man, today this is really deliciously malty and tasty. it might help that i accidentally overloafed it a little today – as my tasting notes show that i wasn’t sold on it last time i had it. today – this is fantastic. I’ll have to ermember that for future steeps. there’s a little brightness here in among the malty goodness as well but it’s smooth and tasty!

still not sure how i feel about this one. Maybe i’ll try this one gongfu style and see if that helps me settle on how i feel about it. it’s not bad, it’s not great…the flavours are just kinda of all over for me haha

I don’t know what went wrong with this, but it tasted like manure. Literally. Have no idea why….Maybe was a bad batch. 0_0
Glad it was only a sample :S

Fjellrev

Bleeeeeech, poor Ost. :/

Ost

I’m clearly a very picky tea drinker :P

Kittenna

Oh, weird. I very much enjoyed this one. Sounds like something must have happened to it prior to packaging (if it was freshly opened).

Ost

Yeah maybe. I don’t know. Didn’t oversteep it even. Just came out really bad. :S

Jason

Yikes, manure, that’s not good!

Sil

Did you buy this recently? I just picked up the new harvest so I’ll try and remember to try it…..could just be differnt harvest tastes…

Nightshifter

Oh that’s horrilble gag

Ost

I bought it on their BF sale, *Sil. I think I’m probably just super picky haha!

Brilliant stuff!
Aroma of cocoa, and bread.
Taste reminds me of black Dragon pearls, but better!
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a lot more of this to drink up tonight.

I can’t give a rating for this tea because of the grassiness and bitter. It is not my choice of tea. I get it as a sample with my Yezi tea order.

I received this as a sample. This is one of my favorite types of tea as it’s delicious all on its own. Really yummy and comforting.

I drink tea to transport myself to far away lands. When I take a sip of tea crafted with intent, I find myself transported to another place. Throughout the five steepings I got in my gaiwan, I felt as if I was sitting in a rustic log cabin, the smoky fireplace keeping me warm from the cold fog hugging the mountaintop (pardon my cheesiness, I daydream too often lol)
The dry nose had strong notes of dark chocolate-covered cherry. I revisited the cherry flavor on the brew, this time they tasted more like dried cherries. I also got a toast quality as well as a molasses-like sweetness.
All in all I am glad I got more than just a sample of this tea! It’s an enchanting black tea that is not too pretentious to drink every day.

Ahhh I am being bad tonight! I have had a horrible weekend physically and haven’t let myself drink any black teas. But I kept craving them all weekend, but it has been especially bad today….So…I had to give in…
But oh…It was worth it.
I have really been wanting to drink more of my Yezi teas lately for some reason. Wanted a bready tea today, and when I was looking back at my tasting notes of the these teas I have, this one was the closest to being a bready tea.
Got a lot of malty, creamy flavors for the most part. A very subtle hint of bread, but more sweet potato flavors than that.
Still a delicious tea. Had a couple cups of that tonight…I really shouldn’t have had any black tea, but…I couldn’t resist. Steeping one more different kind of black tea and then I will have to go back to not drinking them again till I don’t have to be jacked up on pain killers 24/7. I am happy I gave in right now…I’ll just regret it later haha xD

Got an ounce of this in my Yezi order. Hadn’t tried it before, but the tasting notes on it sounded good, so to me, it was a small risk.
I was totally right!
It is super good! It’s creamy, bready, even malty! The dry leaves smell very malty, which I wasn’t expecting. But this one has the most flavors than all the other Yezi teas I’ve had so far. Going to really enjoy the rest of this one! :D

So, apparently I was the first person to make an order to Yezi on BF. I thanked them for their sale on their thread on here, and while my order didn’t qualify for free tea, the person who runs their account told me that since I was the first person, they’d send me an extra gift. I had forgotten about that until I got my package and found an ounce of this tea! :D That was so unbelievably sweet of them! I can’t get over the generosity of some people-it’s just amazing to me!
And honestly, when I looked this tea up I wasn’t sure I’d really like it. But after trying it, I was pleasantly surprised!
It’s kinda earthy, which I don’t like. But it also is creamy and tastes strongly of sweet potatoes at the same time.
I feel like so many of their teas are creamy. It really adds a lot of depth to the black teas. I really am enjoying them! And this was a fantastic free tea that I will enjoy finishing off eventually! :D Thank you, Yezi!! :D :D

Flavors: Creamy, Honey, Sweet, Sweet Potatoes

MzPriss

This is my favorite of their teas. Love this one

Ost

I don’t know why, but I wasn’t expecting Yezi to be such a great company when I ordered the first time. But man, I was so wrong! Really is a great company!

Nice surprise and great customer service!

Another Yezi tea this morning! The leaves of this tea look quite similar to the Qing Pin I tried last night – they’re thin and mostly dark but have some nice golden spots. Like the other Yezi samples I’ve tried so far, the dry leaves smell strongly of hay, both in and out of the package. This similarity makes me feel like my sniffer is broken! :P

The steeped tea is aromatic and savory. I can smell rye bread along with caraway seed and a strong roasted note. The taste is pretty much identical to the smell. It’s very strongly roasted and I can taste a lot of that caraway flavor, which always makes me think Fujian. And this is a Fujian tea, so I guess it’s warranted. :P This is definitely the sort of tea that makes me feel like I’m eating a meal because of its dense, savory flavors. It reminds me of eating a huge, thick piece of homemade wheat bread.

