Sample from my Butiki Order.
I am hitting the black teas pretty hard this morning.
Another lousy night of sleep and woke up with a pounding headache.
Thankfully, the Earl Grey took care of most of that, but I am feeling like I want some dessert.
So, this tea appealed to me.
Once I smelt the dry leaves, I had to run over to the Butiki website and see what was in this tea, because I kept getting a violet flower scent.
There is no violets in this tea, so I don’t know why smell it, but I also smell the raspberry.
It smells like sitting in the garden after a rain, its lovely!
Light red in color.
I do not get chocolate when I taste this, but more of a creaminess.
This tea is very yummy.
Might just have to add this to my list I am preparing for my next order!
Preparation
Sample from my Butiki order.
Dry leaves smell very nice, not picking up a lot of Bergamot.
Tea smells of a very good quality black, small amount of Bergamot/Citrus shining through.
Lovely dark red in color.
I can taste the citrus, the black tea and the bergamot!
Very nice tea.
If you enjoy a Earl Grey with a lower amount of bergamot I would say this is for you.
Preparation
“Do you feel like a Zombie this morning?”
That is question that is posed in the description of this tea on the Butiki website.
Why, yes, I do.
Last night was so hot and stuffy that I barely slept, so I am groggy and grumpy this morning.
It did not help that my dog ran away this morning too (she is back safe and sound after I went running through fields after her)
This tea certainly evokes sunshine upon opening its bag, bright and citrus.
The scent encourages us Zombies along in the making process…turn on kettle…grumble grumble…measure tea…grumble grumble…pour water…grumble…WAIT 6 Minutes!! GRUMBLE!
Tea is a golden brown in color.
I have never drank a brown tea before.
I must mention that I have not drank a Guayusa Tea before either.
Once brewed the tea takes on more of a herbal scent.
It reminds me of a herbal tea my Mother would have made me drink for some ailment as a wee lass.
As for the sip, I was quite surprised at a dry like pucker that appeared.
The tea reminds me of a dry wine, it appears on the tongue and then evaporates.
I am finding this tea so interesting!
It is complex, light and bright, herbal yet slightly bitter, perky yet centering.
It seems to be shooing away my zombie grumbles though, so I think I will just sit back and contemplate this tea and maybe life itself.
Preparation
Me too. She usually is a “stick to your side” type of gal, but once and awhile she gets the urge to bolt.
She probably was just trying to cool off too…a little wind flapping her ears:)
My pup always comes when you call, but he loses it when spots a squirrel. He runs off and doesn’t realize you’re calling him until the squirrel is out of sight. then he comes trotting back looking contrite. Doggies are silly little things. Glad you got your pup back. :)
This does taste good. I’d join you but my queezies are still with me. I have to be better by tomorrow for the tea festival in Boulder…meeting Chadao and Rachel there and taking 2 classes. Barf! Wish we could all attend a tea meetup.
Stacy sent me a sample of this and I am IN LOVE!
I was not anticipating such a treat this morning!
Getting on a REALLY early morning schedule is biting me in the rumpus today but I am forcing myself to do this.
Barely capable of brewing a cup I manage to make this A MAZE ING tea this morning and it is really giving me that gentle SHOVE I needed!
I am totally getting this creamy, cinnamon like honey flavor and again I need to say CREAMY with a creamy mouthfeel!
I must have more of this!
The peachy notes are sweet, like peach marmalade!
But since it is sweetened by the honey notes its more like an organic or naturally sweetened peach.
I wish I were more with it this morning to properly explain what I am getting from this tea but I am just going to stop, sit back, and enjoy this cup!
Oh yummmm!
A Surprise sample from Stacy in my Butiki order.
I really wanted to get this tea in my order (but to be fair, I wanted to get ALL the teas) so I am happy that I still get to try it.
The dry leaves smell heavenly.
Oolong and Strawberries together? (one at first thinks…)
Of course! How could it ever be different!
Pouring the water over the leaves transforms me to picking the sun kissed berries in the Strawberry Patch.
But, the best part is that I can still taste the lovely creamy oolong.
