drank Matcha Lemonade Lime by SETA
18459 tasting notes

I feel like I’ve seen other non-tea/RTD products from SETA before, but this weekend was the first time this line of “matcha lemonade” has ever crossed my path. They had three flavours, but because I had limited bag space I only picked up one of them…

Definitely not a shining experience, though. To start, I poured the can into a glass mug to get a look at the liquor. The first thing I noticed was that it was a very clear yellow orange colour. Not matcha-like in any way, but also not really a big green tea colour either. This drink, while marketed as a matcha lemonade, actually has pretty little matcha in it but it does have a more substantial amount of steeped green tea. So the fact it resembled neither was a bit alarming.

The second thing I noticed was the hair that had poured out of the can. It was very, very clearly not my own hair. I did decide to drink this anyway though. For science, and general curiousity.

Look, as a lemonade it’s good. Bright, a little sour and a little sweet. Definitely distinct notes of both lemon and lime. Refreshing. But majorly misses the mark for me as a tea product. I tasted zero matcha or green tea. I also find it challenging to imagine that the other two flavours would be much different since it seems like the same formulation across the board, but with the flavour component switched out.

So… womp womp. I’d rather just buy a more reasonably priced lemonade.

You’re a brave soul. If I found a hair in my drink I would be boiling my mouth out without ever taking a single sip.

The incongruity of finding hair in your tea gave me a strong visceral reaction! I understand things happen in a factory, but I i’m not sure I could have drunken this. “Steep, rinse, repeat”! You are brave, indeed!

Not sure that this exactly makes it “okay”, but I think it didn’t phase me as much because I’ve worked in the industry long enough to know that a rogue hair is by far and away one of the more tame things to find in your tea. But a younger version of myself for sure wouldn’t have been able to stomach the idea of even taking a sip.

@Roswell Strange: Yes, you are right, of course! And after the tongue, the next stop is the acid pit of our stomach! Humans can safely eat an awful lot of things without worry. Sometimes I have to remind myself that my carrots, beets, parsnips, peanuts, and potatoes, all grow IN THE DIRT, amongst bugs, bird poop, and all sorts of things I wouldn’t normally eat. But you know the saying: “What’s worse than finding a worm in your apple?” Answer: “Finding half a worm!” Oh well.
