drank China Clouds and Mist by Allegro Tea

China Clouds and Mist from Allegro offers a unique taste that I wasn’t really expecting when I steeped it. The scent is very vegetal like bitter herbs and spring greens, while the flavor is very dominantly minty like spearmint with sweet undertones. There’s even a slight cooling sensation like mint. After a second steeping, I’m getting some smoke and asparagus notes underneath the mint. The third steeping was similar, but more mellow. Each repeated steeping finished with a drier mouth-feel than the last, which wasn’t desirable, but wasn’t overpowering either. This green tea certainly has a unique flavor that struck me as very interesting at first, but wore on me just a bit. I do not like spearmint, so that may be why.

Being a lifetime sufferer of stomach problems, I’m always on the lookout for anything that will calm my insides.

Out of the package, this is pleasantly minty, but not unlike anything else I’ve previously had. Most stomach soothing teas load up on the peppermint, and as I result despite my love of peppermint flavor, I cannot drink straight peppermint tea anymore. I wasn’t expecting much from this one that I hadn’t had before.

Thankfully, this one surprised me.

It has peppermint, yes, but not the wet grass, low grade peppermint that I’m used to in bagged teas. The cinnamon and ginger lend the whole thing a pleasant warming feeling, and the peppermint lends a pleasant tingle to it all. It does taste a little plant-y, yes, but not in an unpleasant way.

Over all, it did calm this morning’s upset stomach, so it does what it says on the label without being overly sweet or tasting exactly like every other peppermint or ginger stomach calming tea on the market, instead finding a pleasant middle ground between the two that actually is soothing.

Yep. This is a pretty decent white tea. And considering it was something silly like $10/100g, a pretty good deal as well.

It has that thickness that I expect, although it smells almost a little earthy behind the floral. It pulls a little astringent too. Idk what this means, but I do like the flavours. It’s nothing like Butiki’s Watermelon Xylophone base – that one outclasses this one any day of the week. But the price is right!

I don’t know that I’d stock this tea, but if I happen to shop in that particular Whole Foods, I’d definitely consider getting a little more. (PS. Their dispensing method SUCKS. Gigantic glass jars with lids, and spoons shoved into the tea. So. Ymmv.)

Very tasty tea that calmed my stomach as I drank it. Very good to drink while I write. I normally add a splash of soy into my teas or a teaspoon of honey, but with Happy Tummy, I needed nothing. The spearmint and peppermint left a deliciously minty aftertaste in my mouth. Overall, this tea was fantastic and may have just beaten my current favorite tea out of it’s top spot on my list.

I got this because I’ve been wanting to add more caffeinated teas to my collection, even though generally speaking I do alot of my tea drinking at night so I stay away from caffeine then unless I want to stay up and do some writing. But with Winter coming up I figure I should have on hand teas that have a pick me up.

I don’t think this will go beyond the 1st box.

1st smell: herbally. lol. Smells pretty much like nearly every other teas out there to me. My sense of smell kinda sucks though.
1st taste: can’t say I am impressed. I mean it is drinkable. But I was hoping that the Yerba Mate would at least help bring me out of the sleeping pill related fog that I’ve been in since waking up. Considering I’ve got an errand to run in a few minutes, I really need the pick me up, even at the risk of not getting to sleep tonight. With it being pretty windy here, due to the fallout of Hurricane Sandy, I need to be really aware.

Another from the freebie bin at Whole Foods… love the freebie bin. Anyway, this is a good enough minty green. It seems to me kinda indistinguishable from the Bigelow Mint tea that seems to be offered to me in every hotel I’m ever in. Sorry, Allegro, I realize that’s not much of a complement.

Still, mint is nice and functional- it calms the tummy, it perks me up, and green tea has loads of health benefits. If you like the occasional standard mint tea (and don’t mind the green tea addition here), this one’ll do the job. I really can’t think of much more to say about it beyond that.

Edited to add that it being organic gives it a big leg up on most teas though.

I stopped into Whole Foods, needing a quick tea fix. I’ve been out for the past several week. No need to worry, I just placed an order at Butiki Teas. This tea was on sale so I decided to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised! The tea has a green tea base with notes of citrus and licorice. It’s light and refreshing, I approve! It is a bagged tea so the flavor isn’t as full as I would like but regardless this is a good tea.

THE RUNDOWN
1) Starting out, this has a really fresh bouquet. As i like to steep my greens long, I am going to steep for 5 minutes and see how that changes. My water temp is 220 F. Right now I smell the nettle, the mint, and the green tea itself the most.
2) The mint is definitely the strongest after steeping.
3) First taste: needs a bit of sweetener. I am using white sugar, about 1/4 tsp.
4) Now it’s good to go. Nice and mild, but the mint is definitely present in an almost overpowering way. I think this is a “try and recommend for mint lovers” kind of tea, but not for me.

drank Feel Like Zeus by Allegro Tea

This is an unusual blend for me as I tend to avoid “spicy” teas. While the first few sips had me on edge, as one might feel exploring a new and possibly hostile land, the flavor eventually won me over. I’ve been having it with breakfast over the past few days.

I am intrigued that it is marketed toward men – is there some ingredient that is specific for men’s health but not women’s? Despite being a woman, I sometimes want to “Feel Like Zeus.”

This is pretty good for a bagged tea, but I prefer Numi bagged teas when I need to take tea on the run. Nice flavor, but too much bergamot for my taste.

I wasn’t expecting much from this relatively cheap black tea from Allegro, but I had never tasted a Ceylon tea before and the leaves looked long and attractive so I decided to try some. After brewing my first cup this morning, I am very happy I went with an ounce instead of just a half ounce. The first infusion was somewhat lighter than other black teas I’ve tasted, which I attributed to the fact that I steeped it at a little lower temperature than I should have, but once I tasted it I was very impressed to find complex, fruity tones over a smooth base of black tea goodness. The second infusion was very weak, I think next time I’ll just brew it hotter and longer the first time and then throw it out, this being the only real downside to this tea. Otherwise, very impressed with the oolong-like characteristics of this unassuming black tea.

It might just be my preference for strongly flavored teas, but this tea just comes off a little too weak for me. I tried brewing it at various temperatures to try to draw out the taste, but it’s still fairly bland. I prefer Tazo tea’s Rooibos (African Red Bush) to this.

Went to Whole Foods this morning for the ingredients to make dinner, and needed some tea. I saw this in the blah selection of teabags to choose from and decided to try it since I’ve never had a green Darjeeling.

Not bad for bagged tea, although I’m sure having full on green Darjeeling would be much better. It worked for my morning fix though And now I just want to go back to sleep now that everything is in the slow cooker.

Since this is the brand served by the school coffee shop, I’ve been drinking this for the past two days. Yesterday I mixed it with a white tea, but today I had it solo on ice. It’s a very nice tea; the flavor is light, but somehow crisp, and drinking it as an iced tea only makes that flavor more distinct. It has a very refreshing taste, and gives me the perk-up I need on these stressful school days.

There is supposed to be many ingredients here, but I’m really only tasting a bit of spearmint. I might have oversteeped it. Seems a bit bitter to me… it’s an odd bunch of things anyway.

This tea used to always rescue me at work. I worked at the front desk so nodding was def no-no. I would drink it around 2pm whenever I’d had a heavy lunch or when I felt sluggish. This tastes very good and citrusy. It would give me the boost to finish out the work day, and most times to even ‘live my OWN life’ after work. You should also try Allegros ‘Everyday Amazing’, its wonderful for a productive day and no jitters.
