Thanks VariaTEA for the tea! It took me a while to get around to trying this one, but I’m definitely happy I did – it was pretty interesting!
So I was totally expecting a floral tea because this is “marigold” and that’s a flower. So, you know, obvious connection. The other Tea Trunk teas I’ve had have been similarly straight forward. While this definitely WAS floral in a sort of perfumey kind of way and did have the grassy profile I’d expect from a green tea there was something else to it as well. It’s actually pretty strongly citrusy!? I mean, I can see the lemongrass in this one and how that would influence the flavour to be more citrus heavy – however I swear I also taste oranges a fair bit and that’s confusing me.
Although, orange or not this was pretty pleasant and a good late night option.
I was all excited for a Saffron tea but what I got instead was a light and creamy chai. I enjoyed this but was disappointed the saffron didn’t play a bigger role. Check out my full review here: http://sororiteasisters.com/2017/05/27/saffron-kahwa-from-tea-trunk/
Thank you VariaTea for the tea! Sorry it took so long to get around to trying this one.
Honestly? I expected it to be a LOT more lemony than it actually taste. However, it’s not bad though. The green tea is actually pretty strong; it’s both grassy and kind of kelpy. It reminds me a lot of Sencha, though I don’t know if it actually is. The lemon comes through in the undertones; it a bit sweet but mostly tastes like lemon zest/rind to me. Maybe some sugar or honey would really make it pop? It’s not bad for a bagged green overall, though!
EDIT: Darjeeling green tea, apparently. Interesting!
So this tea comes from VariaTEA – it’s my first tea from this company! Turns out, like her, I made the mistake of thinking the flavour of this was inspired by the drink/cocktail instead of the actual location.
I was very surprised when I took my first sip and it was so strongly spearmint flavoured, with milder citrus undertones. I’ve only had a proper Long Island Iced Tea like twice, and to be honest I kind of hated it – but one thing it definitely did not taste like was mint. That said, this was delicious. I’d totally drink it again, but also I think it would be well suited as the base tea for a tea cocktail as well; maybe like a Mint Julep type thing?
I feel like I had this before: http://sororiteasisters.com/2017/01/03/lemon-green-tea-from-tea-trunk/
well i was PRETTY sure this would not be something that would be up my alley, so i’m not going to rate it. VariaTEA let me have this sample…likely because they like tormenting me, knowing i’ll try anything and everything…even blergamot teas!
This tastes like rosewater smells. It’s like drinking a mouthful of rose potpourri. Gross. So not for me…though i’m thinking that it might be something that our friend keychange might enjoy.

This is an interesting tea, full of spices and vegetables and something bright trying to break through. A hint of licorice here, a wisp of mint there and the whole time it is savory and green. It’s like a tasty veggie side dish. I am not sure how I feel…
Flowers! It’s like perfume sorta with that slight dryness and the spice you’d find in like lavender or dandelions. I wish I could describe this better…I think I will add the other teabag to my tea twins package I am working on and hopefully she will be better at explaining this tea.
So I used one teabag for me and one for my friend. There was a fair amount of vanilla pods in the teabag so I was excited but sipping on this tea I am finding it very monotone. There is a light floral vanilla and that’s it. I feel like the base could contribute more to round out the flavor but it’s quite weak for a black base. I didn’t realize this was a black oolong blend so maybe that is playing a role.
This tea has the most adorable packaging. In fact, I may have purchased this for the packaging. Which I guess is not the best reason to purchase a tea since at the end of the day you don’t drink the packaging. Alas, the tea is just not as exciting. Actually it is very bland. No berry flavor to be found and mostly there is the slightest hint of peas from the base and even that isn’t particularly present.
I had this once before but it cooled long before I got to try it and I just assumed that was why it was flavorless. Turns out its just the tea :(.