The strawberry does not overpower the tea whatsoever.
A very lovely tea indeed!
Preparation
Thank you to Bonnie for this sample. Muchly appreciated.
This is another summery tea. The pineapple is present without being overpowering and I can taste the oolong behind it. The whole package is light, easy to drink and very tasty. I am on my third steeping of it and it is still very nice. Good stuff.
Preparation
My very sweet daughter Amanda bought me this tea. I have no idea why but I am on a “love of pumpkin” tea binge! Kind of strange for the middle of summer I guess but it all got started with Davids Pumpkin Chai.
This tea is very light in flavor but yet distinct. It is not over spiced with cinnamon etc.
which I really appreciate!
I am loving this one!
Thank youuuu Purrfect cup for this amazing day #8!
I’m still saving up for a Butiki Order, I can’t wait, but this will tide me over ;)
Delicately sweet, so flavourful, one of my favourite teas in the whole wide world!
In anticipation of Butiki Teas one day sale tomorrow, I had a little photoshoot with this GORGEOUS model of a tea. Wow! I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful tea to be my muse. Seriously.

I am hoarding what little I have left of this tea. Sadly I’m not in a place to order from Butiki tomorrow, so will all of you order for me? I’ll enjoy reading your amazing reviews! I always do :D
P.S. The tea is amazingly delicious. I could hardly stop drinking to write this!
Beautiful pics! I am so excited that this tea is waiting at the PO for me:-)
Also, your new mug is pretty.
I also wish I could rock a bob haircut like you can.
ah that is exciting! You will LOVE it, I can’t wait until you try it! lol
Thank you! The bob is definitely taking some getting used to – but I’m pretty easy going hair wise. It always tends to grow back! :D
Indeed!
Helena, I personally LOVE the Perfect mugs! I would go get 2 more if I wasn’t so broke – I love their size and the strainer inside is the best I’ve ever had (doesn’t let any rooibos fall through, for example).
So if you’re in need of some awesome mugs, I say go for it personally! I have 2 :3
Thank you Bonnie for this sample.
I needed more than my usual caffeine kick this morning and thought I would try this. I’m not familiar with guayusa at all, so this sample beckoned for that reason to.
The lemon smell was lovely and sweet when I opened the packet. The aroma of the brewing drink was the same. Nothing too intimidating there then. Then the taste of the brewed leaf is creamy and lemony, not bitter, just right. It’s novel for me is this guayusa but I reckon I might well get used to it! Let’s hope the caffeine kick helps me too. I have a lot of writing and editing to do today and I need all the help I can get! :)
Preparation
So, in the middle of another string of 100 degree days and I am drinking a hot tea better suited as a treat after raking leaves on a cool, windy fall day.
One thing I really like about Butiki Teas is that they tell you what kind of tea base they use in their flavored teas. This tea uses an organic Ceylon base-many companies would just list “black teas” on their flavored teas and you’d have no idea what it was. I also love that the base is organic-how often do you see that in a blend? Butiki teas really respects its customers and I greatly appreciate that.
The tea itself is delicious. I can’t really compare it to a “real” pumpkin creme brulee as I’ve been vegan so long, I’ve never had one. However, the pumpkin is very natural and it has that amazing creme flavoring that is also in the Canteloupe and Cream tea. Some reviews have felt they tasted too much cinnamon or too much nutmeg, I feel the balance between the two is just right. It is not a super sweet tea, however it is perfectly drinkable without sweetener. Butiki recommends adding brown crystal sugar (which I think is the same as rock sugar?) and it certainly brings out more flavors that way, but I appreciate the fact that it’s left up to me whether I want to add sugar or not as opposed to dousing the whole bag with sugar.
This tea just oozes Autumn and I can’t wait to get some more when (or if) the weather cools this October. I’ll definitely be having this with some pumpkin pie during the holidays.
Preparation
Brown crystal sugar is the same as rock sugar. Its not as sweet as regular sugar so you will need to use more of it.
Good to know. “Crystal” is a brand name of sugar around here, so when I ordered this tea I had thought you were just recommending that particular brand of regular brown sugar.
