I’ve completely forgotten where I purchased this tea from. My best guess is the Chicago Tea Festival from Qi Life Tea. And once again this is a tea I haven’t open yet. I haven’t bought a single tea (save for that one for my husband) and I’m quite proud of my sip down progress.
Anyway, I’ve gone through a few infusions of this tea thus far and honestly, it’s nothing special. I feel rude saying that because I know it takes time to develop these teas but this one just isn’t producing any notes that make me go whoa. It’s like a normal black tea you drink in the morning. Good enough to be consumed daily but no hints of wow.
This tea definitely benefits from hotter water. Steping with 170f -180f doesn’t reveal nearly as much flavor as I think it holds. 197 now and the aroma hits right away.
Flavor: mineral. A bit chalky, wet rocks, charcoal

“Good enough to be consumed daily but no hints of wow.”. So glad you wrote that, because it crystallizes the difference between two approaches. In contrast, I am seeking teas that wow me, so that I CAN drink them daily. Mediocrity goes to the compost heap! Maybe because I’ve reached a stage of life where, as I’ve recently said elsewhere, I now choose to no longer buy and eat “stems and pieces” in order to save a few pennies! (I vastly prefer fresh mushrooms) I suppose great tea every day is a bit unusual for the bucket list, but there we are!
I’ve had a few red oolongs that fit this profile. They’re mild, sweet, inoffensive, and forgettable.
