I love bananas and I love oolong so when I saw this I had to try it. It smells really sweet, but I think that is from the stevia more than from the dried banana.

Banana is a weird thing. I think it’s kind of difficult to get that real authentic banana flavour in a tea, but either way, this is still delicious! It’s very light, slightly sweet (not overly sweet or sour like some fruity teas can be) and refreshing.
It has the same ‘banana’ aftertaste as another tea I had from DavidsTea that had bananas in it, but that was a black tea (organic snowbunny), and I think this banana-y taste works much better with the lighter, floral flavours of oolong, and without the nuts.

We’ll have to see how this one lives up to my other favourite teas at home, but this just might be one I’ll have to get a good stock of when my sample runs out. Plus, this being all organic is an added bonus. Nom!

Recipe for the perfect iced Root Beer Float:
Root Beer Float tea, brewed extra strong
ice
sweetened condensed milk
tall glass

Add a couple tablespoons of the sweetened condensed milk (that is, if your husband hasn’t found it already and nearly polished off the whole can!) to a tall glass filled with ice. Pour the extra-strong brewed tea* over the ice + milk, stir, and enjoy!

*I highly recommend letting the tea cool in the fridge for a couple hours, otherwise nearly all of the ice melts, but if you want instant gratification (like I did today) feel free to pour the hot tea over ice.

Hot: Not really my “cuppa tea” (har har), reminding me too much of forgotten, day-old root beer that’s turned flat and warm. However, I remember one of the sales-associates recommending this with milk and ice. Hmmm, worth a shot…

Iced: So, I mixed in some sweetened condensed milk instead of just milk and sugar, poured the whole mixture over ice and, oh. monkeys. It’s creamy, delicious root-beer-float-goodness without all the calories of ice cream! I never thought I’d see the day, but it’s here and it’s delicious. I’m not really sure how else to describe it…

This sounds so delicious! I can never seem to take the time to actually make ice drinks like this, otherwise I’d try this.

Faith

It’s actually Super simple to make this one! Just steep you tea like normal (maybe add a touch of extra leaf), add sweetened condensed milk + ice to glass, pour tea over ice, stir, voila!

Well, it certainly tastes like root beer when brewed as/for iced tea. I attempted to make frothy milk a la microwave for a foamy topping. Worked ok. It’s weird how black tea, cinnamon, and white chocolate can combine to taste like root beer. The only thing is, my mouth and brain are confused drinking this. I’m not sure I want to drink a tea that tastes like root beer. I’m undecided in whether I like this or not. I’m glad I just got a few grams of this.

First Big Apple of the season today!! YAY!

Our temps are warming up, so I broke this one out for a scenic drive today.

It’s still a favourite of mine, and I will refill for the season.

It’s light, and sweet and juicy. I like to cold brew this one in the warmer months, too.

Well, it smells awesome in the bag. My steep is decidedly milder than that, and just encroaching on bitterness. I like how fresh this is but I don’t feel I got the best brew out of my first try. I did have mine hot, with a second steeping into my kids tumbler to chill overnight. I might try sweetening this one with honey next time. We shall see…

I used to really not like this tea. I think it was because I normally drank it very oversteeped, as my boyfriend likes to leave his leaves in the steeper/teabag while he drinks teas.

Anyways, I wanted to give this tea a second chance, but this time brewed it up my way.

YUM! Nutty and sweet with a light creamy flavour and a subtle vegetal taste reminiscent of a green tea. I think I am going to get very into this tea – kind of wishing I bought more than 50g! I might try mixing this with my favourite green tea too to get some interesting soft flavour combinations and even more tasty health benefits!

I like this one oversteeped too, since it doesn’t get bitter, but I can see how a short infusion would be delightful too! Glad you gave it another shot!

drank English Rose by DAVIDsTEA

Why oh why did they choose to serve this one iced as a tea of the day? It BEGS to be served hot, with milk and sugar, and with a tea biscuit or scone! Due to the white chocolate and rose, brewed, this tea tastes very much like a Turkish Delight candy…the chocolate with rose scented jelly inside. It’s still a bit too floral for my liking, but if my friends decided to get/make a pot of this to share, I would have some. It is tasty, but not something I’d buy for myself.

This is my first time trying a pu-erh. I know the experience of a DavidsTea pu-erh will be greatly different from that of a high quality pu-erh, but I had to get my foot in the door just a little bit.

Yup! There’s that fishy smell everyone was talking about! I decided to try to not let it get to me, since I read the smell isn’t really in the flavour of the tea. I’d have to say I disagree. Although it’s a lot less strong, there is fishy flavour to this tea, but it’s balanced out by the smoky/earthyness of the rest of the flavours.

I really like the smoky/earthyness but the fishy flavour kind of gets to me. I don’t know if I’ll ever restock this tea but I’ll still drink it, and maybe blend it with some of my favourite teas to see how that is. I’ve also read it gets better after more steeps so I will try that out in the future as well.

Update: I didn’t keep this, I ended up returning it. As I finished the pot I just couldn’t get over the fish taste. Being a vegetarian too it was really weird drinking something that tasted like fish. I know there’s not actually fish/fish oil in it but still…

Maybe I just got a bad batch because other people didn’t pick up on fish flavour as much as I did, but still, I’m gonna change my rating and hope that I can find a yummy not-fishy pu-erh from somewhere in the future.

