15061 Tasting Notes
not sure how i feel about this one. CS lists this as an oolong but there is way more a puerh like feel to this. I’d like to try brewing this again gongfu style, as today i simply tried it western brew according to the paramters on the bag. The result was a fairly strong earthy brew. verdict is out until i try this again
mmm i think i’m torn on this one as to whether i like the cold brew or hot brew more. Both are enjoyable though i think the hot brew eeks out just a little as the winner. Mostly, because it makes the blend just a little smoother. It’s as close to ruby red as i imagine a brew getting to now that stacy’s gone. Not too shabby DT….not too shabby.
Final Count: 121
hot brew – not too shabby, I think i prefer this one brewed hot and then cooled. It brings out the raspberry flavour a little more, and lets the mint take a smaller role. Still not a smashing success for me, but i understand why folks would enjoy this. tasty enough to try but that’s all i need from this one.
dear god…yes. I pulled this one out this morning because i haven’t had it in a bit and it is still as wonderful as i remember. delicious creamy caramel. melted butter and deliciousness. so good.
I’m on my second steep of this one today! I think Fauchon’s version juuuust edges this one out for me, but I love having it in my cupboard and cup for sure.
dexter sent me this to try and today i tried to compare it with the 2014 version. I’m glad i have a little more to try this again because this was fairly flat and tasteless today compared to the 2014 version (which imo was a little less awesome than 2013). i’m going to withhold my rating until i have a chance to try this again….plus it’ll give me time to convince dexter to try it as well :)
Oh no! I was hoping this one would be awesome! I have this one coming with YS order I placed at the end of April. I gave away all my 2014 in swaps.
In all fairness – I emailed Scott to ask about it, since YS has never had a “bad” tea in my books…some that are not “MY” cup of tea, but overall their teas are good. His response: The tea is very fresh. It’s typical for black teas to hit their prime about 6 months in. You could leave the bag open for a couple of days and leave in a cool dry place. I think you’d find it will improve.
I’ll have to try that, as I have noticed in the past that some black teas have tasted better later on. Always willing to give it a shot :)
I agree. Especially with Yancha. It needs some time to mature. This tea is fr the same region. Try it in September . It will be weather appropriate too ;)
I didn’t buy any of the 2015 teas…not because I didn’t want to, but because I’m trying not to spend money, and because I still have plenty from 2014, & in some cases even 2013!
The benefits of being a tea hoarder :)
I wish that were the case terri! I’m doing pretty good at keeping my cupboard in a 6 month rotation ish..
Noms. Still love this one…so glad that Terri introduced me to it. I have enough to last me for a while yet thanks to her! it’s more delicious in the fall because of the flavour profile, but it’s still a tasty treat in the evenings :)
