this is NOT going in my cupboard…bad Cavocorax! who sent this to me, forcing me to drink this right away so as not to increase my cupboard.

I was curious about this one because it’s pretty popular right now and seems to be getting good reviews on the whole. I haven’t yet ordered from WP yet – well beyond my really small joint order with Cavo.

This tea is pretty tasty. I dunno if it’s rock your socks off sort of tea for me, but i’d pick it up again and rotate it in through my cupboard. It’s a chocolatey, malty, vanilla like tea…though there’s a note in there that makes me think of oolongs that made me less enthusiastic about the blend. I think it might? be the vanilla, though i can’t say for certain. On the whole though, a really nice cup of tea that started this insane day for me and set me on the right foot. Thanks Cavocorax!

I am drinking this little lovely while watching the super moon! I love the creamy vanilla scent of this tea. It also tastes a little spicy today. Weird!

I added a little maple syrup, even though I also like this plain. Saturday night yums!!!!

Edit: Now I added kirschwasser! I love tea!!!! Yay!!!

TheTeaFairy

Good tea habits ;-)

This one takes wonderfully to a splash of Baileys, too :)

I am in my tea happy place!!!!

If tea had a gender, I would call this a manly tea. The dry tea smells woody, and I could pick out some hints of grape. Not sure where that came from. There’s a warm vanilla scent, and an unidentified note that I believe is the saffron.

The brewed tea smells warm, and reminds me of a cozy night spent reading in a comfy chair by the fireplace. I am happy to drink it in the Spring, but I will definitely be buying more of this in Autumn because it just seems like it would fit with cooler weather!

This tea is expensive, but I have to say it’s worth it. I mean, real vanilla beans and real saffron are expensive, but I think you get what you pay for here.

I had a rough day, and this tea is giving me a warm, fuzzy feeling. I think some of that is also due to the fact that I am drinking it out of the most awesome Dr. Who mug ever made, but the tea is definitely contributing to the happy.

The tea is intriguing, almost ordered it recently, will do next time around. Glad it made you feel better :-)

SarsyPie

I hope you try it! I hesitated, but I had a coupon, so I went for it. I wish they had a small sample size for people to try because of the price, but I really think this will appeal to lots of people.

This was my anti-stress tea today at work.

So thick and silky smooth, rich and chocolatey and very satisfying.
I have the new blend at home now, so I will try that soon to compare the two.

CALM BLUE OCEANS

DeliriumsFrogs

I’m really interested in seeing how they compare. :)

Dustin

Are you going to try them side by side? That is always fun!

DeliriumsFrogs

I’m with Dustin… that sounds like a PARTY to me. :D

CURSES. I totally meant to, but I was so happy to leave work I left my friggin older bag of North Winds in my desk. :(

This tea is NOM.

I had some for breakfast. Well after I drank something else. What was that other thing…..OMG. I have no idea. I’m losing my mind.

Maybe it was a resteep of something leftover from last night?

Or maybe this was my first cup of the day?

I woke up
Fed baby
Played with baby
Made an omelet
Drank this tea

I feel like I had something else after I fed the baby but before the omelet.

Oh well. It’s gone.

THIS tea, this tea is NOM.

Chocolatey and delicious.

boychik

Who woke up first you or baby?

ohfancythat

We both woke up then went back to sleep. Then I woke her up! :)

Whispering Pines Tea Company

Dude your reviews rock. So glad you use the word nom the way it should be used :)

Whispering Pines Tea Company

I made up a word last year that I use in everyday conversation: Phenomable. Phenomenal and Nommable. Phenomenally nommable. So. Good. :)

Courtney

That word is amazing haha!

ohfancythat

It really is!!

ohfancythat

Though this is a bad day for me to learn this new word…..my Facebook feed is blowing up with people posting Maya Angelou’s poem “Phenomenal Woman”

:/

Whispering Pines Tea Company

Hahaha :) Glad you like the word….use it in your reviews! ;)

Sample sipdown til my order comes in!

Had a cup of this for breakfast this morning. Didn’t have time to really draw it out and savour it, but the chocolatey, malty notes were just as satisfying first thing this morning.

I tried a resteep but I don’t think there were enough leaves for that, it was pretty flavorless.

