drank Earl Grey Cheesecake by 52teas
2201 tasting notes

This sample comes to me thanks to Azzrian! Thanks!

I approach this tea with some trepidition. On one hand, Earl Grey and cheesecake sound just like the kind of flavor combo I would adore. On the other, I have never had success with 52teas in the past. For some reason, they just don’t sit right with my palate, which I always am sad about because he always blends the most interesting flavors.

So yeah, this tea. The aroma of the steeped tea is really interesting. The bergamot is almost floral to my nose, and I can definitely pick out the creamy, sharp, slightly sour cheesecake. It smells like a tea I would really like. First sip, seems good! Not a hint of bitterness from the black tea base. A decently strong bergamot without bitterness there, as well, and for once I do actually taste the creamy cheesecake flavor in a 52teas tea. The bergamot has a lovely floral nature that I think is being partly brought out by the tang of the cheesecake, and it works well (helps that I love florals). I still am not the biggest fan of Assam and so I would prefer this on a Chinese or Ceylon base, and there is perhaps the tiniest hint of a bitter-citrus note in the aftertaste that kind puts a little damper on things. But on the whole it is a delicious tea and you can color me impressed.

Bio

I am tea obsessed, with the stash to match. I tend to really enjoy green oolongs, Chinese blacks, and flavored teas with high quality bases, especially florals, bergamot-based teas, and chocolate teas.

In my free time I am a birder, baker, and music/movie/tv addict.

Here are my rating categories, FYI:
100-90: Mind-blowingly good, just right for my palate, and teas that just take me to a happy place.
89-86: I really really like these teas and will keep most of them in the permanent collection, but they’re not quite as spectacular as the top category
85-80: Pretty tasty teas that I enjoy well enough, but definitely won’t rebuy when I run out.
79-70: Teas that I would probably drink again, but only if there were no preferrable options.
69-50: Teas that I don’t really enjoy all that much and wouldn’t drink another cup of.
49 and below: Mega yuck. This tea is just disgusting to me.
Unrated: Usually I feel unqualified to rate these teas because they are types of teas that I tend to not like in general. Sometimes user error or tea brewed under poor conditions.
