This is my favorite bedtime tea, and if it didnt make me so sleepy, it would be my favorite tea period. The most delicious of all, I look forward to this delicious bedtime treat. It is herbal and has a sweet aftertaste.

I really like this one, but I make it in an enormous mug that holds at least 16 oz of water. It tempers the licorice flavor nicely.

This is one of those ‘take it like medicine’ teas for me. Yogi always uses so much licorice in their darn blends! They could make licorice-free versions and make me very happy. What keeps me coming back to Yogi (besides how effective the teas are) are the little messages printed on the tags. Good Earth Teas used to do that, but now they have plain white tags. Tonight’s tea fortune is “Real happiness lies in that which never comes nor goes, but simply is.”

A little philosophy with your tea, I like it.

The tea smells good but the taste is pure licorice. Oh snap, stevia? I knew this tasted sweet. Yuck. Like I said, take it like medicine! Hopefully good night soon.

I…don’t understand how one puts kombucha into a tea bag. I am pretty sure that’s some kind of ploy to get you to buy this one for medicinal benefits. Like similarly I’m not trusting anyone who claims to have yogurt probiotics in a tea bag either or something.

So no, this doesn’t taste like kombucha, and I doubt whatever is in here to pretend to be kombucha has any semblance of drinking actual kombucha because the whole point of kombucha is to have the live stuff in there. I highly doubt that stuff survives being turned into a powder or whatever’s going on in teas like this.

For what it actually is, it’s not too bad, but I think it tastes terrible hot. When I let it cool off, the plum and passionfruit flavors were stronger. Before it was just the lemongrass and mint with a little fruity aftertaste.

I wouldn’t drink this again.

Terri HarpLady

Even if they did dehydrate the Kombucha & bag it (which I suppose is possible), the heat of the hot water would kill any actual live cultures (if they survived being dehydrated to begin with). :)

Tamm

That’s a great point Terri! I know lots of people who make miso with boiling water and I always try to pass on it because I’ve read that temps. that high will kill the “good” stuff in it.

Terri HarpLady

Right! It’s the same with kraut. If your kraut actually has live cultures (I make my own), as soon as you heat it up, that’s gone.

This is OK, taste-wise. No problems there. But it is not at all like drinking kombucha. Take this as a kombucha-FLAVORED tea, not as a true digestive aid. For that you will need real kombucha tea.

Vaguely minty, strange taste. And I’m feeling a little nauseous… Not sure if it actually is the tea… I do feel more relaxed so I guess I will try again sometime to test it out.

BB #5 for today. I received this one in a swap – I think it was CupOfTree but I am sorry if I got that wrong! Forgive me!

This has a WHOLE LOT of ingredients going on but all I can really pick out above the rest is the Licorice. It’s very herbally and it’s not really my fave taste by a long short BUT if it DOES work for mentally clarity…I suppose it does what it’s supposed to, eh?

I’m conflicted. I want to rate this low but like I said if it helps with what it claims I don’t want to rate it low…so I won’t rate it at all (for now) maybe down the road.

I’m darn happy I got to try this tho! Thanks a bunch!!

CupofTree

Lol yeah it was me. I haven’t rated this one either yet but the first time I tried it was during writing a research paper and I think it did the job of giving me clarity for at least a little while.

TeaEqualsBliss

I did give me a lil bit of a wake-up so that was good :)

gmathis

I think Yogi puts licorice in ev-er-y-thing!

It was a beautiful day outside today, but this afternoon was very trying. (Family stuff.) I want to go to bed and relax and dream sweet dreams, so I am drinking some of hubby’s night night tea.

It is extremely sweet so I am sure it must be loaded with licorice root. There is a tiny minty hint and lots of flavor that I really can’t identify. I will say I find it extremely drinkable. Of course, it is a tisane, not actual tea. It is almost liquid candy. I added no sweetener.

I will try to update tomorrow to whether it just tasted good, or actually worked!

Hubby drank this sample last night, and happily it smelled far less like butt than Kava Stress Relief! In fact, my sip tasted almost identical to the Celestial Seasonings throat soothing tea, or Traditional Medicinals Throat Coat. It was VERY sweet. Hubby didn’t get ready for bed right away but when he did go to bed, he slept. And he slept through my tossing and turning because the puppy got on our bed and left me no room. And he slept through me getting up at 5:30 am even though I didn’t fall asleep until after midnight.

He said he felt rested this morning and that he had slept well. I will probably keep giving him Get Some Zzz’s, but if I do change his sleepy tea it will probably be this one or CS Sleepytime Extra. I think I may make the dog go back to sleeping with his “sisters” and have a cup myself now and then!

JacquelineM

Awwww Sam is a bed hog!

I haven’t tried it yet, but Mountain Rose Herbs is supposed to have a very effective sleepy tea:

Fidnemed Nighttime Tea

Fidnemed means a sacred and quiet forest grove. Relax and enjoy some of this full flavored infusion blend after a hectic day. We almost called this `Sleep on Rocks’ because it works so well.
Contains: organic Lemon Balm, organic Hibiscus flowers, organic Skullcap, organic Passionflower, organic Hops flowers, organic Valerian root, and organic Lavender flowers.