Thanks Miss B!

boychik

Still no?

ohfancythat

Mushroom soup city :/

ohfancythat

Oops wrong tea, lol

Still waiting on my order!

TheTeaFairy

Hope you get it soon, have you ordered many?

Whispering Pines Tea Company

I really wish Canadian customs were more consistent on the speed they process packages…I’ve had shipments to the same customer take 6 days up to a month. :( I wonder if there’s a way for me to get pre-authorization from them so that my shipments get fast-tracked through customs?

Courtney

I’m so excited for my order to arrive!

ohfancythat

@TheTeaFairy I ordered three :)

@WPTC no worries on my end. I know it will get here….just excited to try them!

ohfancythat

Me too Courtney!

TheTeaFairy

WP, I can’t complain cause I got my order fairly quickly. I appriciate the fact that you ship really fast. Pre-authorization might be something worth checking out, but I have no idea if it’s possible or not…(one month is way too long, I’d go nuts!!!)

Whispering Pines Tea Company

Do you know if all Canadian shipments go through the same customs location, or if there are multiple locations for different areas of Canada?

Courtney

There are multiple locations. Most often I see things go through near Montreal or Vancouver.

ohfancythat

Yes and I’m on the east coast so it would likely be different for me, though I never really paid attention, haha

Whispering Pines Tea Company

Hey! I’ve got a tracking number for you :) I’ll send it in a message once I figure out which order yours was ;)

Received a sample of this from Miss B as part of her stash sale…. Great chance to try some teas before I buy! Big thanks to Miss B!!

Honestly, my tastes are not refined because I feel like you could blindfold me and put this in front of me alongside Laoshan Black and I’m not convinced I’d be able to tell the difference.

To me, this one is verrry chocolatey, maybe even more than LB. Possibly slightly less roasty, but it’s hard to say without both in front of me.

I ended up ordering this recently when there was a 20% off for new customers sale! I don’t regret that decision.

Maybe someday I will do a taste test to see what the differences are, it would be a good learning experience for sure.

I’m really enjoying the chocolate notes in this.

Made it for breakfast, am on steep 2 now and not disappointed!

(212 degrees F for 3 min)

Flavors: Cocoa

boychik

your note just confirmed that I was right. This tea is the base for Golden Orchid. I wouldn’t recognize either. I can see the difference only when brewed side by side

ohfancythat

Oops, I meant comparing it to laoshan black but yes this is the base for golden orchid! I ordered that also, I hope I will be able to pick out the vanilla taste!

boychik

Oh there is plenty of vanilla in Golden Orchid, you don’t have to guess. And lotsa chocolate. But it is not in a MF or Fauchon way. its not perfumery. I’m sorry, I made a comment, but wasn’t clear that I made a reference to a different tea;). Steepster needs edit button in comments section

ohfancythat

:)

So have you tried both North Wind and Golden orchid now? Do you have a preference?

boychik

I’d say Golden Orchid. Richer but you know what, it’s like treat. Not like everyday day. I’m happy I got both. They both should be in my cupboard. repurchase for me when I run out. It was a nice discount, I wouldn’t mind another sale like this.

ohfancythat

Awesome! Hopefully tomorrow my order will finally come in so I can try Golden Orchid

boychik

Fingers crossed;)

boychik

I hope you like it as much as I do

MzPriss

I love both the North Winds and the Golden Orchid. Not being a flavored tea person I cannot believe how MUCH I love the Golden Orchid. You will absolutely taste the vanilla in the GO. Both will be re-stocks when I run out.

ohfancythat

So many good things being said all over Steepster about these two! Yum.

I received my order today. i was so excited to try this tea. its the most popular fr Whispering Pines and i was curious to try. prepared according to the WP instructions. this blend is unbelievable, i didnt imagine how amazing could that be . its chocolaty smooth, bready, vanilla, in other words, perfection in a cup. Nothing artificial. its notes remind me Verdant’s Laoshan Black on steroids. bold and smooth. i made 3 steeps. 2nd and 3rd were pretty good, maybe a little less vanilla, but still were close to the original. I’d say more bread came out. I kept sniffing my empty cup, it smelled like handmade fudge.
i’m very happy that i ordered from Whispering Pines. i placed an order last Friday, got on Monday. And i really love to get handwritten notes. Thank you Brenden

Oh man the anticipationis killing me! Maybe mine will come tomorrow :)

Marzipan

Is it similar to brioche?

boychik

Nope. i think its similar to Laoshan Black. Bread notes not like pastry, but more like rye bread. but again, its how i taste it.

