I had to get my morning matcha fix this past weekend while I was remote in Toronto for the tea festival, and one of those mornings I was at Eataly grabbing breakfast. At first I was surprised to see matcha on their menu, but I suppose everyone is doing matcha now and it’s basically a financial missed oppertunity if you’re not…
The quality of this was honestly pretty bad. Despite the rich colour, it was just over sweetened to the point of tasting more like a cereal milk beverage than a matcha. Like, drinkable but definitely not the type of matcha I’m used to starting my day with. I will say, I thought the ice cubes it came with were very cool though. Very large, near perfect cubes that had such an impressive clarity to them! Some of the nicest cafe ice I’ve seen in ages.

It’s been a few days now since Toronto Tea Festival, and it was honestly just such an amazing experience – and so needed right now!
I did a reaaalllyyyyy shitty job keeping track of everything I sampled over the two days of the festival, so I’m just gonna write tasting notes for anything I drank a “full glass” of during the weekend break – and that starts with this iced tea that I grabbed from Eataly for breakfast on Saturday after Marika and I had just landed in Toronto and gotten out of the airport.
I’m pretty sure the drink was just made from a syrup and it was very sweet but after a very exhausting morning in the airport and on the plane (even if it was a short trip) it really hit the spot! Mostly hibiscus but the peach came through a bit in the finish.
