Recent Tasting Notes
This is from TheLastDodo a looonnnnggg time ago. (Thank you!) Poor sencha, never wrote a note. It’s stored in a clear plastic container, so I figured if it’s in any light ever, it’s already a lost cause. The “leaves” are incredibly tiny for being stored in a non-crushable container. I wasn’t expecting much. But no, the flavor is good enough for an older sencha! Buttery, sweet, it actually tastes like matcha (which makes sense if the leaves are this small.) No bitterness! How? The second steep was also pleasant, though nothing spectacular. But I expected MUCH worse at this point. I know I said I wouldn’t write notes for old teas, but that only applies to teas I have already written a note for. TheLastDodo had a note from 5 1/2 years ago, so I’m glad this poor neglected tea is hanging in there.

I bought this tea last spring at my local Natural Grocers. I have had a lot of other senchas since then, and now I am not so wow’ed. The leaves are half chopped with some long flat, intact leaves still present. This is still a really nice tea. It’s dark green, brews up a strong, vegetal cup of deliciousness. It’s also not fussy at all. It can get a little astringent if I forget about it, but I wouldn’t expect anything less. A great daily green, for sure.
I bought this tea on a whim while shopping one day, and don’t regret it! This flavorful sencha is cheap, organic, delicious, and lasts forever. I infuse each serving up to three times without a loss of flavor. The leaves before steeping are a pleasant silky texture, and the aroma is verdant and warm. For those who love “grassy” teas, this tea will satisfy. I bought it in Colorado where the company distributes, so I am unsure if it appears in stores elsewhere.