Whimpy chamomile makes me sleepy as can be, but I wanted to get this for my husband who has a tougher time sleeping.

ashmanra

Thanks for tip! I have seen good reviews on them!

Sam can curl up into the tiniest ball, but when he stretches those longs legs out he is almost as long as I am! Well, not quite, but still…And he wants to lie AGAINST me or draped over my legs so I can’t move.

And hubby always said, “I would NEVER let a dog sleep in my bed!” LOL! He is the one surreptitiously patting the mattress for Sam to jump up!

Jim Marks

I’ll never understand how our teeny tiny dogs can somehow make a queen sized bed seem like a shoe box.

TeaEqualsBliss

Before our Sammy passed…we had 3 dogs sleeping with us!

Missy

My cat has also learned how to hog the bed. He used to try to sleep on my chest which isn’t as comfortable as I thought it would be. Meh he’s a cat they don’t weigh much right? I found I would wake with his every little movement though when he’s sleeping on me.

When he wants out he takes turns with really nice wake up (head butts on the chin and purring) and not nice wake up (sticking claw into the back of the knee or biting little toe).

K S

I can’t stand being hot at night. Our little dog, Spike, insist on laying against me at night. He is a furnace and growls if I try to move him. Spike is our killer chihuahua, jack russell, dachshund, mix. That makes for one little hyper dog that jumps three feet in the air but is sweet doing it.

JacquelineM

K S That has to be one intense little dog :) I love all three of those breeds, and am trying to imagine how CUTE all three of them together must be!

JacquelineM

ashmanra – your husband’s comment made me remember a comment my grandfather made. My grandfather had always had a dog, but his last dog before he died was a Schnauzer who did not like to sleep in bed, but rather under the bed. He exclaimed, “I can’t believe it! I slept with a dog my whole life!” and my mother and I cracked up and looked at my grandmother. He hee. When my grandfather realized how what he said could be interpreted he was hysterical too. The only one who did not laugh was my grandmother!!!

ashmanra

Jim: that is an accurate description of how I feel when Sam sleeps with us!
Bliss: I hope you have wall to wall mattress! LOL!
K S: And I am at an age where I want the room COLD when it is time to sleep!
Jacqueline: is this the grandmother who flung herself on her sister’s coffin? Too funny!

ashmanra

Missy: I think after just one not nice wake up, I would look like this in bed O.O

JacquelineM

ashmanra – yup, same grandmother! :)

My ailment was improving nicely until I was forced to go mow the lawn in 100 degree heat.

So, I am going back to this old stand by to ensure a deeper sleep tonight.

I try to avoid using it too often so that it remains effective, and if I stick to that, it “really works”.

Liz hates the way Yogi teas taste, but I like the licorice esque sweetness.

Preparation
Boiling 8 min or more
Bonnie

Feel better friend! Licorice esque is a cool wordishness.

Hesper June

I hope you arise tomorrow morning feeling refreshed!

ashmanra

I bought Get Some Zzz’s for hubby. Is this better? I like licorice esque, too. Hope you rest well and feel better. My hubby has been sick for almost a week with a summer cold.

Jim Marks

This works. I don’t know if that’s better or not :)

ashmanra

Just remembered I had a sample that my daughter ordered. I gave him Stress Relief instead of this one, but he said it seemed to help! He said his brain wouldn’t stop spinning when he went to bed…lots of changes at work coming, but most of them really good! Still, you need to sleep!

Jim Marks

I know that mental sensation. It is the primary reason I don’t sleep well, in general.

Fever delirium makes it much more acute for me. Ugh. fever delirium is a preview of Hell, I’m quite convinced.

Bonnie

I get that sensation regularly from my migraines …almost like vertigo or being seasick. I close my eyes and play Chant or Russian Liturgical Music very low …drink cool not cold 7 up or mint tea (first I have to drink something high in caffeine which helps migraines) ..
but for cold and nausea …sticking with brat diet (bread, rice, applesauce, tea) helps the tummy and head feel better.

Jim Marks

This is a metaphorical spinning. Thoughts that are caught in a loop going around and around. Tuesday evening I had all the hymns I’d worked hard to chant correctly “stuck” in my head as my fever got worse. Not in a calming way, but in a skipping record on the wrong speed kind of way.

During a bad migraine or fever delirium I’ll be frantically trying to compose software code in my mind to “break” the loop I’m stuck in. Of course, then the code itself becomes the loop.

Bonnie

Methinks both are horrid! I grab my Icon of the Theotokos and cling as I try to keep from spinning off the edge of the planet!

ashmanra

Ugh! I get the thoughts spinning thing sometimes, so that is why I thought Stress Relief might be the better tea for him. If he could quit thinking about work, he could go to sleep!
Next time, I will try the Bedtime tea and see what works best for him, and ask him to compare the effect of those with Get Some Zzzz’s.

