Usual matcha characteristics. A very pleasant vegetal, grassy taste; no sweetness but a joy on the palate. This is a “thin” matcha so the mixture tends to be watery, so adjust accordingly.

Overall, I do recommend trying this matcha just for the experience alone. A good starter matcha, not a bad price for good quality.

Finally got my homemade matcha frappucino. I used this recipe: http://www.food.com/recipe/matcha-green-tea-smoothie-or-iced-latte-133955

But I didn’t have any vanilla syrup, so I dashed in a little bit of vanilla extract.

Upside:
I think it tastes pretty darn good!

Downside:
I have to clean up the mess. And ice cubes are hard to blend, I had a couple of whole ones and big chunks. Maybe I’ll used the crushed ice setting on my fridge for the next one.

I also had to dig an old unused spare McDonalds straw from a drawer to drink it. My bendy straws were too skinny to hack the bigger ice pieces.

All in all, I’d do it again. It’s cheaper, and I don’t have to leave my air conditioned house. And it was fun!

I love the process of making tea with Matcha. I make only 3 or 4 oz at a time, so it’s a quick drink, but that’s all right, it’s part of the “ceremony.”

Sifted the matcha, whisked it, and drank it down. I used more than I normally do, and I am now WIDE awake and ALERT. It kicks in quick too.

I was actually going to try making a green tea frappe, but then realized that I’m out of milk and really low on half & half, and my honey is crystallized. Whoops.

Had to update this tasting note again. Aromas of spinach & seaweed. Powder is bitter. The frothed mixture is sweet. An un-frothed mix with water is bitter. Holds froth bubble & consistency for a long period of time..ex: 15mins.

I must say everything about this matcha is perfect. The shipping packaging, the container, the color, the smell, & the taste are amazing. I purchased this matcha not for adding to desserts or ruin with milk, but to enjoy as a price conscious version of matcha. I absolutely love Gyokuro, & for this to be the ground version of it..is nothing short of amazing. The powder itself is a little bitter without water. Once infused with water, it gives off a spinach smell with a sweet taste. The color of the matcha is a darker shade of “bright green”. I will definitely be purchasing the other 2 varieties from Matcha Source. This matcha is highly recommended for the price & quantity.

sweet and metallic components round out its character to reduce hints bitterness and astringency. Score = 89 on Walker Tea Review #276

I just got this for the first time this week. I tried some at 9pm and didn’t go to bed till 4am! This stuff works great for all-nighters, if you’re a student.

This matcha is fantastic. For the price, it has a vibrant green color & the texture looks great. A small taste test before mixing with water, this matcha is hardly bitter. I’ve been drinking it everyday so far.

Had this today in SoHo: http://matchasource.wordpress.com/
with the raspberry matcha tart. The tea was prepared right in front of me by a cute looking guy. I feel SO caffeinated! The tart was …. well, suffice to say that I could eat it every day.
Too bad tomorrow is the last day this will be available.

Both sound wonderful!

I took a half day off so yes, this indeed was great! I don’t know why but when somebody else prepares food/tea for you it tastes better!

Cofftea

Eh… tea not so much- I’m UBBER anal about my steeping parameters lol. Matcha prepared by someone else is good though.

inguna

Ha, ha: control issues. I can relate but once in a while it’s good just to enjoy the moment :)

Cofftea

lol yeah specifically quality control. I like my tea to be the best it can be- and I tried really hard to not make it rhyme, but I’m sick and I couldn’t think of another way to phrase it lol.

Man, that should be a song lol. They also had a lemon tart with a thick layer of matcha glaze on the top decorated with a tiny speck of edible gold. And maybe it’s a good thing I can’t get that in my neighborhood.

Fantastic for matcha lattes in the morning! Normally grassy and somewhat bitter, the warm milk adds just enough sweetness to balance it all out. I also used this to bake green tea shortbread yesterday, and it came out amazing. The flavor remains present and strong.

I had this tea at Matcha Box, a pop-store run by Matcha Source owner Alissa White. The tea itself was a bit more bitter than some of the thick ceremonial grade matchas I have tasted over the years, but I can appreciate that. The bitterness actually provides additional immune functions, and if I had my sweet while drinking (as is traditional), it would’ve been greatly reduced. Either way, you must try this tea if you are a matcha enthusiast. If you are in NYC, stop by Matcha Box (33 Crosby St, b/w Grand & Broome)…but hurry, it closes at the end of June (1 month only)!

So I came back to Matcha Box for round two of Kama Matcha. They let the water cool a little bit (too hot and you wilt the leaves, even though it’s in powder form) and I snacked on a matcha shortbread cookie (enjoying a sweet brings out the natural sweetness of matcha, and changes the flavor profile).

Long story short, the 2nd round was delicious! My rating is changing as a result :)
