I love the heat of this tea. It warms on cold winter days.

The turmeric trend continues to find its way into my Sips by box.

I love the way this tea smells. Turmeric and cinnamon take the lead in the aroma. I see a very large amount of cinnamon chips and ginger root, but also some unusually big cardamom pods that have been sliced in a + shape. I guess that’s to help release the flavor.

Since I only had 4 teaspoons of this tea, I didn’t add milk. I use a 24-ounce tumbler, and I was afraid that it wouldn’t be strong enough. I was right, I believe. The flavor is just fine without the milk. Turmeric takes the lead, with ginger and cinnamon next. I really like the cinnamon they used. Reminds me of a snickerdoodle. However, I think I just don’t love turmeric. I find it kind of medicinal and off-putting. Like ginger’s ugly cousin. It leaves me wishing this was a regular chai, because if it was, it would be perfect.

EDIT: This turned the inside of my tumbler a gross shade of yellow. I hope it washes out easily…

I’m not a fan of turmeric in tea, either. It’s a bit too earthy or something.

I threw some of this into a mango smoothie the other day. With vanilla yogurt (it was all I had at the time) and some peppermint matcha. Oh and a ton of ice. It turned out really nicely!! Not overly sweet, which is what I wanted to avoid. The mint made it super refreshing and balanced out the other spices perfectly. Now, my peppermint matcha is pretty old so the potency is kinda meh. But it was super strong when I first bought it.
Anyhow. I’ll totally try this combo again if I can!
I’m not so big on this one as a straight up tea, which I kinda expected. Definitely needs a latte style treatment. Normally with chai I don’t bother heating up the milk because I prefer the spice balance when I just add some dairy milk. But this one? it’s kinda bitter with just a few dashes of milk. And I found the same with almond milk as well. So next up, I’ll see if I can do it up cooked in a big pot-o-milk.

Also! I added some to soup. That was really good. But I’ve made three or four soups in the last few weeks and I can’t recall which. Woops.

Mango with Peppermint? Interesting combination. Glad it worked out I’d be fearful to pair those two together.

Ah sorry I thought I replied to this! yeah I wasn’t sure at first. But something told me it’d go well and I’m still not sure what exactly haha

Hot latte from tonight, using cashew milk!

This was nice – I should have measured the amount of powder that I used (I just blend measured/guesstimated) because it was actually the perfect balance of thick, warming and just a little spicy turmeric notes alongside a sweet, nutty and distinctly cashew taste. This was like the perfect golden latte, and I’m pleasantly surprised how well the cashew milk worked with this! It felt like a great fall/autumn treat!

Overnight Oats!

Mixed this into some overnight oats – along with a turmeric infused honey, some spicy Haitian peanut butter, cashew milk, and chia seeds. It was the spiciest overnight oats recipe I’ve made yet but it was also still really delicious: sweet and creamy with a distinct note of peanut butter on top of the bold turmeric flavour.

Also fluorescent yellow – which definitely caught some eyes as I was eating it at work…

Used this in a tea egg recipe for a party recently. I wrote more in depth about this on this tasting note here: https://steepster.com/roswellstrange/posts/385037#likes

As well as on instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bra7Ua_l8wK/

So check out those two links if you’re curious. Mostly I’m just writing this note for my own records to make sure I have it documented that this was used in that recipe.

Golden Milk; aka Turmeric latte.

I had to add a lot of agave to this one (three pumps) for it to not be overly spicy to me. Stupid delicate white people taste buds…

However, once I’d added in that agave I wound up with a really satisfyingly smooth latte. Definitely had spice to it (turmeric and cinnamon notes), but wasn’t too intense for me. Instead it just had a really warming, comforting feeling. The kind of latte that you’d want to slowly sip on during sweater weather. Of course, maybe it wasn’t as intense because MUCH of the powder I used ended up separating and sinking to the bottom, which resulted in one SUPER INTENSE last slurp that had me reeling with how powerful the turmeric taste was…

Made this one up as a latte!

