So this tea got a bit of a bad rap from me because I wasn’t able to look at it without comparing it to other tea varieties in the same strain. Now that I’ve been away from it for awhile now I feel that I do enjoy it more.
The dry leaf has a very cloying smell when you first open the bag (or in my case jar). It is very milky smelling with notes of coconut. This reminds me of coconut milk more than anything else. I recently have been drinking a 1/2 almond milk, 1/2 coconut milk blend that strongly reminds me of this.
I have to admit that the leaves that Adagio decided to use for this tea is very generous. They are large, wiry when dry, and unfold quickly. I am impressed that I was able to enjoy a pretty decent oolong for the price.
For me when I think of coconut pouchong I think of a lighter flavor with more vanilla. This particular one is light, but it has much more creamy notes than expected. This would be great for someone on a tea budget or someone who wants something lightly tropical.
