drank Coffee & Cigarettes by Butiki Teas

woot woot! yeah that’s right… i’m drinking this one. I have a bunch of this one, and thankfully, the flavouring hasn’t been lost…and even if it does, i happen to enjoy this puerh, so i’m still set on this one. I really do enjoy drinking this one, even without any sweetner or milk. I don’t smoke, never have but i love that this makes me feel like those scenes in a movie where the person has clearly been out partying too hard, has woken up and while drinking coffee to chase the hangover away, can still taste cigarettes from the evening before. or something. i dunno. lol

drank Diyi Cornfields Shu by Verdant Tea

I brought these with me to Ottawa as well, since they do well with “gonfu” in a basket. I figure i can drink this every day as my afternoon working tea and have another tea sipped down by the time i get home, or shortly after :) This isn’t my favourite sticky rice sort of tuo but it’s a nice one and makes for a pleasant cup on this rainy day.

Interesting- I will be visiting Ottawa in October for my sister in Law’s wedding. Any recommendations for tea shops?

Sil

There aren’t a lot out here that i’m aware of. I haven’t been to “Tea Store.” World of tea is nice if you’re looking for straight teas. Shanti tea has had some nice teas that i’ve tried – you can place and order and pick up from their location in Ottawa, but i don’t think? you can just go in and buy from them here..that being said, someone’s asked that question on their FB page and it looks like they’ve never answered…any of their FB posts.

If by “The Tea Store” you mean the one in Byward Market, I was there in February, and it was kind of meh. From what I remember, most of their loose-leaf tea was Metropolitan blends, plus there was the usual assortment of “funky yet still non-threateningly mainstream” teaware.

There’s still World of Tea,http://www.world-of-tea.ca

Ignore the above, very tired. There is also cha yi in gatineauhttps://chayi.ca/en/contact-us/

Don’t like this harvest. I’ve tried to drink this version in multiple ways and all I get is dirt. I’m channeling my inner “omgsrsly” i think. Not the end of the world, but i have ZERO desire to drink the rest of this. So i’m not going to. A waste of tea but i am really not a fan of this harvest and i refuse to drink things that i don’t enjoy.

Original version of this was a 91 for me; this year is closer to a 54.

boychik

I gotta try mine

Sil

if you try it and love it, let me know. I’d happily send you the rest of mine so it goes to a good home.

boychik

Ok. Thanks dear ;)

Dexter

Such a great tea…. sad face that you aren’t enjoying that harvest. :(

Tealizzy

Agreed. I bought some based on the rave reviews and I’m just not getting that flavor everyone fell in love with.

Sil

i think that’s one of my complaints with Tao – would like to see harvests on his teas so that I could be sure i was getting the same year that i enjoy. The nice thing is, i can stop buy the store if i need to, but not everyone has that luxury.

Sil

@tealizzy – i’m sorry to hear that. the version that has the rave reviews, was a totally different beast than this version. it was wonderful. this is..dirt.

boychik

Do you think we should let him know? If new harvest is not that great why offer it at all :(

Sil

he might be out by now… that was 2014 harvest..i’m guessing.

I still prefer the first version of this blend, but this version is still decent. Not that it really matters at the end of the day, since these verdant blends will be no more!

noms. I’m “working from ottawa” for a few days this week while i wait on my dress to be adjusted. I’ll be happy to have that off my list so i can focus on all the other details of the wedding. We’re getting down to the end of things, and it’s all starting to really come together now. Since i’m here for nearly a week, i brought a number of teas with me that i want to get closer to finishing. I figure since i won’t have access to my entire tea cupboard, it’ll force me to focus on these teas, :) I just wish i could have packed up my tea tray and gaiwan for more puerh enjoyement. I’m still enjoying this one and will be sad to see it go when i finish it. It’s much less cinnamon roll than red heart candies, but i am still a fan! :)

Wedding times! Glad to hear the planning’s all going well. Weddings are awesome. :3

(Also I’m super bummed I didn’t get a chance to order this tea before it went away. Ho hum. I live vicariously through other people’s tasting notes.)

Sil

Think of all the tea you don’t need to sipdown! :)

drank Blackberry by TeaGschwendner

farewell delicious blackberry tea! You were wonderful while i had you especially in the humidity and heat that is toronto these days. I’d pick this up again in a heart beat because it’s got a great flavour to it and there are actual blackberries in it! I have loved this cold brewed – even hot it’s pretty tasty too.

I also pulled this one out of my cupboard today. I have had the 2010 version of this tea, so now i feel like i should do a comparison at some point in the future.

this one started out slightly earthy but mostly just smooth, with a hint of that leather sort of taste in the background. later steepings had echoes of cocao but not quite. I’ll have to spend another day with this one to really get in to things – sadly work exploded in the afternoon, so while i kept drinking, it wasn’t focused :(

An interesting theory about this tea is that because they use large grade nine leaves it should in theory have less caffeine than some other puerhs. Larger leaves are believed to contain less caffeine than small leaves.

Sil

really? interesting!

my “2008” puerh for today. this one is a smooth tasting puerh. After a few steeps i still haven’t gotten a handle on it. it’s sweet..and very much a shou. Some elements of rich cocoa… hmmm enjoying this so far. but glad i have the day to explore.

I have been up since forever this morning and because of that, i’m trying to get through a few puerh that i haven’t yet tried, in the event i ever get around to being allowed to place an order. so i randomly pulled a 2007, 2008 and 2009 out of my cupboard of various puerhs to see what was what.
this particular one, is slow to build – the initial rinse and few steeps being lighter but still smooth and tasty. It reminds me of a few other puerhs that i’ve had – being nothing spectacular, but still an enjoyable drink. We’ll see how the rest of the day goes.

So no real clue what to write about myself here. A friend got me into drinking loose tea and it’s something I thoroughly enjoy though I have nowhere near the experience that many folks on the boards seem to have.

My other interests are cycling, reading, board games, disney cruises, world of warcraft and dancing – in no particular order. I love travelling and am currently working on trying to get my other half to as many place in the world as possible.
