Recent Tasting Notes

This is a very nice breakfast tea. I often have it in the afternoon with Pepperidge Farm cookies as well. It is not as strong as some keemuns, being lighter in cocoa notes and lacking smokiness as well. This is a great keemun for people who don’t like strong keemuns. They say it has red wine or muscatel flavors, but so far I haven’t picked that up. I will have to try to sharpen my senses….

Drinking this again! I really like this one. Malty, bold, and smooth – seriously good plain or with milk/sugar. After this I only have enough for another cup, but I may save that for a rainy day!

Rich, full, malty, and just bold enough for breakfast or an afternoon break.

This tea is great! Remarkably chewy, malty and bold but never bitter. There is a reason that I find myself wanting this tea multiple times per day!

This is a really great, malty, chewy, smooth, and bold tea. I really like that this particular Yunnan is not peppery, but stays on the malty side of things. I’ll edit as I move through the infusions.

Yes, it is almost 1am. Yes, I am drinking black tea….no, I’m not sure if I will be sleeping anytime soon.
I needed something strong to get the grass taste out of my mouth after the sencha fiasco…this is working and is also very good.

Okay, silly question: This tea tastes remarkably similar to the Golden Monkey sample I’ve had. I know that Golden Monkey is from a Yunnan, but do they do anything special to it for the tea to be called Golden Monkey? Or is this Yunnan pretty much the same thing?

This tea is really, really good. Dark brown in color, highly malty, and slightly sweet – everything I think a Yunnan should be – good for 3 delightful infusions either plain or with a splash of milk.

This turned out better today than previously but it isn’t robust enough for my liking.

This is a decent, basic black tea. I tend to like my blacks teas a little bolder, but this will do in a pinch.

On the plus side, I should be receiving some awesome teas in the mail soon! I placed a small order with Harney and Sons and 52teas this morning!

Congrats! You are a winner of Chrine’s First Comment Contest. I think I made a mistake just announcing it in a comment after a tealog and not PMing the winners as well. So here is a PM and the original comment is below. Please PM me your addresses and let me know if you’re interested in any teas in my cupboard as well. (I don’t think you’re following me, so I couldn’t PM you.)

This tea is very mild to have for breakfast, but it is very smooth. The taste is of a basic black tea without any special features. This is decent, but I prefer my breakfast teas to be aggressive.

Vegetal aroma and taste. Pleasant tho. Not overly so. Lightly toasty, perhaps??? Nom.

Finishing up a sample; this is really not a breakfast tea—-there’s too much there for half-awake tastebuds to have to think about it. But light and fruity and nice.

Made on a rainy Sunday afternoon … dark red-brown, deep and winey. I think this one needs a bit of care; I can see how it would go bitter really easily.

Expect a longer review later on www.itsallabouttheleaf.com (I’ll update as I see it posted) but this is one mighty intriguing blend - I continue to be fascinated that blended tea without further flavorings or additives can taste like a million different things.

Another from TEAEQUALSBLISS. This is a British legacy style tea – strong, with dark flavors, not astringent but full bodied. It takes milk and sugar very well, so I think I would be likely to use it for breakfast or with a hearty tea-time snack, but probably not with more delicate tea cookies or cakes. It would also go well with a meal. Be careful with your timing on this one! Oversteeps easily, but worth watching the clock for.

This is slightly musky scent…maybe more like a black tea and dry ice type smell??? Not sure…

It’s VERY dark in color.

This is an extremely bold BLACK tea – nice for the mornings – great for corporate meetings as a coffee alternative – ideal for that afternoon pick-me-up…and so on!

Different but interesting and purposeful

Again, I’m keeping these posting notes short and sweet because I can’t really taste anything…what ever this is I hope none of you get it…it SUCKS!

Anyhow this is very smooth on the tongue, throat, and I really hope to drink more comforting teas thru-out the day. Let the Tea Healing Begin!!!!!

Do you have anything with ginger in it? I know you’re not a big fan of ginger, but when I’m feeling sick, I find that a strong ginger tea really helps when I’m sick – plus, with the muted taste buds, it is something that I’m able to taste.

Tabby

Aww, I have it, too! Hope you feel better soon. :(

This tea reminds me of when…

…you really want to meet someone because you HEARD they were nice and when you actually meet them they are everything you HEARD they would be but at the same time they aren’t over-the-top eccentric but they are far from boring.

I’m going to be reviewing in more length TOMORROW…here…

This was probably the firsrt “good” tea I ever bought, and it is still dear to my heart. This is a favorite Keemun, since it doesn’t have the bitterness I have found in some. Strong, but smooth.

I’m finishing up the last of this tea this morning. It is still good, but I don’t think I’ll repurchase. The tea has been edging on more astringency than necessary the past few cups I’ve had of this. I enjoyed it while it lasted, but there are other teas I’d rather have in my cupboard.
Seriously, though, if you enjoy red wine even a little, this tea is a must try!

It has been quite awhile since I’ve had this tea, but I’m glad I grabbed this today. This is one of the few breakfast blends that is obviously special from others. The tea is slightly drying today, but that makes sense because of the winey aspect.

Very smooth and only slightly astringent – pretty much a standard Keemun with something just a bit extra.

It has been awhile since I’ve had this one and it is still just as good as I remember.

I made this because I didn’t know what else to have. I’m glad I chose this one, it was really good. On to caffeine-free!
