A dear friend came over today for tea. She has been buying Harney and Sons Hot Cinnamon Spice at Barnes and Noble for years. About a year ago I introduced her to some of their other teas, and she now orders with me regularly from them.
Today I wanted to introduce her to some new teas as she is just beginning to venture into new teas, having previously had nothing but black tea, flavored and blends. I chose teas that we would like without sweeteners as she has diabetes. She enjoyed Golden Monkey, but I wanted her to try something cold as well since we have such long, hot, humid summers.
I made this tea hot and let it cool before placing it in the refrigerator. This one was just barely sweetened. The whole pitcher had only about two tablespoons of sugar in it. She took a sip and wrapped her hands covetously around the glass, declaring that this was the best iced tea she had ever tasted! Like most of us here in the South, she knew and loved the super sweet iced tea we all used to serve year ’round but has given that up.
Of course, she wants to order some. It makes me very happy to find tea for people, and I particularly enjoy showing my friends who have blood sugar issues how delicious tea can be without any sweetener at all. I know it would be desperately hard for me to give up sugar in other things, and I am so glad a couple of friends inspired me to go mostly sugar free with my tea!
