818 Tasting Notes
Enjoyed a cup of this with breakfast. I think I’m going to resteep the leaves because I only have 1 cup left now! This once grew on me a lot. I can’t get any more until the shutdown is over and I can go back to work (the closest DavidsTea store is near my office, which is a far commute from home). Fortunately, I do have a new pumpkin tea on its way to me from Butiki! Yay!
Speaking of pumpkin, I’m making a chocolate chip pumpkin bundt cake for our family reunion later today. Guess I better go make it!
Backlog from yesterday. I’ve tried this one a couple of times now, and I’m still not sure it tastes like persimmon. When they first put this out, it was advertised as a black tea, but when I got it, it was a rooibos. That was a little disappointing, because I definitely enjoy black teas more. I love persimmons though, so I was still looking forward to it. I usually eat the crunchy kind of persimmons in the fall. I think they’re called Fuyu. They taste like a very sweet combination of an apple and a pumpkin. I’ve never had dried persimmon, although I’ve seen them, and heard they are really sweet. So, this tea tastes fruity and sweet, but I can’t tell if it’s persimmon flavor or not. I’m thinking I’ll try some again once I can pick up some persimmons from the farmer’s market and see how they compare.
After trying a cup of this from my coworker’s tin the other day, I ran out to TJ’s last night and picked up my own tin! It’s really nice to have these flavors in a noncaffeinated tea, so I can drink it at night. I also picked up some pumpkin cream cheese. I love how they have lots of pumpkin-flavored foods this time of year! The instructions on the tin say to steep it for 5-7 minutes, but I must warn you 2 minutes is plenty strong! I think I may resteep my little sachet too. :)
Sipdown of my “try me” sample. This was actually a pretty good little fall tea. I kind of neglected this cup a little because I decided to do some serious house cleaning today, but I still enjoyed it. Wouldn’t mind picking up some more of this one. I think I like that it’s a fall tea without the usual pumpkin, cinnamon, or apple pie flavors. It’s unique!
This was the first cup of the day for me, since I hadn’t had it in awhile. It was okay. I feel like something must be wrong with me because I’m not the biggest fan of Harney’s teas. I love Paris though. There are just so many companies out there with better flavors, I guess.
This tea is particularly delicious with some brown sugar. Just so you know. ;)
Oh, and I have a little rant about DavidsTea’s marketing. Did you guys see the latest, where they say winter’s coming, that the fall teas are going fast, so you better hurry and stock up? For goodness sake, it’s only early October! Geez!

Eventually, the Starks are right. ‘Just around the corner’ is one of my least favourite marketing phrases. If the winter teas aren’t for another month and a half, I hope they won’t run out.
Yeah I saw that and insantly panicked. Then I did the math. What they mean is “we’re halfway through fall and you guys didn’t buy enough, but we don’t want to actually give you a sale, so we’ll just panic you instead!”
I think I’d like a bit more of the cocoberry mate, but I could probably pass on the rest.

So, what do you do when you are furloughed due to the government shutdown? You invite coworkers over for tea!! That’s exactly what I did today. I made cinnamon pecan scones, tea sandwiches, and they brought lemon cookies and cheese muffins. Yum! One of my coworkers also brought some of this tea. The tea is in little sachets and it’s quite delicious! Really well blended spicy pumpkin rooibos. Would definitely drink that again. I may have to stop by Trader Joe’s. Not like I don’t have the time! :P
Almost gave this one away, since I had trouble getting it right, but decided at the last minute to give it another chance. I’m glad I did because I’m getting more into white teas, and today I figured out how I like it: steeped at the lowest recommended temperature for only 1 minute. This is definitely not one of those white teas you can steep at almost the same temperature as black teas. It’s more delicate. Ha!
I got a sample of this tea from DianaK. Ya, I’m going through them all right now! Thanks! This tea doesn’t appear on their website, but it looks like it’s a new tea based on their Facebook page. The dry leaf has little chocolate chips in it. It tastes almost like a chocolate dipped strawberry, but the chocolate flavor is milder than I would like. Overall, it’s a creamy strawberry black tea. Pretty nice!
