1800 Tasting Notes
Made this as an iced latte with a new “barista blend” pea protein milk, sweetened with brown sugar. I love oat milk, but I couldn’t seem to finish a carton quickly enough. So, I found this pea protein milk that is in smaller containers and is shelf-stable until opened. It’s an excellent replacement for oat milk in lattes! Very neutral tasting, which is just what I was looking for.
As for the tea, it’s very tasty as a latte, and the brown sugar complimented it well.
There’s something reminiscent of a bug bitten quality- syrupy sweet honey, mostly in the flavor. There is a bit of a woodiness (like an oak tree after it rained) in the flavor. But, the aroma is extremely off-putting for me. Like boiled vegetables that sat out for a couple of hours. Subsequent steeps yield for of a chocolatey aroma, but the vegetables scent is still there. Definitely an odd experience, but the most intrigued I’ve been by a tea in a bit.
Cold brewed this overnight. My memory of the sweet marmalade blend sounded really refreshing. This batch turned out quite a bit more bitter than I remember it being. Much more like an orange rind than like orange marmalade. Still okay, but I don’t feel like I will need to restock this one when I’m out.
Jasmine teas were my favorite for a very long time. Before I really had any idea about the world of tea, I knew I loved the flavor and aroma of jasmine. Perhaps I got sick of the flavor, because up until last week, I just didn’t enjoy jasmine like I used to. Now, I’m on a jasmine kick again. I started making iced jasmine green tea bobas at home, and they have been really hitting the spot. I’ve started enjoying jasmine quite a bit again.
This is incredibly fragrant and flavorful. The honey and cooked fruit aroma combined with the jasmine is intoxicating. There is a bit of an acid finish that makes this short of perfect. Still enjoyable though!
Oatly is the only brand I’ve found that I like in tea. Not sure which you like, but they make a small carton of their barista blend. I think it’s 11 oz.
I usually use Oatly or Planet Oat…I didn’t realize Oatly came in smaller cartons, thank you for letting me know!
You’re welcome! I’ve found the smaller ones on Amazon and they are shelf-stable. I keep my pantry stocked with the barista blend and the chocolate milk. It’s so good.
