I like to keep a pot or pitcher of tea in the fridge in hot weather season. It hasn’t really bee all that hot, which means the iced teas aren’t as refreshing as intended but they are still tasty.

I’ve learned to make my peace with hibiscus. It just needs to be iced. This particular tea intrigued me because of the cinnamon. Another reviewer mentioned that it tasted like Christmas and I completely agree! There’s actually a popular German Christmas tea that tastes a lot like this. I can drink this straight once diluted, but husband preferred it full strength with a dollop of honey. I love that it tastes like fruit punch and cinnamon. Quite a good fruit tea.

Daisy Chubb

Oh delish! Congrats on making your peace with hibiscus – iced really does make a difference doesn’t it! Definitely fruit punch & cinnamon! mmm

gmathis

A good reminder for me to pull out all those fruit blends that make me pucker because of the h-word and chill them while the weather’s hot!

The flavour of this tea is quite thin with the black tea flavour overpowering the blueberry. There is also an unpleasant flavour reminiscent of a metallic flavour on the aftertaste. There is stevia included in this blend which I have found to have a sensitivity to and may very well be the reason that it is unappealing to me.

Aww, too bad you didn’t like this one. I thought it was good when I tried it, but I don’t have an aversion to stevia yet.

Raritea

I definitely seem to be the odd one out with this tea. Maybe I’ll have to try it again!

Juicy round flavour with a thinning on the finish. Reminiscent of earthy taste which, I am sure, is sourced from the rooibos. The after-taste on this one is a little too sweet- I get that unpleasant lingering sugary feel which I am guessing is sourced from the candies and the sprinkles. This tisane is definitely reminiscent of Jolly Jellybean by David’s Tea. There is a creaminess on the finish. From drinking this tea I am reminded of white chocolate cookies.

Had a cup of this iced on the weekend.
We went for a walk and it was HOT out – muggy hot, sweaty hot! haha.
That said, being extremely thirsty and bringing this along on our nature walk was really nice. Being outside surrounded by trees actually helped me appreciate the “herby” taste of the lemon grass and by the end of the walk I was craving it. Of course, there is still a slight medicinal taste, almost reminiscent of alcohol in a way. The more I drank, the more that taste sank to the background and the more I appreciated the very real, fresh, juicy raspberry taste. That raspberry flavour really saves the day with this tea!

JacquelineM

I love the word Razzmatazz! :)

Mélissa

It seems this tea’s made of everything people can’t stand on this website minus raspberry.

CHAroma

@Melissa, hahahahaa! What an astute observation. ;)

This one smells and tastes like Blue Raspberry! Well, also like fresh raspberries, but I’m loving the tartness that is like a slush puppy with a squirt of shocker. Yum.

The lemon verbena imparts quite a bit of lemon flavour – it took a little getting used to, but I can see why this would be delicious as a fizzy drink. Sweet and tart and refreshing, with a squeeze of lemon in your sparkling water.

All in all, I found the taste a little too “herbal” (maybe the rooibos?) for my tastes, but we will enjoy the rest of this 25g bag!

Also enjoying it iced with a squirt of sweetener. Looking forward to making a tea sangria with this one and lots of fresh respberries!

drank Sweet Strawberry by DAVIDsTEA

I just had a very very specific craving for an iced fruit tea latte.
Then I found this at the back of my tea cupboard! Threw the whole bag in the steeper, about 3 tbsp probably.
Sadly forgot that almond milk curdles with hot bevs, but then I made a second cup with regular milk!

Trial over: my beverage? A delicious creamy and sweet strawberry milkshake flavour! YUM!

I shared this with my coworker today and she loved it! yay! Then she told me she doesn’t hate any tea, except pumpkin flavoured. I can work with that. Let the tea tasting begin!

We both enjoyed it with no additions, and it was very smooth, subtly sweet and tasted exactly like fresh wild strawberries. The hibiscus turned the liquor the perfect shade of pink and added an extremely mild tartness. Gentle and soothing.

Daniel Scott

Glad to hear that the hibiscus is mild. I’m really nervous to try this one, because I desperately want to love it now that Strawberry Fields is discontinued from Teaopia.

Daisy Chubb

Couldn’t hurt to pick up 10g! The hibiscus is definitely mild, but the whole flavour of this tea is kind of mild as a whole as well – it works though I think!

Daniel Scott

Oh, I have it. I’m just scared I won’t like it, lol.

Kittenna

I have a bit I haven’t tried yet either. I’m so terrible with trying new purchases, because I have so many teas from swaps to try too…

In comparison with the Strawberry White of old, I find this one very similar (of course), but with more Bai Mu Dan-taste and a bit more strawberry in the taste! Actually, more than a bit more – quite a bit more.

