Dammann Advent Calendar, Day 19

I am not super familiar with this tea, although I knew I had it last year, and I drank it this morning without looking it up at all. As I’m drinking, I’m thinking, ah, a hazelnut tea, very similar to Mélange de Chérubins. Probably also with chocolate and orange. Tasty, although like most hazelnut teas (Fleurilege excepted), not my favorite.

Then I came on Steepster to look at the list of ingredients and my tasting note from last year. First ingredients: no hazelnut at all. Very curious. Then, my tasting note, in which I said:

“So I drank this tea without knowing what was in it at all… and wow were my taste buds off! To me it was very hazelnutty, which is not an ingredient at all. I didn’t really get fruitiness from the apricot or orange. Makes me want to have it again to properly wrap my head around it. Weird!”

… Well I have had it again now, and I still feel the same way about it. So I’m rating it this year, because it was tasty, even though it apparently tastes like something totally different than it should (to me).

And I’m caught up since I won’t be drinking the 18th (rooibos)! I couldn’t remember if I have had the black version of this tea, and I have. I enjoyed that one a fair amount, which makes sense. I mean, I love red fruits blends, and plus vanilla and caramel is great.

I would say that the green version is pretty good, but I prefer the black (not surprising). The biggest thing here is that I got the most intense flavor of marshmallow here. Tart and sweet red fruits, and then the aftertaste would bloom into marshmallow, moreso than any other tea I’ve ever tried. I actually really love that about it. What is it about the green vs. black that gets marshmallow? Maybe the green tones down the caramel notes and that’s what they turn into? I dunno, but it’s very tasty. Now I want to try the black version again just to make sure I don’t get marshmallow from that.

I like that you said marshmallow. I had trouble describing whether te tea was creamy vanilla or caramel but I think marshmallow is a better description.

Dammann Advent Calendar, Day 16

I haven’t had this one in quite a while, and I am very happy to have it again. I really do find this one delicious. Normally I don’t really like strawberry-flavored teas, but for whatever reason the jamminess of this one works. Figs, strawberry jam, and honey… yum. This wasn’t a restock for me recently, but who knows, maybe it will be someday.

I forgot my cold brewed tea at home today, so I fished around my boxes for something “plain” to drink with lunch today and came out with the dregs of this one, just enough for one more cup.

Even this is two years old, it was still flavorful and delicious. Really, these oolongs are some of my favorite straight teas, even though I don’t crave them so much anymore. I’m definitely in some kind of “flavored” phase. But I am always pleased when I grab and old favorite. Maybe I should do another “tour” through my cupboard in 2015, every tea from oldest to newest, like I did at the beginning of this year.

Dammann Advent Calendar, Day 14

Soooo behind. I thought I would catch up today but then I forgot yesterday’s and today’s teas at home. C’est la vie.

Anyway, I like this one quite a bit, and I do already have it in my cupboard. Love lychee and rose in combination, and why not just throw in some extra jasmine for maximum floral delight? MMMMMM florals. It is a very rare (and poorly blended) tea that is too floral for me. Haha sometimes I feel like I’m the only one on Steepster that feels that way. :)

Dammann Advent Calendar, Day 14

This is not one of my favorites. I find it super cherry pow in the flavoring, which is probably my least favorite flavor ever. That said, I don’t mind it quite as much this year as I did last year. It’s still very cherry bomb, but somehow not as offensive. Still, I won’t be reordering this one ever!

I am so behind! I actually drank this yesterday but I have been super busy.

This is one of my faves. I love the jasmine and passion fruit blend. I restocked this a little while ago (so I drank some of my loose leaf yesterday) but I don’t often reach for it for whatever reason. But it is delicious.

Yummmmmm. Special thanks to OMGsrsly for getting me a stock of this tea. I had forgotten just how much nougaty goodness was contained within this tea. When the hot water hit the leaves it smelled amazing.

This tea is the perfect example of just when I think I’ve found my favorite tea in nearly every category, some category shows up to prove me wrong. Who would have though I would need a nougat tea?? Or that a nougat tea could be this good? Not me, but I was wrong. Thanks again OMGsrsly!

Dammann Advent Calendar, Day 12

Mmmmmm, one of my favorites. I slurped this one down quickly. Of course, I used my loose leaf and saved my advent sachet for traveling. It’s always convenient because I spend a lot of time around the holidays at houses that are not my own, so the sachets are great to take a long and most of them are Christmas themed.

I love the lemon-cream-toffee flavors of this tea. Another example of Dammann’s caramel flavors and how I love them so.

My favorite Dammann Freres! Do they sell these in sachet form? I have it loose (and love it that way for home) but man the convenience of bagged for travel would be lovely…

I think they only make these sachets for the calendar, unfortunately, it doesn’t seem that they offer sachets of this tea on their site.

Dammann Advent Calendar, Day 10

I remember this one from last year, and I remember wishing it was a black base. Fortunately for me, I don’t really get a bubblegum scent to this one. Maybe a whif of bubblegum from a distance, but when I really smell it I smell the orange and spices and a bit of cream.

I still enjoy this one, and I still wish it was on a black base. I think the creamy orangey gingerbready-ness of it would be so well complemented by a hearty black. Ah well, one less tea to have to stock. :)

Oh, duplicate Dammann names and shifting descriptions!

I checked the website and I see that Flocon d’Épices is 1) now available in bulk (not tinned) and 2) has a different description than it originally did. Now, it really does seem like these are the same flavorings on different bases, in which case I suppose my wish is granted.

Also, they no longer sell Noël en Alsace, which was a duplicate of Flocon d’Épices (but available in bulk when “Flocon” was only available in an expensive tin). I guess they decided they liked the latter name better.

I am tea obsessed, with the stash to match. I tend to really enjoy green oolongs, Chinese blacks, and flavored teas with high quality bases, especially florals, bergamot-based teas, and chocolate teas.

In my free time I am a birder, baker, and music/movie/tv addict.

Here are my rating categories, FYI:
100-90: Mind-blowingly good, just right for my palate, and teas that just take me to a happy place.
89-86: I really really like these teas and will keep most of them in the permanent collection, but they’re not quite as spectacular as the top category
85-80: Pretty tasty teas that I enjoy well enough, but definitely won’t rebuy when I run out.
79-70: Teas that I would probably drink again, but only if there were no preferrable options.
69-50: Teas that I don’t really enjoy all that much and wouldn’t drink another cup of.
49 and below: Mega yuck. This tea is just disgusting to me.
Unrated: Usually I feel unqualified to rate these teas because they are types of teas that I tend to not like in general. Sometimes user error or tea brewed under poor conditions.