I think rinsing may get rid of that flavour. Haven’t tried it myself on a DT puerh though.

ScottTeaMan

Noordelijk- It took me a while to realize what people meant by the fishy quality of some Pu-erhs. So far I have not found it offensive or undrinkable. I am recenly drinking more Pu-erhs, but still just beginning to branch out with them. If you want a cooked Pu-erh with no offensive “fishy” taste, I would recommend this one-which I recenly reviewed. I think you’ll like it! I would send you some, but I received a sample in a tea swap, and it’s gone ://

Here’s my review:

CupofTree

Ew, fishy smell and taste in tea? No way. Its awesome they let you return it.

noordelijk

Thanks @ScottTeaMan I’ll look out for that one!

@CupofTree Yeah DavidsTea lets you return things! It was bought from the store though. I don’t know if they do online returns.

CupofTree

yeah I figured. Lucky lucky you for having one near you! I only have teavana and they don’t let you do anything of the kind. :(

Mélissa

Noordelijk, I would recommend you try a Camelia Sinensis pu-erh such as the ‘1998’. The great thing about it is that it’s more earthy than fishy, yet incredibly comforting. Have fun discovering Pu-erhs! You can really taste the ‘time’ in those :)

I was really excited to try this tea, as I’ve been getting to like Oolongs a lot, and had yet to try a milk oolong.

Wow! It really tastes like… milk! Mind you, I haven’t drank a glass of milk in years, so I don’t exactly remember what it tastes like, but it was definitely very reminiscent. Unfortunately, I really don’t like milk, so in turn I really didn’t like this tea.

What I expected was more of an oolong with a light creamy taste over the floral tones, but I got no floral tones and kind of an overhaul of this weird milky flavour. Other users have noted it tasted/smelled like butter, which I can agree with too.

This is the first Oolong I’ve hated, but I guess I’ve learned to stay away from milk Oolongs and stick to more floral ones. I’m returning the 50g I bought of this and I’ll get something new.

I’m kind of disappointed because if I DID like it I was going to mix it with my vanilla oolong from DavidsTea, which I thought would have been pretty tasty. For those of you who do like milk oolongs maybe you could try this combo for me ;) haha

Haha, this is one of my favorite oolongs, and I wasn’t a fan of the vanilla one the first time I tried it. I may give that a try though!

noordelijk

The vanilla is okay. It tastes like vanilla more than anything else. I think it’s more worthwhile to mix with a better Oolong, just to mix up the flavours. @Amanda

Kittenna

Perhaps give Teavivre’s natural milk oolong a shot? It might be more of what you’re looking for. I personally really like the strong milky flavour, but Teavivre’s doesn’t have that.

Kittenna

Also – you should try to swap away this tea if you can, instead of returning it, because they just throw it out :( I’m positive there would be someone on here willing to trade you for it. I’m tempted to volunteer myself, since I’m out of it at the moment and adore it.

noordelijk

I think I’m just gonna stay away from milk Oolongs haha, but thanks for the suggestion @Kittena!
And unfortunately I already returned it. :( I needed the money to get some new straight oolong from Teavana.

Thank you to Kittenna for this lovely tea.
I am enjoying the creamy fruitiness.
I am not sure it is truly a creme brulee flavor here – I guess it depends on if you have some berries with your creme brulee but its good for whatever it is.
I do love the green rooibos base teas!!
Thank you for allowing me to give this a try!

Kittenna

I’m not sure it’s really creme brulee either, but I did enjoy it regardless! I don’t recall fruitiness though; wonder if it picked something up from another bag. I don’t think this one was double-bagged.

Azzrian

It could have – I thought someone else had mentioned tasting it too but maybe not – Im waking up now and probably should not be responding to things at all until I have some tea in me.

drank La La Lemon (Organic) by DAVIDsTEA
1908 tasting notes

I’ve had repeated failiures at getting a good iced tea out of this blend. Finally with the last little bit I had left I think I’ve suceeded in making it somewhat decent.

The recipe I used was 8 tsp of tea in two cups boiling water, steeped for 5 minutes. Then I strained it and poured it over some ice in a 2L jug to quickly halt the steeping process, and topped up the jug with cold tap water. I sweetened it with about 1.5 tblsp of agave nectar.

There’s still a tannic astringency that I can’t get rid of no matter how I steep this tea. I think it might be a character of the tea base itself rather than the steeping process. I wish that they’d chosen to use a different black tea because the lemon flavour seems to only exacerbate the astringency.

So in summary, this works in a pince for iced tea, but I’ve had better and I didn’t care for it hot either. I don’t think I would buy this tea again.

I steeped the tea towards the lower end of the recommended steeping range but four minutes is still a bit too much as the base is pretty astringent and bitter. I think with a bit of tweaking this could be a good tea though. I like the bright lemony notes and I bet this would make a good iced tea as well – a good change from the sugary Lipton bottled lemon iced tea. We’ll see, I guess.

It took me a long time to determine what this tea smelled and tasted like but when I figured it out, every time I take a sip, I cannot stop thinking about Winter and Christmas.

It just smells like the season I suppose. It’s a really tasty tea that smells just as good as it tastes. It has a hint of coco taste and the cinnamon, while prominent is not over powering. Great tea.
