Another new tea from Vitacost! You can call me the Tulsi Mama!

I steeped this for around 5 minutes or so – it has a nice minty clove flavor from the tulsi. I’m not sure what the gotu kola is contributing here, but it is supposed to be a good herb for memory.

I am enjoying the flavor combination here, nice and mellow. I wish I had some of this yesterday… it’s so calming. :)

drank Morning Sun by Mandala Tea
2816 tasting notes

It’s cloudy this morning and I did not sleep a wink last night, but must somehow get it together to go to work and toil away on a big, complicated project.

Thanks to Mandala tea, I have my own Morning Sun today. :)

The wise man J. Krishnamurti once said, “One has to be a light to oneself”

Trying to stay positive and keeping on! what else can you do?

Thanks to all my Steepster friends for the supportive thoughts, it really means a lot to me.

Bonnie

You have some candles here too.

ScottTeaMan

Your welcome.

TeaBrat

Bonnie, you are awesome! Scott too! :D

Missy

I’m glad you are trying to stay positive. It can be pretty difficult especially in your type of situation. I’ll be your personal cheer squad as long as I don’t have to use pom poms. ;)

Doug F

Hopefully, the big, complicated project will take your mind off things. I’ve found that just getting out of bed and maintaining the routine can be the best medicine. Best wishes!

Scott B

Time moves so much faster when you are busy, that should help.

Azzrian

I need to get this in my next mandala order! It didn’t make the cut last time I ordered as I had to skim back but I really want to try it soon!

TeaBrat

Azzrian – I am planning out my next order from them soon, just waiting for payday! :)

Azzrian

Oh they have so much goodness to choose from! :)
I am getting a water treatment system on payday for sure!

ashmanra

I mailed you some tea this morning! You are a beautiful person. May happiness alight in your heart soon! :)

TeaBrat

Thank you ashmanra – right back at ya!

Cheryl

Oh gosh, sorry I missed your news Amy. But I have a feeling you are going to be fine and stronger when the sting/punch wears off some. Hang in there chicka, we all know you can :)

TeaBrat

Cheryl, thanks, It’s sad but I will be ok. ;-)

Bonnie

Tea people are like those fairy godmothers flying around you in Cinderella! (I think I have the right movie …) you get the picture though …

Mike G

Just read over your last note, sorry to hear what happened :(. But like you said, stay positive :)!

TeaBrat

Hi Mike – ayep, will do! thanks.

I’m not in a great mood today because it looks like the BF and I have broken up for good, I am feeling very sad but I think it is actually for the best if we just go our separate ways.

I have noticed one thing I enjoy about tea is the ability it has to ground me and provide me with something pleasant to look forward to. I’m revisiting this sample today and it is very light and pleasant. Somehow I am not feeling much bitterness in this tea, only a light floral taste with a hint of coconut.

Ajahn Chah has written a book called “Everything Arises, Everything Falls Away: Teachings on Impermanence and the End of Suffering”. It was a great book that got me through my divorce so I think I will spend some time reading it today and try to do some quiet things.

I might need to get more of this tea, just for helping me out through a painful time. ;)

Will Work For Tea

Sorry to hear that – break ups are always hard, even if they are for the best. Chin up!

Scott B

Very sorry to hear that. I hope you are feeling better soon.

You know, I was listening to some songs entitled “4th of July” today and they are all depressing. Strange.

TeaBrat

Thank you…

ashmanra

I will be thinking of you…things will be better soon!

gmathis

Simple things are very comforting when your heart hurts. Take care of yourself.

Bonnie

I am sorry too. As one who is alone and has been so, tea is a good friend and so are all of us here. PM anytime you want to!

TeaBrat

Thanks bonnie!

Missy

Oh no. I am sorry to hear that. hugs to you.

Joshua Smith

I’m really sorry to hear that you’re spending your day like this. I hope the tea helped. You can PM if you need to talk/rant. It might take a few hours, but I’ll get back to you ASAP.

Azzrian

Scott B – my daughter works for a country radio station – this station today is playing all the music for our Spirit of the 4th Festival going on at the lake. My daughter runs the sound board for this. Today ALL the music IS in fact VERY depressing! What the heck??

Amy – I am so sorry to hear this but your right it is probably for the best. You now have the future wide open for a much better one!

Indigobloom

oh dear I’m so sorry Amy. Breakups are rough no matter how they happen. hugs!

