First impressions:
Balsamic, chestnut honey, complex. Deep and bright. Intense.

1
Sweet, full bodied. Nice bite and bitterness. Beewax from the empty cup.

2
Balsamic, dark citrus, pine resin. Chestnut honey. Delicate aftertaste. Smooth and balanced body, tangy bitter sweet.

3
Very rich, dark chocolate, Orange. Lingering citrusy aftertaste

4
Aroma doesn’t Change much, gets less citrusy and more earthy. Liquor less thick. dry. Aftertaste is good and coats the mouth in a gentle way. Heart goes faster, head slows down.

5
Aroma doesn’t change much. Body thins out. I feel the caffeine. Chest tension. Flavours look more simple and clear.

6
Simpler, citrus gets stronger and fresher. Real dark honey feeling in the liquor. Aromatic bittersweet.

7
I steeped it for 5 minutes but the liquor was weak and watery. Not much flavour left.

Final thoughts:
I found it deep and satisfying, not very dynamic but never boring. It gives me a warm and healing sensation. Good match with today’s rainy weather.
However I feel it’s strong on caffeine and today is making me nervous.

First impressions:
The wet leaves greet me with a complex and mysterious aroma. It’s deep, vegetal, fruity, sweet.

1
The aroma makes me feel like being in the middle of a forest. It’s summer, the sun is high but I’m in the shadow of the trees. An intense heat intensifies the strong scent of this dark and humid place. It’s a low-toned aroma. The liquor is sweet and light, I get some flowers and steamed vegetables.

2
Aroma: Toasted rice, hojicha and other stuff that I can’t name properly.
Liquor: I think of some green oolong/toasted green tea. Medium-rich chicken stock texture. Good balance of savoury/sweet. Light tannins gently coating the mouth with a floral aftertaste.

3
Aroma is not super intense, now I get more hay.
Liquor: fairly smooth, medium thin, floral bittersweet. Toasted. Delicate aftertaste, semi rough texture in the roof of the mouth.
I feel focused and grounded. My brain activity is slowing down.

4
Aroma feels alive but very delicate. Vegetal, hay, possibly some mint, yellow fruits.
Liquor: roasted green oolong (can’t be more specific). It’s fresh, toasted. Balanced game of bitter-sweet-tannic. Very likeable but maybe a bit boring for me.

5
Aroma gets earthy and sharp. Roots, artichoke.
Liquor: more tannic and bitter, not much sweetness. “The equaliser needs some adjustments”.
Cooling sensation, mint. Still approachable. I feel slow but there’s some tension in my chest.

6
Aroma is fading, the bitterness calmed down leaving an astringent/floral tie guan yin like liquor.

7
I get more pungency and some vanilla at this point. There’s not much sweetness. Feels fresh and cooling. Lemon balm aftertaste.

I could keep going but feels a bit boring at this point.

Final thoughts:
To me this is a friendly and fairly interesting tea. It’s still fresh but has a “calm” nature. At the moment tends to be quite floral, with a white sugar sweetness. I’m curious to see how this will age.

First impressions: sweet tobacco, vanilla. Something oceanic in the background.

1
Wet leaves: medicinal herbs, a tiny bit of camphor, some smoke.
Liquor: smooth, brown sugar, vanilla, herbaceous, slightly cooling. “Elegant” astringency.

2
more sweetness, clarity. Aroma feels sort of muted.

3
back to strong aromas: aged tobacco, damp vegetation, oyster sauce.
Liquor: smooth, earthy, brown sugar, vanilla.
The body is kind of thin for me, it has a pleasant astringency that leaves some roughness in the mouth. My heartbeat gets slow and loud. Some energy in my arms. My head feels heavy.

4
Aroma “faded” again… am I being influenced by the fact this tea is named “Fade”?
Liquor is kind of thin but the good astringency gives a feeling of fullness. There’s no much aftertaste

5
Reminiscence of ripe fruits hiding under a pile of old damp leaves.
More vanilla, black pepper, slight bitterness in the tip of the tongue.
I feel slightly sedated but there’s some energy in my chest.

6
More camphor and medicinal herbs, I found it very pleasant and not overly sweet. Maybe some smoke. Brown sugar, or maybe stevia. Brown stevia.
Now it’s more pungent and drying and makes me hungry.

