408 Tasting Notes
I’m sipping this one right now before leaving to pick up my daughter who is at a little girl friend’s home.
I think Sil sent me this sample few months ago, thank you Sil.
If I can get a vanilla taste, I mostly get an herbal taste.
It’s pleasant but strangely regarding the other reviews, I am not taken in heaven as I was with the Laoshan black.
I’ll retry with multiple resteeps to see how it work for me.
At the moment I retain my note but if I should give one now if would be 79-80.
I have the chance to taste this lovely tea thanks to TheTeaFairy
I waited ages before having it but here I am and I love it.
The scent of the liquor was appealing to me, the kind of smell I recognize as a tea I would surely like…something delicate and floral.
Tasting it, it is clearly a citrusy with floral notes straight tea.More on citrus notes to me.
It has a light astringency in mouth and on the aftertaste but the kind of pleasant astringency offering a real personality to a blend.
I am often reticent to drink Darjeelings because I often had some unpleasant astringency with the ones I have had. This one is absolutely different and makes me change my mind.
Thank you so much TheTeaFairy for sharing one of your favourite teas with me !
Preparation
Ysaurella – ill have to try this one as I think I’ve experienced the same thing you have with a lot of darjeelings. I’m actually having a Darjeeling day…well part of today will be darjeelings just to try the few that are in my cupboard I keep avoiding heh
Ha! So happy there was one in the bunch you really liked :-) The fact that I liked almost all the French teas you sent me made me feel guilty, lol! But I so don’t blame you, David’s tea and Mariage Frères just can’t compare! But I’m more confident in the other brands I sent, especially the plain ones such as this one!
don’t worry there are some I liked very much (but yes especially the unflavoured ones)
Moreover I am less attracted by flavoured teas now and for the flavoured I tend to really prefer European Blends to North American ones. And thanks to you I bought oriental beauty of BT after reading your review about an oriental beauty blend a friend offered you.
I like banana but I often hate anything manufactured with banana – I often don’t recognize the taste of the real fruit behind the overpowering “banana” flavour used. The only product made of banana I love is the Ben & Jerry’s Chunky Monkey ice cream.
So I requested a sample of this one to Stacy with my last Butiki Order and I’m really happy because the flavour is so natural, subtle.
I love keemuns and this is no exception here. The banana is lovely and very discrete maybe a little too much discrete regarding my expectations.
Regarding walnuts, I cannot detect them but I’ll follow Terri’s advice to brew the blend an extra minute to see if I get much banana and walnut this way.
Keemun and banana really pair very well together.
I decided to make my first banana bread to eat with this tea and I’m surprised it is a success ! We don’t eat banana bread here except in american restaurants and I was afraid to have a too “dry” cake so I made the Rose Bakery’s version (a famous brunch’s place in Paris),with buttermilk and I’m in love as my cat is…he has already eaten half a piece ! Maybe I should propose him a cup of tea to pair with…
Thank you Stacy for this sample.
Preparation
I made a carrot cake as well because my daughter loves this cake :)
we are going to take 50 kg in a week !

I ordered 1/2 oz of oriental beauty as I wanted to test it before getting more.
This is TheTeaFairy’s note about it which made me want to try an oriental beauty tea and thanks for that, I’m seduced.
I am particularly happy with BT straight teas because until now I loved them all and this one is not an exception.
I adore how the honey notes and the fruity ones pairing so well together. I recognize some apricot (and I love so much apricot).
I should say that if all straight teas were the kind of this one ,PTA or TWM I would declare and shout on the roofs I definitively prefer straight teas to flavoured.
It may be my first step before passing on the other side of the tea mirror.
Preparation
Which tea can be better to sum up my day ? Like Marie-Antoinette, I feel like someone just cut my head ! And this is my boss (my N+1 as we have to say when we want to be taken seriously at work)
The company supposed to absorbe the one I am working for, has now some serious accounting difficulties meaning they probably will give up the activity represented by my company…fantastic…I’ve been told that they may, pershaps, manage to integrate my contract in the new company but not sure and “if I was considering to find another job they won’t hold a grudge towards me”…
My collegue won’t be reconducted and another one will probably be fired.
So even if I am trying not to repeat myself since almost 2 years that I made the worst mistake of my profesionnal life when I resigned from my previous job…I think I really have repeated this to myself 588 times since this afternoon.
But I am thinking too I probably won’t have to have 3 to 4 hours per day of train, subway, bus anymore…and won’t suffer anymore of the lack of ressources to do properly my job as I won’t have a job :)
Marie-Antoinette is a really pleasant tea with apples and roses, 2 flavours I appreciate a lot. I like the little astringency I get on the aftertaste and the strong tea base here.
This is loose leaf I get from my mom.
I really like it even if I am not very good tonight at expressing this.
I’ll do a better note soon.
At the moment I feel like a crazy Marie-Antoinette who somehow decapited herself by making a bad choice at a bad moment 2 years ago.
Preparation
Wow! I hope things work out for you! And yes, at least you may be able to find a job with a better commute! That’s a good way of looking at things! :-)
I’m glad you got to try this tea! Sorry to hear about the work issues, but a bet there is something even better in store for you! Hang in there, and don’t lose your head! (sorry…I just had to say that…lol)
thank you KS, yes I thought about you while typing this note, I remember how you were several months ago
Hopefully things happen for a reason and you’ll find something much better for you if the worst you anticipate does happen. Hang in there.
I feel a little guilty about clicking ‘Like this’ – not really appropriate – there should be a ‘Sympathise with this’ button. My sympathies, Ysaurella.
Thanks to Laurent and Mélanie from Nina’s I can taste this lovely named tea.