It’s still not the prominent taste of the tea – but that’s what I did like about Strawberry White – it was a delicate white tea with a hint of strawberry. This one fits the bill a bit more in terms of tastiness, but it is definitely similar to it’s mother-tea.

Enjoying it over ice with a squirt of sweetener.

The citrus in this tea is amazing, and the cool taste of spearmint really complements this tea well.

I always put way more tea than needed to make it a really great iced tea. Oops. :p Mixes great with 7-up or ginger ale.

I find the lime really subtle, in this super smokey mix. I like icing it, and then adding milk to it like a pseudo-latte.

One of my favourite teas by far! I love green tea and the pear just makes it perfect. It’s a tad bitter, but some honey makes it nice.

Blech. Another tea I really don’t care for. The combo of hibiscus/cinnamon/floral rose-y flavours is pretty gross. Apparently last time I tried it, I vowed not to have it again, but here I am…. I still have a cup’s worth left to get rid of. I have no intentions of drinking it.

I feel like I may have steeped this one too long, and am dreading the hibiscus…

Anyhow, the tea smells pretty floral, cinnamony, and strong. Reminds me quite a lot of potpourri, really. And for whatever reason, that smell is not appetizing me right now. Really not a floral tea fan, and mixed with hibiscus?! Yikes. Alphakitty, I hope I sent some of this to you (too lazy to check).

Oh man. Uhhh… yuck. The hibiscus isn’t bad (actually it’s not really an issue at all), but SO MUCH rose and the cinnamon flavour are just screaming BATH PRODUCT to me, not tea. Which gives me a soap association (not a soapy flavour though). I’m going to go water it down some though, because I think I was a little heavy on the tea compared to the water, and I’ve had that issue with floral teas before (by floral I mean rose. I really like the orchid floralness of oolongs, entirely different beast altogether. A gentle, happy beast, not like this one.)

Ok. Watered down it isn’t making me gag nearly so much. But again, it’s too much like a bath product for me. This one’s going down the drain; I would MUCH rather get started on the Harney & Sons flavoured blacks from Alphakitty awaiting me on the counter……

Lynne-tea, Mercuryhime, CHAroma, any of you guys interested in about a cups’ worth of this one? Zero chance I’ll be drinking it again. (Or anyone else for that matter…)

ETA: I just want to mention that I don’t think oversteeping is my problem with this one, it’s just not a combination of flavours that I find appealing.

Preparation

TeaBrat

you make it sound so appealing. ;-)

Kittenna

Hahahaha, I’m sure I do! But I’m discovering I really dislike rose, and that’s probably the biggest problem for me here, so someone who likes rose might enjoy it! That said, the reviews generally aren’t fantastic.

ScottTeaMan

Oh Crap…….that reminds me I cold brewed some tea with hibiscus in it last Mon/Tues and almost forgot about it. Imagine me- forgeting about hibiscus….GLADLY!!

Kittenna

Oooooh, risky….. my last cold-brew with hibiscus was Pink Flamingo, and that did not go well…

Fjellrev

Thanks for the heads up on the not-so-edible bathwater. Haha. It’s funny how so many people dislike hibiscus yet it can be found in so many teas. What is UP with that…

Kittenna

I don’t think the problem in this tea is the hibiscus, although it might be contributing, I think it’s the rose/cinnamon combination. Either way, unless you have intentions of bathing in this stuff…

Fjellrev

Yeah, rose and cinnamon are both such common notes in bath products and candles so I can see how the association would make an odd tea experience. I just found it amusing, as a side note, how you were dreading the largely disliked hibiscus and ended up disliking this tea for a more unexpected reason.

Kittenna

Haha, yes, given the colour of the tea I’m really surprised it wasn’t the hibiscus that ruined it!

drank Happy Kombucha by DAVIDsTEA

Thanks to my tea pal Indigobloom for this sample!

Is this tea perfect for San Francisco? Hippy-dippy and kinda fruity? I’m about to find out. Speaking of fruity, I have a fruit fly infestation right now which is such a drag — I’ll have to take these leaves out to the compost immediately after I’m done! After doing a quick read of the package, I used my small Finium teacup and filter and went with 180F for 5 minutes.

My cup ended up being a medium orange and smells very fruity! The flavor is incredibly peachy and pineapple-y. It’s kind of hard to taste the oolong underneath here but it makes a good foil for the fruit. I actually like those fizzy kombucha drinks even though they are expensive. This has the slight aftertaste of one of those, it’s a fermented almost beer like quality. I didn’t know you could even get powdered kombucha, so that was interesting to discover.

