drank Tokyo by Harney & Sons

So I have recently (like five minutes ago) decided to take a modified page out of TeaEqualsBliss’s book by promising myself that I will definitely have one cup of green tea a day. I am not gonna lie, I love black tea best and that means that some days I will just keep drinking it and never drink any other kind of tea. That means I am missing out on health benefits! UNACCEPTABLE. Actually, I should probably make this at least one cup of green tea AND one cup of rooibos, but I’m just gonna start with the green tea thing and see how that goes.

Part of the problem here is that I have never really met a green that got me all that excited. Most of them I would classify more as “eh, it’s all right.” Tokyo pretty much fits that. It was nice enough on the first try, but with each succeeding cup, I’ve gotten more and more meh on it. Perhaps I should go more fruity…

Actually it’s a complete lie that “only” green teas have health benefits. They said the same thing about Wu Yi Oolong a while ago. The people that say that are just trying to sell those specific types of teas. Tisanes have their own health benefits, but all true teas have roughly the same health benefits. It’s also about what you’re not drinking when you are drinking tea. So like what you drink and drink what you like- and feel good about it!:)

Ewa

Now see, what I had heard is that the different types of teas have different kinds of health benefits. So that the oxidization in black tea means you lose mumble benefit you get from green tea but gain something else. Or something along those lines.

Cofftea

That might be true, but you made it sound like black tea had no health benefits. I started drinking pu erh because it seemed like that was one of the few unique health benefits of pu erh, but now I’m even seeing that listed as a health benefit for other teas. There’s so much conflicting info out there about the health benefits of tea, I guess you just gotta take it w/ a grain of salt. Conflicting info can also be found regarding caffeine.

TeaEqualsBliss

So…I will be sending you a variety of greens as well! LOL – Yes…I have multiple blacks per day and start my day with them…just a habit, but I have 2 or more greens a day and now 1 or more rooibos’s a day. I usually end up with an Oolong too, yeah, I try and do at least one of all for the health benefits, etc., so I totally see what you are saying!!! GOOD JOB! I hope you find more you like!!! I will try and help all that I can with some new greens!

Ewa

Ah yes, I was imprecise in the post. I blame the giant cloud of pollen that has apparently settled on Santa Barbara. (damn you pollen!) I meant that as long as I am drinking tea I desire the full range of possible (even made up!) health benefits :D
Yeah, caffeine is a weird one, too, isn’t it? I don’t know what to think about it except that I really need to stop drinking black tea (and probably green as well) at night so I can fall asleep easier.

TeaEqualsBliss

Am I thinking you are more of a sweet green instead of a grassy or bitter green!?

Ewa

@TEB yaaaaaaaay, new greens! I have yet to really come around to the oolong side of the force, though (or the pu erh one for that matter – the tea force has many sides. it’s like a dodecahedron or something)
Sweet green sounds right! Where do the kind of buttery greens fit in? I like those.

TeaEqualsBliss

Buttery greens are good too – let me see what I can find for ya! In terms of oolong…start with some Ali Shan!!!! I LOVE me some Ali Shan!!!! :) For an Oolong BRAND…I really like Norbu but am current out of Norbu Teas. As for Oolong Flavors…do you like peach as a general rule of thumb? If so…try a Peach Oolong…or even a Plum Oolong. I LOVE both, usually. And…both are great iced, too!!!!

Ewa

I love peach! I was totally intrigued by the peach oolong you posted about today, but then I looked on Adagio and it was not there so I was sad. I guess that is a thing though? That is, other people make those?

TeaEqualsBliss

I think I have some Peach Oolong from Teavana left – I like that one, too…I will try and remember to send that one your way!

RachanaC (Rachel)-iHeartTeas

Are you taking about my blend Sweet Peach Treat?

Ewa

Yay, awesome! Then if I like it, I can just go to the Teavana in town for moar!
@RachanaC That’s the one! I was really intrigued by the way TEB described it with the peach coming in at the end.

Ewa

Oh cool! I was just looking in the sidebar list and didn’t see it there.

RachanaC (Rachel)-iHeartTeas

It is one of the blends I am most proud off. Delicious indeed and not your average green tea.

Bio

I’m a Pole who grew up in Texas, is currently a graduate student in California studying Japan. How’s THAT for random?

Being Polish, my family has always drunk a lot of tea, and I am no different. I may drink more tea than water. On the other hand, I can’t say that I’m very particular about it; I’m generally pretty careless with steeping times and water temperature and I don’t even have a proper teapot (mostly because the lid broke during the move to California ;_;).

I always drink my tea unsweetened and I only add milk in the case of the most egregiously chai-ish of chais. (not really a big fan of milk in general)

Given that so many of my entries seem to be about my morning tea, I felt I should add something here about me and mornings: I fail at mornings. I fail at them a LOT. Therefore I often also fail at proper tea making in the mornings.
