13 Tasting Notes
I had this tea at Matcha Box, a pop-store run by Matcha Source owner Alissa White. The tea itself was a bit more bitter than some of the thick ceremonial grade matchas I have tasted over the years, but I can appreciate that. The bitterness actually provides additional immune functions, and if I had my sweet while drinking (as is traditional), it would’ve been greatly reduced. Either way, you must try this tea if you are a matcha enthusiast. If you are in NYC, stop by Matcha Box (33 Crosby St, b/w Grand & Broome)…but hurry, it closes at the end of June (1 month only)!
Preparation
So I came back to Matcha Box for round two of Kama Matcha. They let the water cool a little bit (too hot and you wilt the leaves, even though it’s in powder form) and I snacked on a matcha shortbread cookie (enjoying a sweet brings out the natural sweetness of matcha, and changes the flavor profile).
Long story short, the 2nd round was delicious! My rating is changing as a result :)
I am a lover of Lapsang Souchong, and of Taylors of Harrogate in general. This tea is pretty good. I don’t particularly love fannings in my tea bag, which this is, but there is a nice smokiness to this tea. I used two tea bags , covered while steeping, added a tablespoon of agave, no milk, and some ice cubes to drink it faster (I am a baby with excessive heat). I’m satisfied with how this came out.