7
Fragrance keeps changing, this time is mainly vanilla.
I just had some crackers with black pepper and I can’t taste the tea properly at this point.

8
Fading. Pleasant liquor with not much bitterness and some faint taste.
I could keep pushing but I had enough.

Flavors: Brown Sugar, Camphor, Medicinal, Tobacco, Vanilla

First impressions: mouthwatering mango yogurt.
Very light and not super complex but somehow it makes me happy.

1 & 2
Pungent, creamy, tropical aroma. Liquor nice creamy, steamed vegetables. Slightly astringent but smooth. Body thin and elegant. A beginning of bitterness.

3
More bitterness appears in the liquor and aroma as well. Pleasant lingering sweetness, heart racing, head feels heavy. Candies from the empty cup. Still sweet and full.

4 & 5
Less creamy, more herbal and mineral. Pungent.
Liquor feels like melted ice, thin body, drying and vegetal. Cooling sensation. Astringency in the throat. Some lingering aftertaste.

6
Same as before, still tasty but more thin and bitter.

7
The bitterness has settled, thin body and nice fragrance. The fruits are becoming flowers.

8
Less interesting, vegetal, more flowery. Very drying. Caffeine is strong and makes me nervous.

Flavors: Candy, Creamy, Herbaceous, Mango, Vegetal, Yogurt

First impressions: strong honey, hay, smokey, sweet.

1
Fruity honey, some sweet hay, little flowers, camomile tea?

2
Fruity, herbal, smokey, honey. Mouthcoating sweet honey. Little astringency. I don’t know why it reminds me of camomille tea. Hay.

3
Cooling, smoke, sweet roots, honey. Liquor is very sugary with a nice body and some black pepper spicyness. Satisfying.
Astringency in the throat.

Aroma of some kind of shampoo. Also white tea.

4
More white tea aroma (I can’t be more specific…)
Body like Liquid jelly. Relaxing /paralyzing head feeling, body less relaxed.
Heart racing.
Flowers in the aftertaste.
I think “A solid experience”.

5
Rich and astringent in a pleasant way. Grips in the throat with an honey like feel. Flowers.

6
More herbs, roots. Liquor has a good presence, a light bitterness that feels pleasant to me.
Super long lasting spicy flowery aftertaste. Rough texture in the mouth.

7 8
losing something. More bitterness.

9
Less interesting, I stop.

I had high expectations after reading the other reviews but my experience is for some reasons a bit underwhelming. I’m getting a lot of camphor, medicinal and honey flavours that don’t like so much and don’t get often mentioned by other reviews. The tea is strong and vibrant, not particularly complex but anyway I found it entertaining and I liked the qi.
This tea reminds me of Bowmore 12 whiskey.

Smelling the wet leaves I get welcomed by a bomb of smoke and camphor. Bittersweet. Herbal medicine. Wood. Honey.

1
I get some nauseating overly sweet apple/raw potatoes puree aroma.
Light smoke. Astringency, honey aftertaste. Tingling in the throat.

2
Very sweet honey and medicinal herbs. Heavy. Raw potatoes.
Honey aftertaste in the throat, heaviness in the head. Forehead tingling, loud and slow heartbeat.

3
Herbal reminds me of yerba mate.
Strong honey.
Liquor more full-bodied and interesting. More acidity spreading around. Brown sugar, gentle aftertaste. Relaxing, grounding. No bitterness

4
Forest. Hyppie camping. The smell of wet nature, cloudy day, a campfire.
The liquor is very sweet and vibrant. I feel I can get easily tired of this type of sweetness.
The base is still herbs and honey.
I feel relaxed and comfortable. I forget about everything else.

5
Same as before plus Incense.
A vague feeling of black pepper and ripe fruits.

6
A bit more astringency and Cooling sensation. No big changes. Slightly dry finish. Still relaxing.

7
Flavour is losing intensity without adding anything new. Liquor is steady and clean. A bit boring.
I feel some tension. More pepper spiciness.

8
Camphor it’s been there the whole time and still doesn’t give up.
The tea keeps going. I feel like stopping.

Edit 26/07/21
I had another session with this and I enjoyed it much more. I like the smoke element and the camphor was not overwhelming this time. Maybe I’m developing a taste for aged sheng?

