188 Tasting Notes
Yesterday morning I went for this one as I was looking for something black, and chocolate sounded good too.
I’m pretty familiar with Della Terra teas being that they are the only company that I’ve ordered much of so far… their sales real me in too easily! Now.. if they did 30% off and free shipping .. I’d be in trouble, and likely w/multiple orders!
This has a nice black base and the chocolate is just that… a nice chocolate. Not too rich, not bitter, but good. A touch of raw sugar and my Hubby called this dessert in a cup.. Sounds good to me. I have found a few chocolates in tea that just aren’t great for me.
I will admit that as I drank it, all I could think about was “What could I add to this?”. I like my black chocolate mint teas and this was missing my mint… A good tea, but I was missing something. I was considering an order of Harney and Sons the other day with their free shipping to try their SoHo (chocolate and coconut), but didn’t call in time (didn’t want a full tin & was going to ask for 2 oz if they could do that)… With that in mind, I wondered how I could add my own coconut flavor to this. Hmmm.. & if I had some more of this tea I could add fresh garden peppermint to the mix instead of buying it already in a tea blend…. Which would make it cheaper… a tiny bit, since I was adding my own mint & not paying for them in the blend…. Hmmm.. First time I’ve had a tea and thought about what I could add to it, I think.
Thanks EvaGrimm for sending me a sample of this one :)

Backlog from St. Patrick’s Day.
I saved this one for dinner so my husband and son could all have a taste of this one…. I was able to get my 8 year old to try it since it was a “perfectly named tea” for the day. He drank it down just fine and said he liked it… Yeah!
Hubby and I didn’t really get too much Irish Cream or cheesecake in this blend. It was creamy and rich. I added a little raw sugar to mine and still a nice creamy tea. It went well with our corned beef and cabbage dinner (a favorite of my Hubby’s).
Thanks MissB for sharing this one. I ‘m glad I somehow managed to save it for the proper day … Sometimes that’s all it takes to get my little guy to try something ;)
Wanted something to go with Saint Patrick’s Day and for some reason I thought “mint”… Probably because I enjoy it so much and haven’t had any for a few days. Why did I even need an excuse anyway?
Saving the Irish Cream Cheesecake tea for later when Hubby and I can enjoy it together. :) & who knows.. Maybe I can get my little guy to try is since it goes with the day!
This one good as always.. mostly minty black with a bit of chocolate to round out the cup.
I started a note on this a few days ago and didn’t get it finished. I was hoping it would still be here when I was ready to finish it, but no go…. Vamoosh! It’s gone.
I’ve not been real adventurous in the citrus area when it comes to tea. My dad always used to try and make us drink iced tea and lemonade mixed together when I was a kid and we had the unfortunate timing of having them both in the fridge together at the same time…. He loved it, so thought we should too. Then, my first experience with bergamot was too much for me, so I’ve kind of been avoiding citrus and tea together.
Earlier this week, I had a cup of Three Friends, by Butiki… Loved it! The citrus was present for me, but as a nice surprise at the end of the sip, and so pleasant. I admit I had been kind of holding off on both Three Friends and this one because of their citrus notes. After trying Three Friends, I decided I was ready to venture on to something with even more citrus flavor… this one.
Dry it smells sweet and lightly of orange zest.
Steeped I got wonderfully sweet orange, nothing like the bergamot experience that was too much for me or the acidic addition of lemonade, but pleasant sweet orange loveliness with a hint of chocolate. The flavors don’t compete & it is mild and delicious. I’m glad MissB thought enough to send both of these teas my way as they were a nice introduction to orange & tea… From someone who didn’t think they would like citrus in the main flavor of their tea… Thank You!

Preparation
This one is in my cupboard thanks to my Hubby taking me on my first trip to Teavana.
I love mint chocolate teas so this one was going home with me to try.
Dry this smells very chocolately with a mint that reminds me of mint chocolate chip ice cream.
Steeped it is much the same. I don’t get any of the black base tea, but mainly chocolate and mint (like the flavor of ice cream mint, not peppermint or spearmint). If you’re up for a really rich, thick mint chocolate tea, this is it. I added a bit of raw sugar to bring out the dessert quality in this blend.
I’m finding Teavana’s blends to be much like what you get at Starbuck’s when you order a flavored beverage… Overly flavored & overly rich. I can see wanting something like that once and awhile, but not an everyday thing… at least for me. When I get something at Starbuck’s, if it’s a mocha, I always ask for half the mocha or I can’t taste anything but chocolate… why have something coffee flavored if you can’t taste the coffee?
Steeped as a latte & sweetened, I could see this blend tasting much like a mint chocolate chip hot chocolate. Saying that… I like this one, but only when I’m looking for something like a true dessert. chc

Another backlog from earlier in the week, and another green.
I so wanted to like this one because of it’s spice and all of the reviews I’ve seen here describing it as tasting something like red hots, or candy cinnamon hearts.
I got mostly a vegetal green tea base with a hint of spice. A bit of sugar brought out the green tea even more for me. Often as a green tea cools some I can get more of the other flavors, but not so with this one. Maybe I’ll try a lower temperature and longer steep time with the next cup and see if that changes anything for me.
Thanks Janelle for sending this one my way in the mystery package.
Preparation
Another green! I’m making my way through some of the samples I have.. and trying some of the greens. If there are enough flavors that pair well with the base, I do well… if I taste mostly green, I give the cup to Hubby if he’s home. I must say, I’m doing better with greens though. :)
Dry this smells sweet & spicy.
Steeped I get a light tea that I’m not sure how to describe. I reminds me so much of the little craft/home décor stores that you walk into that smell so good. Kind of fruity, sweet and a bit of floral, but then at the end of the sip I get a kick of spice… must be the peppercorns &/or cinnamon. I’m not real familiar with currants, so maybe that’s why I have a little trouble with the description.
I’m finding I enjoy this more than I expected (even with an accidental over steep) … a really light tea, green base that is just a base and not acting as part of the flavor, and a nice surprise of spice at the end. A touch of raw sugar made the fruit/floral flavor pop a bit.
Thanks MissB for sharing this one!
Preparation
Another tea from another day… seems I’ve not had time to make tasting notes this week.
Dry leaf this one smells sweet and vanilla w/a bit of fruitiness.
Steeped I get a nice black base with a fruit flavor- can’t distinguish the fruit, and maybe that’s why I like this one. When it comes to flavored teas, Hubby goes for some of the fruit flavored blends, especially blueberry or raspberry, and I tend to go more for spice or dessert teas. This one comes through as rich and fruity, a touch of sugar makes the fruit come through even more.
Since I really enjoyed this one, I asked Hubby about it since he had recently had a cup, we generally don’t agree on what we like, he told me he thought it was one that we should stock in our cupboard.. Wow.. we agree on another tea!
Thanks MissB for sending a generous sample of this our way!
Preparation
Backlog from a few days ago… can’t remember exactly how I steeped this and didn’t log it.
Dry leaf smells wonderful of sweet toffee/caramel.
Steeped I got a very deep rich base that almost overwhelmed the caramel/toffee. I was surprised by this since I generally like black teas.
*Me thinks I’m glad I have enough for one small cup to try again. I will hold off on rating until then.
Another nice one from Butiki… I’m not surprised :)
This is a lovely, light, creamy, vanilla buttery tea. I get a bit of the green base, but it’s not overwhelming and the flavors blend together nicely. I don’t get any of the spices of eggnog, but still a nice cup… for a green ;) (which I’m slowly developing a taste for ).
Thanks MIssB for sending a bit of this my way!
