I really want to learn to like assam teas. I read the reviews about how wonderful and malty they are and I want to join in, but so far Chinese black camellia sinensis teas are still my favorites! Even Chinese camellia assamicas do not thrill me the same way.
But I do enjoy Irish Breakfast blends, and this one happens to be 100% assam. I take it with milk and sugar ALWAYS. Why do assam teas make me rumbly in my tumbly when Chinese teas do not?

Those Assams need soooo much milk and sugar and then they are good. But if I started the AM every day w/an Assam- my calorie budget would not like it..
I agree with Lori – milk ’n sugar = a tasty assam. I think they are too rough for plain drinking, but taste soooo good with milk and sugar! Also some of them are even too bold to take to 4 or 5 minutes even with milk and sugar. If you have one that tastes really bitter or astringent try a little less time. Mountain Malt, for example, only needs 3 minutes! :)

Thank you! I will try that. I do add milk and sugar but have been steeping for about 4 minutes. I will cut back the time. Southern Season’s is mild and takes 4 1/2 minutes very well. Others have been too strong for me!