TheTeaFairy

you seem like such a nice person Amy, happiness is right on the corner for you, I’m sure
:-)

TeaBrat

thanks everyone…

Kittenna

Sorry to hear that Amy :( Not a good way to spend a holiday.

TeaBrat

Thanks Kittenna! I’ll try to cheer up soon.

I hope the best for you. Life is full is twists and turns and it’s not always pleasant. We are all here for you….

drank Irish Breakfast by Twinings
2816 tasting notes

Happy 4th of July, U.S. Steepsters!!!

Tea of the morning here (in teabag form). Not at home again and the BF picked it out. Still, it’s pretty good even for a teabag. Some nice malty notes provided by the assam, while the ceylon lends a bit of brightness. It’s good with a splash of soymilk but I did not feel the need to add sugar to it. This used to be a cupboard staple for me before I got into highfalutin teas. Still, I might buy more someday if I could manage to clear the space in my cupboards. :)

gmathis

I believe this is my favorite Twinings of all.

Missy

Happy 4th back at you! :D

ashmanra

I always have this one on hand. My daughter’s boyfriend sent me some from Northern Ireland, where it is packaged simply as Assam. It is the same assortment box as here, though. I think only Bewley’s refers to their tea as Irish Breakfast or Afternoon, otherwise it just tea! :D

Azzrian

Happy Independence Day!

ScottTeaMan

I thought this was pretty good cold brewed too! :))

Finishing off the rest of this sample today. I learned if you oversteep this, it is truly terrible. I got a second steep out of the leaves which I am enjoying a lot…

I thought about trying this, but Russel said it shared some of the flavor profile of Chinese Flower, which I thought I would adore but wasn’t crazy about. He recommended another, and I am glad he did. Glad you like it, though! Have you tried Chinese Flower?

TeaBrat

I have not tried the Chinese Flower.

ashmanra

Ha-hah, but soon you shall! I STILL haven’t mailed your Ruby 18! LOL! I will get both in the mail on Thursday!

TeaBrat

Aww. you’re so good to me. :)

ScottTeaMan

I would imagine the lemon [or even lime], would be good with gunpowder.

Fiddling

You’re so right! I oversteeped it the first time and it was TERRIBLE. I’m drinking the second steeping of it right now, and it is soooo much better. I can’t believe this is the same tea!

drank Tulsi Green Tea by Organic India
2816 tasting notes

Anyone who reads my tea log knows I’m a fan of tulsi! I ordered some stuff from Vitacost recently and decided to throw this in the mix. I know I could just add tulsi to my green tea, but I thought this would be good to have around the office (note: I got the loose leaf tin).

The instructions say steep 3-5 minutes in boiling water, but I was skeptical so I went for a slightly lower temp.

This is really nice! Might be my favorite from Organic India thus far. After inspecting the wet leaf, I would say there is more tulsi than green tea in here. You definitely get the distinctive flavor of minty/clove from the tulsi but there also seems to be a lemony element in here. I’m not sure what the green tea is, certainly it’s nothing fancy but it does mellow out the flavor of tulsi a bit and provides a nice vegetal element. It’s a good blend, simple but effective. The only caveat is the tulsi leaves are ground up very fine and it got kind of messy in the infuser and the sink.

Tulsi always helps me to relax – and I bet this would be really good iced also, will have to try it that way someday…

200 °F / 93 °C

hmm, well I don’t know about that but they are a much cheaper place to get herbs than Whole foods…

ScottTeaMan

Good call on the lower temp & the cold brew. :))

Sample of the morning from Upton Tea Imports. :)

I may have steeped this for too long, I kinda lost track of time. I was just reading the other’s tasting notes and a few have remarked how it smells and tastes like darjeeling, honestly I am not picking that up here…

It’s a very strong black tea, I suspect it’s a keemun blend with some ceylon in it, perhaps. There’s a very faint bit of smoke in here. I was able to drink it plain but I also found the flavor to be flat and muddy (and that is how I feel about keemuns in general), so a bit of soymilk perked it right up and made it better. I still don’t taste any darjeeling but if I do a shorter steep, that may become more prominent. Luckily I have enough of the sample for a few more cups.

This is a good morning time tea, dark and strong but I prefer the Russian Country from Harney and Sons.

I ordered this and many other samples last night….