When you buy a fresh kombucha drink it’s $4 a pop, so I was thinking you could mix this tea with some fizzy water and have a reasonable substitute for a lot less money. I wonder if it still has the same health benefits as the fresh tea? This would be good iced, too.

I’ve never been the biggest David’s Tea fan, but this had me scanning their website for the price. I might need some of this in the future, but then again I have a ton of flavored tea I still need to get through. Are they ever going to open up a David’s Tea in California?

It’s a nice fun, fruity flavored kinda deal. I think I’m going to try cold brewing the rest of it overnight. Me likey. Thanks IB!

hehe SO glad you liked this one. It was a choice between this and Long Life Oolong. They’re very similar but oh soooo good :)

TeaBrat

I liked it! Sadly there’s no hippies in Haight-Ashbury anymore, just chain stores and houses that cost 1 mil!

Bonnie

Yep! Good stuff! You can still find hippies in Berkeley and Santa Cruz and then there’s the mountain towns …shhhhh scary places!

Kittenna

I hate fruit flies!!! The only good thing is that their lives are so short, if you are really diligent about removing any possible food sources, they go away reasonably quickly. Last year we had problems with both fruit flies (downstairs, kitchen area) and fungus gnats (upstairs, apparently breeding in the sink drain). It was gross. Still see the odd one, but I think they’re from outside now.

Also, I bet they will open up a DT in California :P Looks like they’re expanding reasonably quickly!

This one’s interesting. I kept getting a nagging voice in my head telling me I was drinking Secret Weapon, based on the scent. It’s indeed similarly nutty, obviously, but quite sweet. I like it. I’m not sure how I feel about the massive Brazil nuts, though I acknowledge that’s kind of the tea’s whole gimmick. But, how much flavour do whole nuts actually impart? All I know is nuts are heavy! Anyway. Aside from that, and the slight bitterness that came out even at 3 minutes at 200 degrees, I enjoyed it.

Oh, Steepster. I’ve been quite MIA for some time now. I’m so behind on the things I’ve been drinking! I’m going to ease back in with this one, which I’ve had a few times now both iced and hot.

I found this one a really pleasant surprise! It’s a well-balanced, straight-up blueberry black. I haven’t had a blueberry tea I’ve liked, so this carries the distinction of being the first. The stevia doesn’t interfere too much (though I still find it an odd choice to be in so many blends). I’ve had it iced from the store a couple of times, and it’s flavourful enough to be satisfying while a lot of DT’s teas can be underwhelming iced in-store.

TeaBrat

I was thinking about getting this but now that I know it has stevia… ick

nomadinjeopardy

You could give it a shot. I’m normally sensitive to stevia in tea/liquid because it seems to leave a weird feeling in my mouth, but I don’t really detect it in this. But I wish they’d leave it out! It seems like all the new teas have it. It doesn’t add anything but apprehension about trying them for me.

I had this iced yesterday as we were picking up our 20g of each of the new teas. It was…different. I dunno, it tasted off to me, too tart kind of? I don’t know how to describe it, but at the end of the cup my wife and I agreed that Blueberry Jam was infinitely better.

EDIT: Tasting note 300!

Yum! Picked up 25g of a bunch of new teas from Davids today… to celebrate the first paycheck of course :D! (So happy there is no tax on tea here) Also picking up some last minute teas for the tea swap aaand some awesome cute kids stickers! Yay!

This is a pretty decent caramel black. Good job Davids. It’s creamy and sweet – and I looove the addition of the sea salt with the toffee bits. Brewing it at home was great – not bitter at all after steeping for about 3 minutes, and when I accidentally walked away from my resteep for 10 minutes, it was also not bitter! That was very lucky. I added milk anyways :P

Man I am rambly lately. Ramblo. Anyways! Right now I don’t need a caramel black in my cupboard, but when I do I think this one will be it. Lots of toffee chunks, and I loved the rounded flavour the coconut gave it (coconut sucker alert).

Maybe I will try it as an iced latte – but I might just stick to hot. With a dash of rum. OR Caramilk Liqueur? hmm

Bonnie

tempting!

Hesper June

Ooooo, sounds simply decadent!

Missy

haha Ramblo! That was quite awesome there. :D

So my partner just made his morning cream of earl grey after using the steeper for luscious watermelon last night, and it tastes like cream of luscious watermelon!

Kittenna

Is that a good or bad thing?!

TassieTeaGirl

Well it was actually quite tasty, but the other half was a bit confused I think. He just wanted a cream of earl grey and wasn’t expecting anything else!

Kittenna

Hahaha, poor guy!

TheTeaFairy

Funny! I might just try that, love them both!

TassieTeaGirl

We didn’t clean the steeper out after using it for luscious watermelon, just left the tea bits in there then hot water rinsed it the following morning, if that helps!