Irony is there : I wanted to buy the homonymous tea from Theodor and it was out of stock so here I am to taste another je t’aime proving if necessary that we can have several loves and say je t’aime to several teas (even in the same day, even in the same hour !)
Well I am not finding it strong (but it’s not weak, neither light bodied)and I am not sure if the stronger taste with this this cup is coming from the base… Laurent would you reveal us a Nina’s secret and tell us what kind of tea base is used here – It’s written Keemun on my sachet as the other teas I had from Nina’s but I am wondering …
I steeped it 4 min and it was nice, not bitterness nor astringency, until now I never had a Nina’s bitter even if I never respected the brewing instructions as with 2 minutes I found them too light for my taste.
The flavours are just perfect, delicate as always with this lovely brand but this time I think the tea base is working really better for me with these flavours.
Another caramel chocolate tea I like.
I went to the shop rue Danielle Casanova 1 week ago and it was still closed for work, I would love to take a friend of mine to have a brunch here, let’s wait so…
Preparation
I had this one this morning while running to get prepared to go to work.I’m trying to have it quite often to finish my tin because I rebought my dear Earl Grey French Blue which is my favourite EG.
I have the same opinion even if I steep it with a lower temperature and not too long : this is a great tea (so wonderful quality and perfectly blended)but probably not for me, too heavy on lavender and lavender is not my favourite flower. This is just absolutely not soapy it’s just too much lavender for my taste, I would have preferred a lighter one.
But I cannot be unfair with Theodor, this is the same with writers, they decide to take an angle of observation or a kind of narration and that’s IT, this is their beginning point, this is their work, their masterpiece and we just need to respect that.
Mademoiselle is clearly a fantastic tea I highly respect, I appreciate to drink but I probably won’t rebuy it.
Preparation
Lavender & I are not exactly friends. I think, like you, I like it but not a lot of it. Maybe this tea would make a good infused liquid to make muffins or bread with? Though it is probably too expensive to bake with I’m guessing. :)
Stacy so kindly added this sample to my order.
I’ve been distracted this morning because we had no electricity this morning, general problem with half the town.I was so upset I cannot have my tea (everything is electrical in my flat)
it finally was fixed at noon and I rushed to my kettle.
I rushed too fast and I stupidely put boiling water on the leaves and immediately saw on the sample bag that it was supposed to be 160°F ooooouuuuupssss I immediately poured cold water in addition in my infusing mug.
So I was suspicious about the result of my mistake but it is really yummy.
I got a pleasant tea base, mellow, low on tannins, medium bodied and a suttle a very delicate flavour of blueberry.
It was my first purple tea and as it is a flavoured one I cannot say much about purple tea but I really enjoy this tea and the base wasn’t astringent at all to me.
I am still enjoying it with my blueberry muffins even if it’s 1 PM here.
Preparation
Hummmm I am sipping this one actually while enjoying the wild blueberry muffins I prepared to pair with.
I regret I didn’t manage to find out fresh blueberries for my muffins but it’s always complicated so I decided to take frozen blueberries.
These Muffins are some kind of survivors because I have experienced problems with my oven and mould :S
My muffin silicon mould just folded and half the preparation slipped to the bottom of the oven – we had smoke everywhere in the kitchen and I was asked if I was trying to invent some kind of domestical gas chamber… !
Finally I saved the rest of my preparation ans made a second one (to get full swollen muffins !)
This morning I’m happy to see they finally are good !
For one time I prepared a full teapot of Myrtille Sauvage. I normally always use a mug.
This is really yummy. So smooth, mellow and I get a so natural blueberry : Sure I’ll manage to finish the full teapot !
yes it was my fault because I stupidely put the silicon mould on the oven grid and not on the plate … I not far to think I prefer classic metallic moulds even if more complicated to remove the muffins.
Oh no! I hate when things spill in the oven. I have always been nervous of those silicone molds. I have stoneware and metallic ones that I use a lot.
I bought Jamaïque 1 month ago when the weather was so hot : 37°c and the Mariage Salesman told me he was wondering HOW I can pick up and choice this tea (flavoured Vanilla and rum) by such a weather :)
I haven’t had it since today and I didn’t have paid attention to the tea description and left it steep for 2 minutes >>>>O_O<<<< ohohohohohoho lucky me ! it is almost bitter ! this is surely an Assam…the kind of used with Wedding Impérial…the capricious to brew !!!
Cooling the little bitterness disappeared and I have a pleasant cup, robust with a creamy and delightful vanilla and of course, in a supportive role only RUM.
That’s delicious, I’m waiting forward to try tomorrow with 1 minute and a half brewing time , I’m sure it would be absolutely perfect.
I’m so happy MF used such an high personnalitea base for its Jamaïque.
I hope now the rum contained here would just kill the unglorious mosquitos who are driving me mad since 2 weeks now ! My legs, my arms are just a battlefield and I’m losing this war.
We often say in French : ce n’est pas la petite bête qui va manger la grosse (it’s not the small beast who is going to eat the big one- meaning it’s more scared of you than you are of it) in my case the small ones are really eating me, help me rum !!!
Preparation
Poor you, I so hate mosquitoes.
(stupid advice, but keep all windows shut at night and ever ever light a light in a room or house where windows are open at night. Mosquitoes attack all lights using half the speed of light. But I guess everybody knows that)
Have you ever tried tea tree oil? or citronella oil? Not so nice smelling, but they work a bit.
Alaudacorax :as French I love garlic but surely bizarre in a tea :)
Teresa I love to sleep with windows wide opened to refresh the flat so…it’s my punishment, I need to buy citronella oil, I had this when I was a child
i prefer laoshan black as well – so glad that there are so many teas out there for everyone to enjoy!