I defiantly want to try this tea now!!! :) i have never tried any of the rock sugars i usually use equal in my tea… I think though I will buy some and try it! Thanks for this post!!
I haven’t tried many flavoured oolongs so this is something of a novelty. The base appears to be a standard rolled green oolong mixed with what looks like dried cherry (?) blossoms. I was rather cautious about this tea at first, but as it turns out it wasn’t necessary. The strawberry flavours were just right for this oolong and the end result was slightly sweet and deliciously fruity without tasting artifical. Damn, what a good tea.
The second steep (@ 5 min) held onto its flavour fairly well too, although I got more oolong than I did strawberry. This is another tea I would totally order again given the chance.
Preparation
Backlogging:
This is a genuinely silly oolong. It smells like Grape Crush steeped and in the bag. That alone put a smile on my face. (I don’t actually like Grape Crush, btw.)
That said, it’s very grape-y, very yummy and not remotely artificial tasting. The grapeness is rounded out nicely with the earthy oolong. It’s good with a little rock sugar and is definitely good for more than one steeping.
I’ll be keeping this on my oolong list.
Preparation
Thank you Bonnie for this Sample
I woke up early.
I needed a good kickstart to the weekend.
I needed caffeine.
I have tried Guayusa previously and enjoy the buzz.
I got laundry done.
I cleaned up my rooms (I was sick this week, so the place was a mess)
I did a pile of paperwork!
I spent time with my son.
I had a crash, and took a light nap.
Guayusa is great. It reminds me of Adderall for ADHD.
Will keep you focused.
Great name, Good Morning Sunshine.
Must get some more.
I used a tea baggie and added water.
No milk, cream, sugar, honey needed.
Thanks again, Bonnie
This is really quite an interesting tea, thank you to Sandy for sending me a sample of this.
It is somewhat shocking how much this tastes like cantaloupe. Cantaloupe with an a (thankfully Steepster spellchecks!). I taste the cantaloupe first, followed by a bit of a dry peppery taste that must be the white tea. I’m not getting the cream so much, but I’m noticing most people did a 3+ steep on this one, and we only did a 2. I don’t know if I’m missing it or not. The tea doesn’t necessarily ‘need’ it.
Another quality, flavorful tea from Butiki. I’m glad to have had a chance to try them!
Preparation
This is another sample from Sandy. Thanks!
I love the level of chocolate in here. The raspberry seems to come in right behind it and feels quite natural. I’d swear there is some sort of nut in here as well. The nutty flavor is faint enough I am having a hard time identifying it. I’m also getting a cream flavor as well. This is spot on for a raspberry truffle. The base is smooth and well behaved.
Preparation
Hmmm, well to me the Organic Kundaly base tea has roasted walnut notes. That might be the nutty flavor you are tasting. I wonder if the cream flavor is from the chocolate.
I can see walnut fitting the bill. I thought it was done purposefully! I thought it really tasted like a raspberry truffle for those reasons. An excellent job. :D
Actually, the walnut was not intentional. I really liked how the chocolate and Organic Kundaly were working together so that’s why I chose that base. I was going for those decadent buttery truffles. Sort of like a Lindt truffle, though I haven’t tasted one of those in many many years so my idea of what they are like might be off. Originally I was going to add hazelnut to the mix but hazelnut is just so overpowering.
A big thank you to Sandy for the sample of this one!
The chocolate is very tasty, with a tangy raspberry flavor following it, before the smooth base tea at the end. The chocolate leaves a surprisingly noticeable aftertaste that kind of lingers for a little while, and is very pleasant.
Overall, a very enjoyable tea.
Preparation
Thanks to Azzrian for this sample.
This is a pretty good tea. While I’m not normally one for desert type teas, it has a real quality taste that is definitely similar to an almond cookie. It doesn’t taste artificial or fake at all. I’m getting some cinnamon notes in here, but nothing is overpowering. I do agree it might be a little light on the flavor if someone wanted a more powerful tea, but it is definitely not unpleasant at all.
