drank Awake English Breakfast by Tazo
2956 tasting notes

This is a pretty standard English Breakfast. It is a bit strong for me, I found it a bit bitter and overly tannic, but I think milk would have mellowed it out a bit. This would be a good blend for those who like strong/tannic black teas or need a lot of caffeine, but it isn’t my personal favourite.

Flavors: Bitter, Tannic, Tannin

drank Vanilla Rooibos Parfait by Tazo

Absolutely deliciously creamy and sweet. I think this blend is very calming and great in the morning or after dinner. It is like a dessert (but without the guilt.) I found it very rooibos-y with hints of wood and caramelized marshmallows, which make it sweet but not in a fruity way.

Flavors: Caramel, Irish Cream, Rooibos, Sweet, Toasted, Vanilla, Wood

Someone gave me a sample of this and I knew I would not like it. Some of the main ingredients are hibiscus, rose hips, lemon, and citric acid. I literally dunked my tea bag into the water and took it out (less than 2 second steep) and my whole cup was pink. It tasted like drinking straight hibiscus or rose hip tea. Super bitter, sour, and acidic. I keep trying but I will always hate hibiscus and sour teas, even iced with sugar.

I’m glad other can enjoy blends such as this, but I find it extremely unpleasant and undrinkable. The sour overpowers the fruity and herbal flavours underneath and makes it undrinkable to me. :(

I do like the vibrant magenta colour though.

I initially thought I may have found the perfect every day green tea because I didn’t taste any hint of bitterness or astringency, but after a few sips I found it to be quite drying and astringent, with a bit of tang. No pear/fruity taste at all, but I liked the green tea taste. It was flavourful but not vegetal/plant stem flavoured like so many green teas are. Overall I wish it had pear flavour but I liked the taste of the green tea base (other than the drying sensation.)

I had this with milk and brown sugar and it was delicious. Very smooth and flavourful (mostly because I never took the teabag out.) One teabag did a large mug of tea and brewed quite strong, which I think is pretty good for a tea bag. I could taste bergamot and dried orange peel, which were both pleasant. Overall it blended well and tasted strong but very smooth.

drank Coconut Ice by DAVIDsTEA

Every time I make this tea it just tastes soapy and gross. I added a bit of Monk’s Blend from Granville Tea Company in the hopes it might smooth out the coconut taste, but with no avail. I added milk to make it drinkable. I love coconut but this tea is just unpleasant most of the time.

Bio

I am a biochem major hoping for a career in research genetics and evolutionary biology. I love science fiction and spend too much of my time reading comic books. I’m a passionate keeper of spiders, cacti, and exotic plants. I eat a vegan, plant-based diet for moral and environmental reasons (I mention this only because it is relevant to which flavoured teas I drink).

I drink mostly flavoured and low caffeine teas/tisanes, but I will try anything twice. As far as pure teas go, I gravitate towards whites, yellows, and jade oolongs. I’m always open for trades and sample sales/exchanges. Message me any time :)

My cupboard is mostly up to date. For a more comprehensive list, see my stash spreadsheet here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-HjWKR3um-xEnj6HC9vMvKXOAyj_bpW5u_2ixEC20-k/edit?usp=sharing