At first a very creamy tropical yogurt aroma from the wet leaves. Mouthwatering.

1
Liquor mineral, creamy, fruity. Vegetal. Peach. Brown Sugar. Chestnut. Complex, warm. Mmh, interesting…

2 tropical, milky , a bit of bitterness/astringency. Silky. Sweet. Delicate flavours building in the mouth. Empty cup smells like burnt sugar.

Slightly Cooling, like a layer of fresh air coating mouth and throat. Heart beating faster. Peach Bellini.

3
Cooling feeling intensifies. Tingling in the throat. More astringency. Beautiful long lasting acidic aroma.

4
Complex acidic flavours.
Liquor is stable, more astringent. Not very thick. Very mineral. Keeps carrying the initial fruitiness.

I get this feeling of half relaxation and half restlessness. Maybe relaxation is 60%

5
More grassy-herbal notes appear, slight harshness. Drying. Less intensity.

6
Harshness keeps increasing but it maintains a memory of more innocent first infusions. I think of an innocent girl that few years later ends up being a prostitute.

My head feels heavy, it’s a nice feeling I guess. My body feels calmer now.

7
Something is changing, I get an alcoholic feeling, like soured bellini.
The liquor is weak. My body starts protesting for having too much tea.

8
Harsh but low toned dirty mushrooms kingdom. Not very sweet anymore.

Overall the tea is not the most powerful or long lasting but anyway it’s a very pleasurable experience.

The first times I had this tea I wasn’t impressed. Now this is the last bit of my sample and it became suddenly delicious. Is it because I’m more concentrated on writing a review? It’s the weather? It’s the silence of this room, the absence of sensorial stimulus? It’s because I’ve been cycling a lot and my body needs nutrients and everything taste better? Or maybe because I know this is my last session with this tea?

Very sweet, touch of smoke. Peach plus something deep and earthy.
Pale yellow, sweet, sour. Cooling feeling. Saliva. The first cup immediately makes my head feel heavy and my brain slips into a floating tank.

At the initial steeps the leaves smell really comforting, I get vanilla, high-pitched greenness, some pungency.
The liquor is thick, mouth coating, and leaves a lingering saliva-inducing sweet/sour taste all around the mouth and some light tingling feeling in the throat. This aftertaste evolves and changes to ripened grapes. My mouth feels cold.

Then hay, candies, white grapes, some fermentation smell. This tea doesn’t feel more than 2 years old. Maybe I’m wrong.

As I keep going it gets really thick, sweet and pungent. The aftertaste rises from the throat. My body is relaxed and tense at the same time, my head is floating. I’m trying to understand the differences on “qi”, but, for now, the teas I try make me feel in a similar way. I keep observing.
As I’m typing this the huigan keeps going as if I just ate some white grapes and in the act of swallowing them they got stuck in my throat.

I get a “clay” aroma from the leaves, the liquor keeps pushing and being less thick, more spicy and cooling. After 6 steeps start I start feeling a more pronounced bitterness/astringency, but still enjoyable.

The leaves start smelling like sweet vanilla. The soup thins out, keeping an enjoyable cooling and sweet profile.

I’m thinking it would be cool to drink puerh in reverse. Like starting from the later infusions and going backwards. This because in a session one’s get slowly saturated with tea, and maybe the later steeps are often less appreciated (?).

Anyway, I like this tea. Looking forward to try many more.

I haven’t tried so many semi-aged sheng but this is so far my favourite.
No camphor, no medicinal flavour. Very complex bouquet like a jurassic forest.
Plums, wood, leather. Very fruity. Tobacco.
Turns into something purple. There’s a reason why this tea’s wrapper is purple. Medium thickness, cooling sensation. No smokiness.

Starts tightly packed, and then opens up to a more sour high pitched variety of flavours.
Chestnut honey, green pepper, cherry. Very elegant little bitterness and astringency. Aftertaste coats mouth and throat very evenly. Cooling sensation. I feel lightheaded, in a gentle way. Great dynamicity.

This tea is sold out. I never thought of spending 120£ for a tea, but if this was still available I would have considered that.

Flavors: Cherry, Chestnut, Forest Floor, Fruity, Honey, Leather, Tobacco, Violet, Wet Wood