I’m already on the 3rd steeping and this tea is still going strong.
Finally! I’ve been looking for this tea for over a week now. I found it in a box under some Upton samples, that I am sure I checked at least 4-5 times before.
Anyhow, this brews a beautiful deep copper cup. The tea is robust, but not bitter or astringent. Still a little more Ceylon and less Assam than I’d like in a Ceylon/Assam Irish blend. However, it’s the best Irish blend I’ve tried in awhile. I also enjoy the fact that it’s organic. This will go into my rotation of breakfast teas and will be my preferred Irish Breakfast. Good stuff.
Preparation
Still here with my grandmother…
I smelled the tea leaves of Butiki Tea’s latest Oolong, attempting to savor the scent before the taste. They smelled particularly like PEZ candies and I could almost taste it in my mouth already.
Grandma poured some in my cup and handed it to me.
The color was a fading golden-yellow, promising to be smooth and silky when I drank it.
I smelled it once more, savoring the candied and flowery smell (no wonder ‘flowery’ was in the name) and finally took the first sip.
A wide grin spread across my face.
Yay! It tasted just as deliciously as it smelled! Hallelujah!
I then added sweetener and the flavor got serious.
It was so perfectly sweet and the taste of pineapple had gotten to work!
A blast of juicy pineapple exploded in my mouth and my taste buds rejoiced as a dendritic zest zinged and zanged my tongue and then quickly disappeared as I swallowed.
Just as it had promised, the Oolong was silky and sleek when I swallowed it.
It was as if I were drinking sunlight.
Hurrah! The tea was a success! Thank Butiki Teas for creating such a flavorful experience in a cup!
Preparation
I’m sensing a trend, here, with the spiny citrus.
Welcome on board! I’ve gone a bit underground these days, but it is nice to see a new author with articulate fingers!
OK, today I added a spoonful of turbinado sugar to the cup and OMG! This REALLY, TRULY tastes like a soda! But not a commercially processed soda that’s filled with the icky-sickly-syrupy-sticky corn syrup. This tastes like one of those expensive sodas that was made with cane sugar. Yum.
I REALLY love this stuff. I am going to have to order more of this … the little bit that I have left I am sending to my SororiTea Sister but I know that I’m going to be missing this stuff in another week or two… craving it. Yeah… I think we need to increase the rating on this one.
It blows my mind how good this is.
I’ve been so excited and eager to try this tea since I saw that Stacy from Butiki Teas was going to try to make a Tamarind blend for AlphaKitty. The only other “tea” that I’ve had with Tamarind was a sparkling yerba mate RTD, and somehow, I don’t think that really qualifies since it’s a RTD. And it’s yerba mate. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVED that yerba mate, but, I have been wanting a “real” tea with tamarind since tasting that sparkling yerba mate.
I LOVE the aroma of the dry leaf. It smells like candy: sweet with hints of chocolate and vanilla and brown sugar. The brewed liquor smells lovely as well.
The flavor is rich. I like that I taste that Guranse base first and foremost. It is earthy and rich and bold – even bolder than I remember my tasting of the pure Guranse. Maybe the tamarind brings out the stronger side of the tea? Anyway, the natural fruit tones of the tea seem to play very well with the flavor of the tamarind.
Even though I grew up in Southern California and I’ve had a lot of experience with Hispanic foods, tamarind is one that I never really became very familiar with, so I haven’t really tried a lot of tamarind (at least, not to my recollection or knowledge) But, I really like this. It tastes sweet, a little bit sour, and quite unlike anything I’ve really tried before.
I am tasting this straight today, but, Stacy told me that I should try it both ways – sweetened and unsweetened – as they are two totally different teas. Tomorrow, I shall brew a pot and sweeten it and see how it turns out. But for now, I’m really enjoying this cup unsweetened. It has a very unique flavor, not like anything else I’ve tried, and I’m loving it.
I’m really happy I picked the Guranse base for this—I almost went with Ceylon, but I don’t think it would have been nearly as good or made it into the regular lineup! I adds such nice earthy notes.