Jim Marks

I steep for 10 minutes and drink it 15-20 minutes before turning in.

Yuck. All I can say is yuck. A tea is a tea, so I always love it, but I would rather not drink this again. This tea was only unsatisfying and made me have a sickish feeling in the back of my throat. Yogi tea has yet to impress me…

Fairly strong Medicine-eny taste I don’t hate the taste but it sure isn’t the best either. I’m not going to put a thumbs down because if it helps me get to sleep easier…mission accomplished.

Purchased this because I’ve been having some hectic sleeping patterns lately. Waking up in the early hours for no reason, being unable to sleep in the first place, or just waking up an hour after sleeping. Nothing like insomnia, and it hasn’t been for long, but it’s been annoying!! So here I am, resorting to herbal remedies first.

I was looking for valerian root teas and it was a toss-up between this one and Pukka’s Nighttime blend since both of them have won Great Taste awards… the other one had plenty more liquorice root in it, though, and when it comes down to it, I’m never going to be a fan of liquorice!! I’ll brave Yogi Tea’s love affair with peppermint and cardamom if it means I get to avoid the greater quantity of liquorice!

The fennel is the most dominant flavour here, and then naturally the peppermint and the cardamom, although the aftertaste is aaaaall fennel. I don’t actually know what valerian root tastes like so I’m unable to pick that out. Somehow this brew feels much more refreshing than sleep-inducing, but I suppose it’s just for settling the system? It’s enjoyable, either way — and I’m definitely appreciating the spices sweetening the fennel at the finish of each sip! (I might try the Pukka if I get through this packet and I’m still sleeping badly…)

I bough this tea more out of curiosity than anything else. I have tried bottled kombucha in the past with….not so great results. But as this is mixed with green tea I hoped it would go down better.

The smell is very fruity, like plums or papayas, but there flavour is more minty green tea with a hint of fruit and something tangy which I think is supposed to be the kombucha. It’s not half bad for a bagged green tea, although I was expecting a little bit more kombucha than there actually was.

Had this tea for the first time tonight, mainly because I have been having trouble sleeping lately. I used to hate licorice, but now don’t mind it. If you don’t like licorice you will hate this tea. Reminds me of throat coat a lot, except this one makes me yawn. Fingers crossed I get to sleep tonight :-)

I figured out the ladoo taste — it’s the spearmint and cardamom together. It’s kind of silly that I didn’t instantly point out the cardamom.

I’ve had this tea for the last three days, and I haven’t been able to sleep that well, mostly because I’m super awake after drinking this. I have some dried Valerian root that I’ll put in tisanes, and I’ve noticed that it makes me hyper. …Does anyone else have this problem? I feel like I still have the endocrine system of a child.

gmathis

Have you tried tulsi? I’ve rhapsodized about it elsewhere, but it’s the only sleepytime-mellow-out herbal that actually does what it’s supposed to for me. Doesn’t knock me out, but certainly takes the nervous edge off.

Indigobloom

I use Magnelevures. Natural Calm is the version you can get at health food stores.
Valerian makes my heart race!

Calochortus

It’s good to know that others have odd reactions to valerian — I don’t think I’ll continue using it (because it also doesn’t smell that good). I have tried tulsi — it’s definitely calming! I’m working on a few boxes of Organic India’s tulsi, and I really like the taste. I’ll check out Mangelevures — it looks like it has a good amount of Mg, too, which I’m currently lacking in my diet.

Indigobloom

Let me know what you think! I really enjoy the taste of Natural Calm but it has other effects that aren’t so desirable so Magnelevures it is haha

Once upon a time I was working 22 hour days at least 3 times a week, and it nearly killed me (it was more the work than the length of time, but still). I’ve realized that I get really off balance if I get less than 4 hours of sleep per night, so I checked out Yogi’s Bedtime tea during my year of evil work days. Sadly, after a few boxes, the local co-op decided to cut Bedtime. However, they brought it back and even put it on sale this last week! After long nights of mad NaNoWriMo typing, I kind of need to get back my normal sleep habits…

I couldn’t remember this happening before when I had Bedtime, but I was surprised to note that both the dry teabag and the tisane itself smells exactly like ladoo. Not the dry, chunky, airy kind, but the dense, buttery kind that you have to fish out of the vat of sugar syrup. I even made my mum smell it, and she actually asked if there was any rice in there. While it’s obviously not as sweet as ladoo, the stevia actually makes it taste more like it (and I actually kind of like it in this blend, which is honestly amazing). I know that part of this scent/taste is clearly the spearmint, which I love, but other than that, I’m just happy I’ve found something that’s like ladoo! It’s hard to want to go to sleep knowing that liquid ladoo exists.

Teabag tag quote: “Trust creates peace.”

*Note: Here’s a relatively healthy version of ladoo, in case you’re unfamiliar with this wedding staple: http://www.tasty-indian-recipes.com/indian-dessert-recipes/sweets-recipes/besan-ladoo-recipe/
