Have you ever opened a bag of tea and it smelled so good you wanted to eat the dry leaves then and there? That’s what this tea smells like to me – it reminds me of the awesome almond cherry biscotti my dad makes.
The tea brewed up quite dark for a green tea, like many gunpowder greens. That base was a pretty good choice because it gave the tea more of a robust slightly smokey base rather than a light vegetal one liked you’d get with a sencha. The almond and cherry (two things that I absolutely love BTW) blend very well with it and the end results weren’t artificial-tasting at all. Two thumbs up, Frank.
Preparation
Thanks to Amanda for the sample!
Although I love bananas (they’re the most efficient fruit), I’m not the biggest fan of banana flavorings. So why did I request a sample of this? Because my boyfriend LOVES banana flavored things, and because who doesn’t want to take every opportunity they can to get their boyfriend to drink tea?
When I brewed this hot, it was actually quite nice, but that was because I couldn’t really taste the bananas in it. I was reading reviews that it’s better iced, so I waited for it to cool down and sure enough, those banana flavors come through the cooler it is. Even cooled-down it’s drinkable, and this coming from someone who doesn’t really like banana flavored things. Never got a chance to toss some sugar in it, unfortunately. My boyfriend liked it so much hot that he didn’t even wait for it to cool down. Good thing I set a little bit aside to do some post-hot testing ;)
I told my boyfriend not to like this too much, since as we all know 52teas come and go. Perhaps they will reblend it, though, and if so I may pick it up knowing it’s something a banana lover and a banana-flavor unlover can both enjoy.
Bumping this up a bit in rating. Opened the cupboard this morning to try and decide on a tea with breakfast and opted to give this one another try. I’m not sure if its the time that its had to sit in the cupboard but its a much tastier cup now. It’s not something ill necessarily keep as a full time occupant in my cupboard but I won’t crinkle my nose up anymore if someone offers me a cup. I’m glad I gave this one another shot.
Backlogging this as I’m not sure how i don’t have a rating on this one. From what i recall it was a bit underwhelming for me. It may just be that I’m not a fan of mate. I’ll try and have this a few more times on the weekend for a better review :)
I am also not a huge fan of mate, but my husband loves it. Maybe I could try this and find a happy medium. Thanks for the preliminary rating!
SIPDOWN on this one…no chocolate in this cuppa but tons of smoke. Knocking off a couple of points in the rating because of that and because of the funky aroma and aftertaste…it has potential but it’s not one of my faves from 52 Teas. So sorry Frank…you now we luv ya tho!
Liberteas Thanks for this one!
This has more of a dark chocolate type taste to it with that strong LS base. It’s ok but not my fave from 52 Teas. The aftertaste lingers a little weird for my liking but I can handle it…maybe a tad smoky-bitter??? I’d love to taste more chocolate as my Sororitea Sister mentioned…I agree!
This was in the chocolate sampler, but it was also sold separately as one of the weekly teas. What’s cool about the chocolate sampler, though, is that there were a couple of teas that were not weekly teas (or at least, not weekly teas since I’ve been a customer of 52Teas … so you get your hands on some exclusive teas with that box! It’s also a really cool box!)
I’m a big fan of coconut, and this tea does not disappoint at all. It’s even great to use when baking desserts for a punch of coconut flavor. This tea also goes to a whole ’nother level when you add coconut milk. Excellent dessert tea. Excellent.
Preparation
This was my tea for Halloween, shared with my friend. Upon opening my package, the taste and smell of the tea was completely different compared to my previous sample of it. But it was good anyway! This time it smelled and tasted like bubblegum instead of marshmallows. But it was perfect for Halloween which was really good this year.

If only more days could be like Halloween.
Yeah how rude that Halloween is only one night of the year. I love the music, the pumpkins, the decorations, the darkness and magic of it, it should be a week long!
Thanks Ruby! Another thing about this tea is that I can’t believe its sencha green, because I dont normally like sencha. I could drink this every day!
I wanted to get this tea the first time I saw it. I was attracted to the photo, loved the name, and the ingredients sounded good. I kick myself for not getting this in August, and I really think it would be an awesome blend for October. Thanks to KeenTeaThyme, I was able to try it. Thank you for being incredibly nice to share this with me!
The dry leaf smell is to die for. hence the graveyard. How can a green tea smell this yummy?
The taste is so very fresh, marshmallowy, and a tad minty. I think I taste and smell vanilla but don’t see it listed in the ingredients, maybe that’s the natural flavors. This is the first time ever that I have enjoyed a sencha green tea! I want to try this blend so many ways. I bet it would be amazing iced. I wonder how this would be with sugar. I want to make a latte with it! I’ve never even made a latte before.
Definitely a tea that inspires you in many ways.
I love lemon beverages — really any sweet lemon desserts — and this tea definitely brings you a huge punch of lemon flavor. It would be a great tea to take if you’re sick. Just sweeten with some honey and you’re good to go. Like some other reviews have mentioned, it’s good straight, but because it’s such an essential flavor, it would go great in a blend with any other type of tea where you want to bring that zing.
