1908 Tasting Notes

I had been wanting to try Simpson & Vail for many years and just never got around to it. Since they released an advent this year, I decided it was time and placed an order for that, along with a gift and a few other teas.

This smells absolutely amazing. Like honey coated lilacs. It tastes lovely too. Really strong honey and lilac flavors. Really impressed with this, especially for the cost.

Flavors: Honey, Honeysuckle, Lilac

Sipdown 68 – 2024

Really enjoyed this. Drank hot, but would probably be really tasty iced. Tastes like roasted seaweed. Really savory, lots of umami.

Sipdown 67 -2024

Really enjoyed this and will probably repurchase at some point. Mostly creamy caramel and candied orange. I didn’t get any rosemary.

This is fine. Generic red fruit black tea. Probably wouldn’t purchase again.

But, realized this has catnip in it. One of my cats absolutely lost her mind trying to steal the used teabag and stick her head into my brewed cup.

My cats are always trying to steal my mint teas, I guess since they’re close enough to catnip?

amandastory516

Yes! I had a cat growing up that would break into the cupboards to steal peppermint teabags.

hah! That tea should definitely come with a warning for cat people! Also, maybe those other “mint” teas that cats were interested in were really secretly catnip?

amandastory516

Honestly they could have had catnip in them!

Super tasty! The marshmallow is really subtle, and the strawberry has a nice balance of tangy and sweet. Very easy to drink.

This is just okay. Not getting any apple. Slightly caramelly, with some licorice in the background.

This is a really lovely pumpkin chai blend. Nice balance of spices, with a really nice level of squashiness. I like the touch of orange rind as well.

Decided to purchase a couple of the Piper & Leaf samplers- they have so many unique sounding blends and I couldn’t resist trying them.
This is not a flavor profile I usually like in tea. Particularly the chocolate, which is more often than not painfully artificial tasting. This was a pleasant surprise though! The chocolate was not plasticy or artificial at all, and the mix of berries was a nice compliment. Can definitely taste the most strawberry, with a touch of raspberry.

This is such an interesting blend. Tastes like a redwood forest. A smoky redwood forest. Slightly fruity, but mostly quite earthy. Not an everyday kind of blend, but definitely something unique to have occasionally.

Flavors: Cedar, Pine, Smoke

I know I’m in the minority with this blend, but I still really like it. The clove and rose are both so strong, but I like the combination. I enjoy drinking it around Halloween time, but once I finish off this bag, I don’t know that I need to repurchase it anytime soon.

Flavors: Clove, Perfume, Rose
