Hawaiian Natural Tea

Recent Tasting Notes

Following up on this morning’s pink pineapple with this flavored tea I took from my aunt’s tea drawer.

Once I got over that the pineapple flavoring tastes like candy, I actually like it a quite a bit. The strawberry isn’t necessarily distinct. It melts into that piercing pineapple in, what Cameron B. noted, a strawberry jam kind of way.

The base tea is fannings but it does give a nice body so that the flavoring isn’t necessarily a separate entity. The earthy mix of Hawaiian-grown green and white tea leaves something to be desired beyond its astingent-tannic character. I mostly taste sour hay and minerals. And I feel very warm like I’ve been in the sun, so that’s nice :) I’d have this if it were offered but it’s not something I’d seek out.

Another Longs Drugs purchase!

I’m not a fan of black-green tea blends. It makes the steeping ambiguous and I never feel like I’m tasting both of the teas. In this one, it sort of looks like black tea but tastes like green tea. And it’s that same highly mineral green tea that I didn’t love in their Pineapple Strawberry tea… Something close to a gunpowder style I would think.

Anyway, this smells just like canned passion orange “juice” when it’s dry, but the steeped tea just tastes sort of generically fruity. I do get some of the orange, and it’s that Hi-C sort of orange flavor, which makes me slightly nostalgic for a McDonald’s happy meal ha ha.

It’s fine and drinkable but nothing special.

This was a random Longs Drugs purchase in Waikiki, along with a couple of other boxes of teabags.

I quite like the flavorings here, the strawberry is the strongest note and it’s a sort of sweet strawberry jam flavor. The pineapple adds a touch of tartness and I like the combination. I feel like strawberry & pineapple would make a nice jam together… I’ll have to look into that. Anyway, it’s a shame that the green tea here is not good, it has a strong mineral/smoke note to it that conflicts with the sweet and fresh fruity flavors.

Ah well, still nice to try!

I don’t know what this smells like. No, I do but it keeps changing. Sometimes it strawberry, others it’s pineapple. From the same cup. It has a sort of fruity flavor. But mostly it’s bitter. I may have over-steeped it, though. That sometimes happens at work. Probably not something I’d drink again.

Sweet dry smell. mmm strawberries. When brewed still smells good but not as much so when dry. What’s weird though is that is looks like black tea. But it says it’s green and white tea. Maybe they just used a darker green…

It was only in there for a few seconds it seemed before I took it out. Probably around a minute but it felt quick. Very little strawberry essence and even less of pineapple but it’s still there.

It’s a lot better then the last tea I tried by this company. The names they give the teas are so good sounding you just can’t help but want to try them. Also don’t like that they say natural flavoring instead actually saying what they put in it. Overall the flavor is okay. All I taste are the green and black tea leaves. When I tried this tea again I added a few lemon slices and I really loved the enhanced flavor.

I’m not too impressed with this tea. I can smell the mango and peach, but there really isn’t much of a taste. Granted, I think this tea was purchased over a year ago (I found it in my boyfriend’s mom’s tea box). I will try hotter water and a longer steeping time if I decide to prepare it again.

Barely a scent. Taste is slightly orange. Can’t get much Papaya if any. It’s light brown in color. Not very impressed. It’s not bad but it’s not great or memorable.

I love iced passionfruit tea in the summer, so I don’t like it when passionfruit tea is not done well. That’s too bad, the name holds so much promise!

Tea bag doesn’t smell like anything…once in water POW! Aroma! A lovely scent of both Pineapple and strawberry. It’s a very light, light brown color….kind of like an Oolong. It’s juicy and light. Not overly flavorful but semi-yummy.