Preparation
~1tsp / 12oz + sugar
Had a cup of this to go with my super healthy dinner of buttered noodles! I need to find some better alternatives to lazy dinners. For a while I was doing cheese and tortillas, but I ran out of tortillas. D:
Anyway! Gosh I’m STILL looking for that sweet spot to get the actual cinnamon roll taste. I hit it once so I KNOW IT’S THERE SOMEWHERE. I just don’t know how to get it consistently.
This cup was the usual creamy consistency, it was close to being a cinnamon roll, but I could of used a little more “dough” if that makes sense. I really wish this tea came with some recommended steeping instructions.
Preparation
I had a cup of this when I got home from work yesterday. TGIF!! I accidentally steeped this at 175 instead of 195, and it really changed the flavors a lot.
This time around the cinnamon smell wasn’t as strong and it had an almost tartness about it. I made a second cup afterwards with the 195 temp and I got that great creamy taste I’m used to. This is turning into a real hit or miss tea for me. Definitely not the most forgiving, as far as my experiences thus far have gone, especially if you’re aiming for that cinnamon roll taste.
Preparation
~1tsp / 8oz cup + a little bit of sugar
Good gravy is this good! I used the same tea leaves I used last night for my sister’s cup, and it STILL came out delicious. The tea had a creamy consistency and had a real buttery, sweet taste. I was going to make some Oolong tea next but I might just make another cup of this.
Preparation
“good gravy” totally threw me off at first i was like TEA THATS LIKE GRAVY EWWWWWWWWWWW— oh. IM EXCITED TO TRY THIS THO
Oh goodness. I’ve done it. I’VE DONE IT. FINALLY. I think I found the magic combo, which is NOT steeping it to high heaven.
I only got a couple sips, I was actually making it for my sister. It made me really nervous because she was excited to try this, and she doesn’t really like tea that much. If this didn’t turn out she would probably hate it. LUCKILY, the couple test sips I took were delightful (and hot). She added more sugar than I had put in originally but whatever.
My rating will probably go up when I finally get a cup of my own to try. I’m just so happy that this tea didn’t turn into the flop I was thinking it was.
Preparation
When this came in the mail I was SO EXCITED. This is the first tea I got purely from all the great reviews people on steepster were giving. A cinnamon roll tea that tastes exactly like its name? TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE! After having two cups of this so far, (one with a 1/2tsp of sugar, the other with the same amount of sugar + milk) I still have to say that it is too good to be true. Maybe I had my expectations set too high?
First impression is it smells strongly of cinnamon, like others say. After brewing it, I still had the strong cinnamon smell but it wasn’t quite as prominent when taking a sip. It did not taste like cinnamon roll though. A shame, because I WANTED IT TO. I’m not giving up either, I’m convinced this must be user error if everyone else is having such success and I am not. That or everyone else is having VERY different cinnamon rolls than me.
Despite it not tasting like it’s name in my opinion, I still enjoyed this tea. It made for a very nice cup of late night tea before bed. I expect (and hope) my rating will change as I experiment more with how to brew it.
Preparation
So this morning, I reached into my 52teas box of chocolate teas intending to have a delicious cup of chocolate caramel black tea as my first cup of tea for the day. I portioned out a single serving size and noticed I would not have enough leaf left from another single serving size so I measured the rest into my steeping basket and got a larger mug. Then I went to rinse the tiny tin out to keep. And noticed I’d used the wrong tea. Oh well, it was already in the steeping basket. There was no turning back now!
Being the last of the tea, the cup came out stronger than usually. At first, I thought too strong but a little way in, I was liking it. It was very creamy this time, I’m guessing the white chocolate.
Then something wonderful happened. I had somehow distractedly left less than an inch of tea in the bottom of my cup, which became quite cold. I decided to gulp it down anyways before I made another cup. Omg! Bingo! There it is – white chocolate strawberry. This tea has been good but had never tasted exactly like it until then. But it was totally noticeable cold.
I’m upping my final rating of this tea to a 70 (high nice/low good) from a 64 initially before I decupboard it. Overtime, it’s tasted more and more like white chocolate and fruit/strawberry and I’ve come to like it quite well.
Would I order this again? 2.5 (neutral to maybe)
While I would definitely drink this if I had it lying around, I’ve had better 52teas, chocolate teas, and chocolate teas from 52teas. So I think others would trump this when making an order. But it’s a moot point. 52teas is a mostly limited release company and this was part of a sampler.
Preparation
After I finished the Rainbow Sherbet black tea, I immediately made myself another cup of tea – this one – then made myself eat my sandwich. Ham with some kind of cheese that I don’t know exactly what it is but tasted a lot better than I expected it to, yellow cherry tomatoes, some kind of frise looking like lettuce, and a sweet spicy red bell pepper mustard on multigrain bread. It was pretty good.
This tea has the creamy sweet texture of white chocolate with a background of fruit that might be strawberry. It was good too, but not the omg I needed this so good of the previous cup.
Preparation
Backlogging. 11 days ago. Friday morning.
I wanted to go with a chocolate tea this morning and this one sounded good even though I haven’t tried it yet. Honestly, I’m really not getting white chocolate strawberry from this tea. As it cools because I’m looking for it I think I get a texture that reminds me of white chocolate more than tastes like it and as it cools further I think I get some strawberry. Not a bad cup by any means, just not getting the intended flavor.
