Made this a bit more concentrated this past week. It’s such a soft, smooth and buttery matcha that it takes very well to a more concentrated way of whisking it up. More of a white chocolate and macadamia nut profile, with a gentle umami finish.

Morning Matcha Round-Up!
Sipped this one from a new chawan, which has a super cute hand painted lily pattern on it and this little froggy peeking over the side of the bowl. The matcha was very nice too! Softer in taste and mouthfeel, with a nuttier flavour that made me think of a bit of toasted macadamia nuts. I’m definitely enjoying these emeri matchas a lot as an everyday kind of matcha!

Iced Latte… with sweet corn!
The last time I tried this I said the flavour was lighter and, therefore, I thought it wouldn’t be as ideal for matcha lattes. However, this past week I confused the two Emeri matcha in my stash and I accidentally used this one as the foundation for a sweet corn latte made using a pureed corn drink I picked up at T&T. I’d 100% meant to use the hinata instead.
Even so, this was still very pleasant! It definitely has the energy of something that could be quite rich and decadent, especially because it was SO thick. However, it was shockingly fresh and lively and the sweet corn brought out more of the vegetal and umami notes of the matcha while still ultimately being a creamy drink. I’d definitely recreate this again in the future, though maybe with a different matcha base.

Last but not least of this week’s matcha round up was the other new matcha I order from Emeri (because of the yame origin). This one didn’t win me over as immediately as the Hinata had, but it was definitely very enjoyable. The nuttier notes I was seeking were there, but the overall profile was much softer and delicate. A touch creamy, with hints of sunflower seed butter and white chocolate. Based on this tasting, I don’t think it would hold up as well in a matcha latte compared to the Hinata – so maybe that will be the difference in how I consume them. Still so nice, though!

Just a simple bowl of usucha on a morning I wanted something a little cozier and more nutty. The strong notes of sesame paste, roasted peanuts, and sunflower seeds really shine in this matcha with a backbone of umami that supports those distinctly nutty and characteristic Yame tasting notes. Thicker mouthfeel, also, but not rough or astringent.

Iced Latte!
Made this as an iced latte a few days after realizing that this was the matcha I’d intended to use as the base for my sweet corn latte earlier in the week, and not the Okawari from emeri. I ended up going with a simple iced oat milk latte – no sweetener, syrups or jams. I was definitely right that this has a strong and distinct enough nuttier flavour to hold up quite well when enjoyed this way. It was creamy, with more umami notes of peanut butter or even sesame paste. Love, love, love a more nutty matcha!

I recently placed a matcha order with Emeri for Black Friday because I’m heard some very, very good things about their Yame matcha and I’ve been SUPER into matcha with that distinct nuttier flavour from the region. I tried this one first the same day I got my order, and wow does it slap. I’m sure I’ll write a nicer tasting note down the line but for now let me just say the richer mouthful coupled with the distinctly toasted sesame and peanut-like notes really won me over quite quickly. I’m very excited to get to know this matcha a bit better over time…
