Yesterday I was in an all day long virtual lecture about Art Nouveau (offered through the Smithsonian), which was wonderful. And I got to be in the comfort of my own home, sipping tea and knitting while I got to look at gorgeous architecture, art, and jewelry.
So, as someone who loves themes and harmony, I decided that I would pick a tea that reminded me of the Art Nouveau movement.
Enter Eros, a delicate cloud of flavor. Ooooh, but this is nice. It lets me float off into happiness, and did indeed pair very well with my class.
Yum!
I escaped this weekend to the Bay Area, where I spent a day with my sister in Berkeley. It was a delightful change from the billion degree heat where I am.
When we were there she took me to a fancy international food store, where there was not only Marriage Freres tea, but Marriage Freres tea that was in bulk bins, where I could buy just as much as I wanted!
Oooh, this is dangerous and wonderful, and I am so, so glad to have Marco Polo again.
Yum!
So it’s been over 100 degrees for the last four days. We’ve been a heat advisory, and I have been hiding inside, hissing at the sky.
The only hot beverages I’ve managed was my morning cup, which has been this for the last couple of days.
This year is the one where I should get the hang of iced tea. I will develop this skill!
Hissing at the sky. I like that. We’ve been doing a fair amount of that ourselves: the precipitation that has been promised almost daily for two weeks splits in half and goes in either direction around us.
We are having a little respite from the killer heat! Wahoo! It won’t last, and a week of 100 plus temps is coming my way, but for today I will drink some hot tea in, if not comfort, at least not a sweaty mess.
This summer I will really get the hang of iced tea! I shall figure it out.
We escaped for as long as we could here, but it’s all over. It was 106 Saturday, and 109 Sunday, and at least 101 today.
It’s the least enjoyable time of the year, where I drink my morning tea sweating and then spend the rest of the day miserable hoping that things will cool down again.
Sigh. Welcome to summer.
Same here, Rosehips! Heat index over 100F every day for the past several days and for the next few. Heat advisory being announced every day. This makes me so ready for fall!
You know how in Narnia it’s always winter and never Christmas? That’s how this week has felt.
It is a short work week, which sounds lovely, but really means I have four days to do five days worth of work, and my boss is at a conference for half of this week, meaning I need to man the fort all by myself.
Then, after all the nonsense with my credit card, a scammer called me pretending to be from my bank, and tried to get my account login information from me. Fortunately I didn’t fall for it, but it was still no fun at all, and created extra worry around the situation with my bank.
And I woke up with a headache! Ugh!
Sorry everyone, I don’t mean to be a whiner. But I can safely say that this cup of tea is a lifeline (as are all of you, my kind, invisible tea friends!)
Sigh. Its been a long week.
My siblings were out for the anniversary of my fathers death, which has been hard. Also I’ve been going through a lot at work, and my brain has not been all in while going through the anniversary.
Then, last week, my credit card got hacked. It got caught right away, no big deal, but today the credit card replacement came…. in the wrong name. (They’ve used my middle name as my last name, which happens more often than you’d think!).
Sigh. June is not my month.
We I do get an acceptable payment method back, I am ordering some more tea! In the meantime, yum yum Queen Catherine!
Some days you need a tea which is tasty but not too special, as you had a terrible nights sleep and need the ol’ wake up juice, rather than a euphoric tea experience.
This will do. Strong, pleasant, but not a favorite, so I can sip it in bleary peace.
I agree, summer is the worst. :P
I’d love to swap living situations with one of you because I love summer haha!
Bring on the fall bebe! XD
And I complain here when temperatures hit 30°C for second week in summer. Yesterday I felt sleepy in the office. I checked the thermometer — 30.5°C ouside, inside 29°C. No surprise.
We had a heat index of 46.1C one day this week! It was absolutely disgusting.
That’s 115F, so you don’t have to convert!