This was a lot more spicy tasting in straight milk than it came across in eggnog so I actually ended up diluting my latte a third of the way through with a lot more milk as well as sweetening it with some honey just to cut down on the intensity of the turmeric/ginger/cinnamon notes, and after I did that it was a lot more enjoyable. Before hand it was just a little too intense for my delicate white girl taste buds.

The main thing in this that I’m not really into is the taste of the black pepper though; I get it’s in there to sort of ‘activate’ the turmeric’s wellness benefits or whatever but the taste of it just distracting for me. It ALWAYS pulls me out of the cup. Plus, it does a weird textural/mouthfeel thing that gives the softest bit of “grit” to the cup and I’m just not having it…

But otherwise this is a nice, warming latte.

TASTING NOTE 5555!!!

So, I 100% wanted to do something really special/unique for this tasting note since it’s a pretty monumental number but I realized that while I was waiting to find the perfect tea for this tasting note I was also racking up a pretty substantial queue of things to write about – and I just wasn’t happy with any of the teas I had brainstormed for this note. So, I’m just biting the bullet and writing in the order of things I have queued…

Which means tasting note 5555 is for this Turmeric Latte Blend that I picked up because I was surprisingly really into the Turmeric tea that DAVIDsTEA released this year (Turmeric Glow), especially as a latte. I thought it would be worthwhile trying something similar but new, and I got a coupon code for this company through my Sipsby subscription service, so that made ordering a little more reasonable for me.

Basically this is a powder similar to matcha in preparation – you can make it into a bowl/cup of tea like matcha, but it’s definitely intended as more of a latte sort of thing – hence the name. I’ll definitely try this both straight and as a more traditional latte but the start I thought I’d try this one just cold frothed into some eggnog as more of a holiday type thing. I realize that’s not gonna let me taste the “pure” flavour of the powder right off the bat because the eggnog has such a strong flavour, but it’ll give me a good enough idea I think.

Visually, it’s very interesting looking – REALLY yellow in colour because of the turmeric, but then there’s also tiny, tiny little black flecks which I assume are the black pepper in the blend. Taste wise, I found it quite enjoyable. It’s definitely got some spice to it; and tastes of turmeric but both the ginger and cinnamon come through pretty strongly as well. I don’t actually know what ashwagandha tastes like though so I can’t really speak to that element of the blend. I also thought that the spice really complimented the creamy, sweet eggnog quite well. Even though this isn’t a Chai in the typical sense, I was getting really good chai vibes from the flavour though.

I did let both my mom and little sister try a bit of this one and they both hated it though, for what it’s worth. My sister because of the spice; like me she’s generally just not into things with spice. I don’t think the spice was the issue with my mom – she just didn’t think it went will with the eggnog.

Tumeric Glow really did make the best latte!

Apparently i haven’t tried this one yet. I won this, so not something i would have picked out myself. This is mostly lemongrass with a little bit of turmeric. on the whole very “meh”

too much mint! glad i got this one for free as i’m not a fan. there’s just never a time when i want a straight up mint tea. While there’s turmeric and peppercorns in here, it’s largely mint, with a little of the edge taken off. A decent enough blend, but not one i need.

need to get cracking. Fell asleep drinking this but it was very much peppermint with just a hint of other things in the background – slightly disappointing in that sense, but a lovely mint tea otherwise.

Finished this one up today/yesterday? one of those days. Seriously overwhelmed these days but happy and healthy, so no complaints there. Sad to see this one go – i’d drink it again for sure since it’s a tasty sort of chai and the additional of turmeric made it a little different than your usual fare.

Had this one the other day, along with a bunch of others. Still around and drinking tea but barely have time to make notes between work overload, trying to run 3-4 times a week and holding down the fort as much as possible while my other half works obscenely long days at his various jobs. Im’ going to miss this one when it’s gone. there’s something about the turmeric and their chai that i am a fan of. Even my other half loves the smell of this one in the house when i brew it.