Flavors: Bread, Herbs, Roasted, Thick, Wheat

Preparation
200 °F / 93 °C 3 min, 0 sec 2 g 8 OZ / 236 ML

Wow, caraway. Now there is a note you don’t see every day.

Another Yezi tea (yes, a black tea at 10:30 PM – I’m living on the edge!). I must say, I find the name quite amusing. I can’t look at it without thinking “Kingpin” and then I imagine this tea at the head of some kind of secret black tea crime organization. Epic. The leaves are rather thin and a mix of chocolate brown with some golden tips. Dry scent is quite hay-like with honey sweetness.

Wow, there is a ton of cocoa in the steeped aroma! I can also smell some caramel and these two notes make an interesting contrast with the savory rye and slight smoky element. Hmm, this tea is definitely more savory than it is sweet. There’s strong and thick rye bread paired with a light smoked meats taste. I think I can taste cocoa here but it’s definitely unsweetened cocoa powder as opposed to chocolate. There’s a very light touch of floral at the end, along with a caramelized sugar richness. Overall, it’s quite good.

“Char, Cream, Floral, Honey, Mineral, Coconut, Orchid, Vanilla”
That is what this tea is described as….
Really? The only two things of all those that I taste is char and mineral. It’s a super roasty oolong. Not a hint of honey or floral or anything else.
Definitely bummed out by this one. :/ Oh well, least it was only a sample!

Flavors: Char, Earth, Mineral, Roasted

Lion

I find that brewing this tea takes a bit of practice and on the heavy end it can taste like char and perfume spray. When brewed more lightly (less leaf/time), the flavors are incredibly complex, the aroma of orchids just fills the room and all those floral/fruity notes become abundant. My first few experiments with it I had just an average opinion of this tea, but as I tried more ways of brewing it, it has become my favorite Da Hong Pao. :3

Oh em gee, I totally forgot that I have these Yezi samples to try! Silly me. I ordered samples during their Cyber Monday sale, and ended up getting 7 samples for under $10. Such a good deal, thanks Yezi! I admit, I chose this one at random out of the 5 black teas I got. They all have Chinese names that I am not familiar with, so I figured I’d just go with the first one I picked up. The leaves are long and thin and somewhat twisty. They’re a lovely dark chocolate brown with some grey spots, and there are a few stems included. Dry scent is very hay-like, though I can pick up on some grain/bread notes as well. I don’t generally weigh my teas, but since I knew it was a 5g sample, I weighed out 2.5g to make sure I would get two good cups out of it (it ended up looking similar to 1.5 teaspoons anyway!).

Ooh, the steeped tea smells delicious! I smell savory tones as well as bread and honey, possibly also a hint of green beans. Mm, yum. This tea is thick and bready and so comforting. I do taste a bit of a vegetal note, and it does remind me of green beans or something similar (edamame perhaps?). It’s definitely more of a savory tea than a sweet one, though I do get a little taste of dried fruit near the end and in the aftertaste along with a bit of caramelized sugar. Yum, so good! What a great start to my Yezi samples!

Cameron, Which Yezi tea have enjoyed the most to date?

Cameron B.

I think I prefer this one so far, but I’ve only tried 2 out of my 7 samples. :)

I look forward to reading your impressions of all 7 of them.

Sad sipdown! This was such a lovely, floral-y tea. I would totally buy this again. Glad to have one less tea in my collection…but come a really awesome sale again, I’d totally pick it up xD Have thoroughly enjoyed this one and am a bit sad that I will not be having it anymore. But hey, gotta make room for more tea for later!

I’m nearly out of my 1oz bag of this tea that I got on their BF sale! D:
Brewed this one up to take to work with me today. My new tea tumbler didn’t keep it hot enough though so kinda had to hurry and drink it fast when I got to work and realized that the tumbler was a failure. xD
But even lukewarm the floral flavor is maintained and still pretty good. Wouldn’t wanna drink it like that all the time or anything but was still nice. Just wish It would have lasted longer :(

Had this one earlier. Wish I could have had more than just one cup of it since it resteeps so well! But I only was able to have one :(
Not a very festive tea considering today is Christmas Eve. I’m just not feeling it today. >< Hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas Eve though!

Another fantastic oolong! This one didn’t have any butter smells or flavors at all. It was very strictly floral. Which I’m totally down with.
Though I feel like it has less depth, and is slightly less strong than the other Tie Guan Yin I had the other day from Yezi. Which is kinda sad, but I really like this one too. xD So we are all good, haha!

Oh my goodness. This tea!
I only steeped it for like 2 minutes and it’s crazy strong!
The steeping aroma smells faintly of butter, but not much else. So I wasn’t expecting it to have such a strong flavor.
I’m so glad I was wrong! The buttery notes take the edge off of the floral flavor which dominates this tea. It makes it a lot smoother, even though it’s not a real strong flavor in this.
I just love floral oolongs. They make me so happy! So happy to have gotten a sample of this one. Beautiful oolong. I thought I was gonna try a few of the samples I’ve gotten today, but I find myself hung up on this wonderful tea! ^^

Mmmmm! I’ve got a sample of Yezi’s Tie Guan Yin to review at some point. Can’t remember if it’s Master Grade or High Grade, but I’m looking forward to it nonetheless. :D