Wow, what a tea! I was a little worried because the dry tea smelled like chocolate, but there was also a sharp scent I couldn’t quite identify. Once steeped, I could just smell the chocolate. Yum.

The cocoa flavor is pronounced, but not overpowering. The tea has a lovely sweetness and doesn’t need any additives to be excellent. I’m really happy with this one. I’ll definitely repurchase.

I’m so excited to receive my order!!

SarsyPie

I hope you got this one, and you really like it. It’s wonderful. I can’t wait to try the others I received!

ohfancythat

I definitely got this one!

boychik

Just got a package 3 min ago. I’m sipping this right now. This tea, I would buy 4 oz of it. It’s essential for MY cupboard. If I’d get it earlier and sample I would participate in this flash sale.

SarsyPie

I’d love a large amount of this, too. But I’m putting myself on tea buying probation for awhile.

boychik

It doesn’t work for me. In my defense I should say I’m very selective. I’m sniffing the empty cup and its like fudge

SarsyPie

I never said it would work. LOL. I may have to start a support group. :)

ohfancythat

I’m in Canada but I hope my order arrives soon! Gah!

SarsyPie

As Tom Petty said, “the waiting is the hardest part”. :p

Skulleigh

That sounds yummy.

The scent of this tea is smooth with a rather strong note of cocoa. Yum! I’m excited to see if some of the same cocoa notes are present in the flavor. Sipping… I’m picking up on a rich, dark chocolate flavor with a bit of bread. I almost want to say that the bread is sourdough, but it’s not quite there. There is a hint of astringency at the end of the sip which pairs well with the dark chocolate, but the rest of the sip is smooth. Overall, I think this is a tasty tea, but it isn’t one of my favorites. For me, this tea doesn’t have anything that makes me say “wow”. It’s not bad and I wouldn’t turn down a cup, but it seems to be a little flat.

This is not your average S’mores tea! It’s not filled with chocolate chips, graham crackers and fake sweetener. And as you would expect, it doesn’t taste the same either.

This is a good thing.

Instead, this tea takes you to the experience of making S’mores. I can taste a little bit of the smoke from the campfire, and beneath that I get subtle chocolate and marshmallow notes. I swear it gets a little sweeter as it cools.

Overall, it’s a very interesting experience!

Preparation

I ordered this one last night.

ohfancythat

This intrigued me but the smokey tea thing scared me out of ordering it

TeaLady441

I didn’t find it to be very smokey – not nearly so bad as a lapsang. You can just sorta get some of it in the mouthfeel but it’s not scratchy on your throat or harsh like some smoky teas. I think you can order this without smoke too!

Sil

you can

Courtney

I also excluded this one from my order due to the smoke. But yay for enjoying it!

I was already sipping on a cup of this when my mom dropped by a flat of fresh picked local strawberries. I continued sipping it while I was cutting up strawberries to freeze and munching on a few. This combination was divine! Who would have thought? I will have to sip another cup of this before I finish off my flat of strawberries this weekend. <3

Early crew calls on Monday mornings should be illegal…. especially on foggy miserable mornings like today. I didn’t drink much tea this weekend, despite being home all weekend and the rainy weather. You’d think that was perfect tea weather, but I was just super busy alternating between cleaning my house and watching Grease on ABC Family… twice.

Anyways, I grabbed this tea this morning on my way out the door basically because it steeps at 180 degrees, so I get the actual flavor using our water cooler at work. Still a delicious green tea with a slightly roasted, toasted flavor. Just what I needed on this miserable Monday morning.

I am quite enjoying this cup this morning. My second go at genmaicha and I like this one much better. Probably because it’s much much more subtle than the last. The toasty flavor is in the background behind the green tea, but its most certainly there. Adds to the warm comforting quality of this tea. The base green tea is very nice, smooth, and not at all bitter. This seems to be a good starting point for genmaicha. I wasn’t crazy about the in your face buttered popcorn flavor of the last one I tried. This is more what I was hoping for in a genmaicha, a subtle roasted flavor. This one is a winner for me.

3/4 tsp in 12oz water.

