On our trip to Budapest this was the shop I was looking forward to the most and it is my absolute favorite one! We spend more than four hours there and even this time wasn’t enough. Tamás who is working their is someone you immediately connect with if your passion with tea is as strong as his. This place was so small but so cozy and massively filled with such great teaware and especially Pu-erh. This was the place I bought most of my stuff on my visit to Budapest. Their range of Pu is breathtaking. Even for such a small space and even after 4 hours you still haven’t discovered everything they have. This is my absolute highest recommendation I could give! Amazing place!
I freakin love Zhao Zhou! Finally within Winter 2017 I was able to visit Gabor and its amazing Teahouse. Already the unique location is a conversation starter. You felt immediately welcomed and we were drinking a couple of teas their enjoying our time. Highly recommendable!
Budapest is one of the greatest places in Europe when it comes to amazing teahouses especially if you are on the search for Pu-erh. This was the last Shop on my list and their range of Tea and Teaware was breathtaking. The only reason why I gave it four stars instead of five was the feeling we got inside the shop. For us we really didn’t feel welcome at all. It was nearly a feeling of being an alien element in their personal universe. I tried to ignore it and bought a lot of Pu anyways. It is definitely worth a visit because you could spend a whole day in there – even if you do not feel welcomed :D
This place is maybe the most traditional and authentic tea place you can find in Vienna. They just focus on Japanese tea and teaware but in this field they do everything right! You can find an amazing range of young fresh Shincha, Sencha from many different regions, Gyokuro and Matcha, Bancha etc. The whole stuff is Japanese or half Japanese and very skilled and friendly. Ordering tea is a sensation of its own. Tetsubin and small tea snacks included. Talking about snacks one of the other major thing about this teahouse is their deliciously offer of Onigiri with different flavors ~ everything house made. Most of the time the place is very crowded so it would be wise to be there in the very moment the open up the teahouse :)
The actual atmosphere would be quite nice and also the offering of tea is “Okay” – but that’s it in the end. The woman who is in charge of this place doesn’t like her customers and does not make a secret out of the fact that she wants to be left alone. Sometimes it can happen that she finds a way to be at least a bit friendly if she notices that you know about tea. But new customers = there is the door! You really do not feel welcomed. Normally if you love tea you also share the tea spirit and I find it kind of sad that someone who pretend to love tea and tea culture isn’t showing any effort sharing this love for such a wonderful passion with others!
Another thing is that she only got her teas and those are more or less the same since I know this place but she does not want to improve. For me and most of the real tea lovers = Tea is a never ending journey. You always learn something new and be curious all the time because you love it so much. But as I talked with her she does not share this opinion. For her it Okay like it is. I find it kind of sad to own such a great place with so much potential but ruin it with the attitude towards tea and those who loves it or are at the beginning to fell in love with it.
Just mid-class or low-class tea. Not very passionate staff and also do not have a hunch what they are doing. Brewing every tea to its death.