TeaBrat

cool – I look forward to your reviews. :)

Autumn Hearth

Made a pot of this Sunday morning for breakfast with the boys (been a long time since I made a pot). Husband actually thought it was light! I found it less bitey than previously and could almost see what he was saying, there was some floral notes. I definitely got the Formosa, which can have some similar winey notes to Darjeeling, it doesn’t really have the stout brashness Assam can have, which is why some may suspect the India tea listed is Darjeeling. You are probably right about the Keemun, but it doesn’t say Ceylon or Sri Lanka, so again I would suspect the Formosa is morphing itself. I would like to explore more smokey Russian blends when the weather turns.

TeaBrat

Autumn – how long did you steep yours for? I didn’t think it was light at all but I was thinking I would try it at a 2 or 3 minute steep.

ScottTeaMan

Many Russian Cravan teas use Keemun teas. Amy…….why do you prefer the Russian Country from H & S?? I feel I’ve asked you this before…….

TeaBrat

The H&S tea is sweeter and it also as lapsang in it. I enjoy lapsang blends.

drank Organic Guranse by Butiki Teas
2816 tasting notes

Thanks to Mercuryhime for this sample! I was a little confused as to what a Guranse was until I read Bonnie’s tasting note a few days ago and then I knew I needed to try it. Teas from Nepal and Darjeeling are among my favorites!

I steeped this for 3 minutes in my tetsubin — I still haven’t found anything to replace the glass teapot I broke. One thing you can say for cast iron is it’s very durable and will stand up to a spaz like me.

I’m getting a medium orange liquor which is very mellow and smooth. I can definitely sense the malt and a hint of tobacco but there is a delightful fruitiness present as well, lots of peaches! The flavor is mostly sweet with a tiny bit of astringency at the end, but nothing too bothersome. I’m sipping on this plain and it’s yummy, but it could also accommodate a pinch of sugar, if you prefer. I think milk would ruin the delicate flavor here.

I certainly wouldn’t mind having this tea around but I have quite a backlog from the region already. :)

Yes a little sweet enhances the peach ..and yes to the no milk. I didn’t get astringency.Maybe I steeped shorter.

ScottTeaMan

Spaz…….:D

Bonnie

Not nice Scott cuz as soon as you say spaz….you’re gonna break 2 things yourself! (Thats the way it works!) Hahaha!

drank Oolong by Market Village
2816 tasting notes

Trying to drink some more of my samples – wish me luck. :D

I received this mysterious oolong from Indigobloom – hmm. What kind of an oolong is it and where does it come from? It looks to be a tieguanyin of some sort. I guess we’ll never know…

For an inexpensive price, this is a decent cup of tea. smells fresh and aromatic after steeping. I got a yellowish tea liquor that seems a bit nutty, also with a floral element.

Second steep is similar to the first. I am getting a whiff of an aroma which makes me think this tea is partially roasted. I am picking up a bit of peachy element in here. It’s fairly pleasant overall but seems to be missing that WOW factor that I am always looking for in an oolong.

I think I’ll try cold brewing the rest of it overnight to see what happens. Thanks for the sample, IB! I appreciate you sharing with me.

drank Sun and Cloud Mist by 52teas
2816 tasting notes

I almost didn’t buy this because of the goofy cat, but I like green teas and adore lemony flavored things so I finally gave in. Shipping was very fast (Thank you, Frank) and I decided to steep some of this up after lunch.

It definitely smells lemony in the package and then after I smell the wet leaf, I’m thinking, “Huh, this really does smell like lemon pound cake.”

I’m liking this as it cools down. I don’t know if it tastes like lemon pound cake to me, but it is yummy. I am thinking it is more like a lemon tart. I like the green tea base here, which is very light and soft and really allows the lemon yumminess to shine through. To me, it smells more marshmallow-y than it tastes, but I like it nonetheless! Compared to the lemon cardamom chun mee, it’s not as zesty, it’s definitely on the softer side. I am going to have to try this with a little soymilk added, I bet it would also be really good iced.

When I’ve had cloud mist teas on their own they seem a little boring, but it works well as the base for this.

Frank you are terrific with these lemon blends. I will enjoy this with no problem. :)

Ha – no. A kitten floating in the clouds on a bed of marshmallows? How dorky can you get? :)

Embrace the dork in you!

Like it isn’t dorky enough posting tea reviews on Steepster? :-P