I love this Tea.
Golden Orchid is the best Vanilla Tea I’ve had so far.
The tea itself has wonderfully malty with notes of rich chocolate and a slight fruitiness, the Vanilla adds a creamy sweetness to these notes and makes for a most delicious tea.

well one of my Adagio IngenuiTea things bit the dust this weekend and I think the other one is on its way out. I’ve had them for several years, so I can’t be too mad, but definitely going to need to invest in another one or a similar one soon. Any recommendations??

This was exactly what I was craving. A good solid and decedent black tea. I definitely picked up on the vanilla this time. After reading that I should shake the bag to make sure it’s all well combined. Definitely need to remember that next time, because this was even better than the first time!

gahhhh… this tea. I got my package from Whispering Pines Tea Company today and this was the first I tried out of my order. The dry leaves smell absolutely heavenly. Like decadent chocolate. I wanted to eat them, but I bet they would not have tasted the way my mind thought they would. haha.

The steeped liquid smells much more subtly of chocolate, and the chocolate flavor is also deliciously subtle. This tea was love at first sip. I will be savoring this and adding it to my must always have or I will cry list.

Thank you Brian and 221tea for sending me a sample of this one. It sounded so amazing, but I was hesitant to spend $12.50/oz without know if it was REALLY worth that much.

Yes. Of course it is. It really, really is. Where’s my credit card? :O
(Oh, I’ll wait a little bit. So much to sipdown first, including the rest of the Whispering Pines samples those 2 sent me!)

It’s like decadent fudge – the chocolate notes are just that strong and with a bit of depth/weight to them. So amazing. I also get honeyed vanilla with this as well. I’m going to resteep this for the rest of the afternoon. I WILL!

Thank you, again.

Another wonderful tea from Whispering Pines! This tea isn’t quite as potent as some of their other black teas, smoother perhaps, but no less flavorful. Caramel is the primary note for me, with a fruity aftertaste that I can’t quite pin down. Very very tasty!

This is a delicious silver needle.
The aroma is sweet to me like honeysuckle, when the water hits it the aroma fill the air with sweetness :)
The flavor delicate but tasty with sweet notes of honeysuckle and hay with a slightly spicy woody almost peppery note with a faint familiar aftertaste that I cant quite place on the first steeping.
On the second steep it was still delicate but not as much as the first Sweet with a little more hay notes this time and the woody note is a little stronger with the same lingering aftertaste.
Third steep is a little delicate again with hay notes still and the honeysuckle notes changed more into just a sweet honey type note kinda like clover honey the woody peppery note is more like sandalwood now and the aftertaste I’ve decided is like Basil as stated in the description.
Fourth steep was weak but still quite drinkable but its probably best to stop at three.
The wet leafe looks like little string beans lol

Flavors: Honey

Me and this tea, we’re going to have a complicated relationship. The firs time I had it, I thought, oh no, it smells like one of those black teas, those ones that smell heavy and manly and not for me. But then, it tasted OK. not fantastic, but I finished the cup while watching an episode of Boy Meets World last night (did I tell you how much I LOVE that show? Im watching the whole series getting ready for the new Girl meets World.).

I wanted to try it again before writing a note so here I am again with the tea. This time I really like it. Remember what I said in my last note about being fickle about my black teas and not knowing if I like them for a while? I am listening to the Beatles and maybe ’cause this music always puts me in a good mood, the tea just tastes better? strange how environment can have such an effect like that.

The tea smells fruity, woody, complex, these are all good traits normally, but often not good for me. The flavor, this particular time around, invokes warm and cozy feelings. Its like teatime Gemütlichkeit (if I might reference some Biedermeier literature :p)

By the way, Im done with undergrad school forever now. finally! finished my very last undergrad paper last night. I am three credits short of 3 separate degrees and Im finally going to graduate school. finally! woohoo!

Tea of the morning. I felt like it had been a long time since I’d last had this one, but apparently it’s only been a few weeks. That just reinforces how much I love this tea. Not having it in my cup for almost is month is way too long. To make up for the time we spent apart I’ve already had three cups of this lovely today. I love the baked bread and molasses notes as well as the salted caramel note at the end of the sip. The resteep was a bit more malty and earthy, but the other flavors continued to be present as well. Really, really enjoyable.

This is just a cup of yum.
