Mastress Alita’s Monthly Sipdown Challenge
January 2022 → A cream-flavored tea

I don’t usually care for the EG blends with lavender, but this one wasn’t overpowering like some can be. The base was strong and fortifying – I really enjoyed it.

Such a nice treat for a Saturday morning. I’m really surprised I never tried this one when Teavana was open. If I did, I never left a note about it here. It’s a fluffy marshmallow bergamot delight.

Another gift from a friend.

Drinking this cold today. I had it warm over the weekend and thought it would be a good candidate when chilled; it is better cold, in my opinion.

The description on the container states that orange is the key flavor in this, but I don’t taste that at all. I taste mango, pineapple, strawberry, and some sort of artificial candy flavor that reminds me a bit of Hawaiian Punch. It is fine if I am in the mood for something like that. It isn’t something I’d grab if I was in the mood for tea, though, since you can’t taste the white tea in it at all.

Overall, I’ll save it for when I am in the mood for something fruity to drink—it’s definitely a healthier option than Hawaiian Punch! :)

Something I received as a gift. I was pleasantly surprised by this tea! As someone who generally drinks heavy, black teas, the description didn’t appeal to me very much initially but I have grown to appreciate it for what it is: a light tea—perfect for evenings. The lemongrass is the strongest flavor, with spearmint undertones. Sadly, I don’t taste the green tea at all. I appreciate having this for times when I am in the mood for something completely different than my usual.

Mine was made by a Starbucks barista so perhaps they made it poorly. The beginning flavor was light and not noticeable different from a normal green tea. End flavor tasted like a pile of cut grass that had been sitting for a couple days. Drinkable but barely.

Got a cup of this from Starbucks and it over-steeped on the car ride home but I was just so excited to have a cup of plain green tea that I didn’t care. It’s vegetal and perhaps slightly nutty-tasting. It was also sweet aside from the slight bitterness from having over-steeped and buttery with notes of seaweed in the aftertaste. It was too early in the morning for me so I wasn’t really paying too much attention to the cup aside from how much I enjoyed it.

This doesn’t have much flavor, even with less water, so I’m leaving the tea bag in. I think I’m picking up some pineapple flavor? I don’t really like this so I’m putting it in the fridge to see if it’s better cold. Will follow up later.

Later . . .

This is gross. Being cold doesn’t help it at all. It’s a drain dump for me.

Note: This was a sachet from Publix, not an old Teavana loose leaf blend, so I don’t think this was due to age.

Weird, I remember people going wild for this one when it first came out. I haven’t tried it.

It may just be my taste preferences. I was never a big fan of Teavana’s Pineapple Kona Pop either, at least not by itself, but my husband loved it.

Sipdown! (61 | 265)

Had one wrapped sachet of this from a swap.

It’s quite good actually! I’ll be honest, I never expect much from Teavana… But this has a lovely rich vegetal and nutty flavor. Smooth and comforting, and very good for a teabag!

I could definitely see this being a nice option for a good bagged green tea, but I’m a homebody so I have no need for teabags, heh… XD

I also own some of this very, very old tea! I’m glad it seems to be holding up.

Cameron B.

I think mine may have been semi-recent, as it said Starbucks somewhere on the wrapper…

Leafhopper

Ah, that makes sense. I have some of this tea from when Teavana was still an independent store.

gmathis

I haven’t been in a Starbucks for years, but need to burn a small gift card. May have to see what they carry in the way of Teavana items locally.

AJRimmer

Oh I have a Starbucks gift card too and didn’t even think of that! Thanks for the idea, gmanthis!

drank Monkey-Picked Oolong by Teavana

This tea is really not as good as I remember from years ago. Possibly that is in part because the tea I have is a few years old (though well-stored). It has a marked minerality, and is a bit astringent and quite drying in texture. I think my initial favourable impression of it was probably due in part to its being the first loose leaf oolong I ever tried, about a decade ago now. Having tried many good oolongs since then, it no longer seems as delicious.

This was the first oolong I tried and fell in love with as well. I’m not surprised it wasn’t as good as I remember.

#tiffanys2021sipdown Tea #48 overall / Tea #15 for February
#drinkwhatyouown January spot 20/25

Tuesday 2/9 So from Starbucks when you used to get free refills on brewed coffee/tea while in house I’d sit around in Starbucks and get “refills” of teabags and just put them in my purse as I would continue drink whatever tea/beverages I had with me. Anyway, this was 2 teabags best by almost 4 years ago, brewed lukewarm and plain.

DrowningMySorrows

Wow, they gave you new teabags for refills? Most coffee/tea shops around here think a tea refill is just giving you another cup of hot water for your already used teabag.

Tiffany :)

I used to buy a regular priced drink and probably some sugary snack then sit and read a book or play on my phone… then yes my free refill of coffee or tea would be Teavana teabags (they’d let me pick from the assortment they had).. but obviously this was years ago, I haven’t sat around at a Starbucks in quite awhile!!

Backlogging this was a tea bag hopefully the same tea. Added some sugar. I tasted cinnamon maybe a little clove and Abit of roobios. This tea was a decent tea. Wished it had another tea base. Favorite tea companies?

You might try White Chocolate Peppermint by Celestial Seasonings, a pleasant wintry mint with a hint of chocolate.

Thank you very much Michelle.

Well, steepster is naturally the place to find everyone’s favorites. You could start by just clicking on the ‘teas’ page and seeing what the highest rated teas are…

tea-sipper

But also many of those teas on the ‘teas’ page might be discontinued. I have a list of my favorite shops on my profile page anyway?

Thank you very much tea-sipper.

I had Peach Tranquility years ago and love it. I found sachets recently at the grocery store. This version tasted slightly off, like the peaches were on the cusp of going rotten. The other flavors were nice but overall a disappointing experience.

Advent tea
Anise was the first thing I smelled and tasted in this first steep. There is a sweet cinnamon note lingering too. Can’t taste any of the bitter, smoky mate, and the clove/cardamom you’d expect from a chai is muted as well. This is a nice warming cinnamon, licorice chai. A nice choice for a tea advent!

Advent tea
I seem to be behind on my advent, my excuse is that I was traveling this week. This is strawberry with a slight edge. If it had a salty taste I’d say it was a margarita, but this is sweet like a a strawberry pop tart. Festive for this time of year, I could see this in the punch bowl at an office Christmas party. If I still worked in an office, or we could still have Christmas parties.

drank Shanghai Orchid by Teavana

This became my favorite white tea for some time due to the amazing floral notes. But since the strong floral notes were so unique, it was only a “sometimes” tea for when I was in the mood for those flavors. I was sad when Teavana discontinued it, and have never found a suitable replacement since.

This was likely the tea blend that got me into loose leaf tea over a decade ago. Teavana often had this as a sample tea, and while I’m not a huge fan of either of the individual teas alone, they blend perfectly. As someone without a sweet tooth, it’s just sweet enough, and can be enhanced with some rock sugar if you like. Very refreshing for a hot tea, and was my staple blend for many years.
