Got back from visiting my adorable niece over the holiday weekend to find that California is, for once, COLDER than Oregon. WTF. Clearly, this is a job for…copious amounts of tea!

Brewed this up on the stovetop using almond milk. Delicious and creamy as usual, a great tea to start with after being stuck under my brother’s Tea Purist Iron Thumb for a couple of days. Didn’t get as much cheesecake as I usually do, but then I also slurped it right up, so perhaps I wasn’t paying enough attention.

Tried out making iced tea with this, since I have been pretty bad about drinking greens lately. The result isn’t too bad, but there’s nothing of green tea about it really, it’s mostly just cold spicy (mostly gingery) water. Still, it’s one way to get rid of large amounts of this at a time!

Ugh, only I could be careless enough to catch cold in August of all things. Couldn’t I have waited a few days for it to at least be September? That is slightly less embarrassing.

Anyway, yeah, so my throat hurts which is a bummer AND my belly is unhappy, so out comes the throat coat! This tea is really amazingly effective and, although I could do without the anise, it doesn’t taste too bad either.

Some people must, but I only know this because licorice exists and someone must be buying it… no one I know!

Backlogging

My free sample with my TeaFrog order (love free samples!). I was quite curious about this, as I haven’t had many cinnamony teas and the combination sounded intriguing. The smell is SUPER strong, it was basically able to fill my studio THROUGH the packaging. I tried to combat it with incense, but that proved to be only a temporary solution. Thankfully, the effect has since faded.

The first steep was…mostly cinnamony, that is pretty much all I tasted, no rooibos no orange, nuffin. It’s interesting to read other people’s impressions – especially teabird, who had basically the opposite reaction. Am I that big a wuss or did we just get a very different batch? The world may never know. I DID get more orange when the tea had cooled, but that is hardly optimal for a tea called “fireside.”

I’ll try to vary my steeping parameters a bit before I give this a rating, don’t want to judge it unfairly because I was adding too much water, or something!

My tastebuds might just be skewed by Harney’s Hot Cinnamon Spice, which is ridiculously (deliciously!) cinnamon-y. Fireside is probably better balanced :P I just like my cinnamon crazy strong, so the rooibos stands out to me here. Did you ever eat “atomic fireballs,” the cinnamon candy? I may have loved those as a kid…

A bit chilly this morning, so I went straight for this rather than a matcha smoothie. I also need to control myself with the matcha because I am taking it with me on my upcoming trip to see my niece (and some other people) so that I may introduce my brother and his wife to The Way of (super delicious) Matcha.

Had a pleasant surprise when I got a mouthful of sweetness in one of my sips. It seems if you pause and take a moment to absorb the fragrance as you are drinking, the cheesecakeness comes out more.

I happen to be out of the bread pudding I made this week, but! I did get a delicious new dessert tea to console me. This came out a bit weak, so I need to watch how much water I dump into the ingenuitea. It’s so easy to just fill it – I have a giant coffee mug so I know I won’t make too much.

Yaaaaaay, TeaFrog order came in today! And I didn’t even have to concoct any stories about alternate realities to explain it’s lateness! Well done, post office!

Naturally, I went straight for the Earl Grey Special. I feel very happy right now, since I have this more rounded (friendly?) Earl Grey and then the in your face, I would almost call it militant Earl Grey Cheesecake from 52teas. It is a good combination! I wanna say that the Earl Grey-ness is much more prominent here than it was in the sample, but as I look over my other entries, it seemed like there was a general acclimation process going on the more I drank of it, so perhaps I am just perfectly primed to appreciate it now. It’s still got a little bit more of the citrus zing than your average Earl Grey, but I like it! Gives it character.

Now, the only question is…where am I going to put it? My tea cupboard is a little…full.

I’m a Pole who grew up in Texas, is currently a graduate student in California studying Japan. How’s THAT for random?

Being Polish, my family has always drunk a lot of tea, and I am no different. I may drink more tea than water. On the other hand, I can’t say that I’m very particular about it; I’m generally pretty careless with steeping times and water temperature and I don’t even have a proper teapot (mostly because the lid broke during the move to California ;_;).

I always drink my tea unsweetened and I only add milk in the case of the most egregiously chai-ish of chais. (not really a big fan of milk in general)

Given that so many of my entries seem to be about my morning tea, I felt I should add something here about me and mornings: I fail at mornings. I fail at them a LOT. Therefore I often also fail at proper tea making in the mornings.
